Circa Survive Signs With Sumerian

Sumerian Records is proud to welcome Circa Survive to its worldwide roster and this partnership kicks off with the deluxe edition of the group's last album, "Violent Waves," coming out September 9th.

This disc was originally released by the band with no record label backing or traditional distribution outlet, yet still debuted at #15 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. The "Violent Waves "re-release will also feature a full-length DVD of the group's sold-out performance from The Shrine in Los Angeles this past December, Check out the DVD trailer below.

Anthony Green (vocals) states: "We are so happy to be a part of the Sumerian family. To be able to have the same creative freedom as we did on our own plus the benefits of having their team helping us spread our music and message is a dream scenario.

Ash Avildsen (Sumerian Records Creator & CEO) further comments: “Today is one of the happiest and fulfilling days of my career and I think I speak for our entire staff when sharing that sentiment. Having Circa Survive join the Sumerian family is a dream come true. Their passion and approach of artistic transcendence as a band is exactly what we continue to strive for with Sumerian as a brand.

“Their progressive, ethereal songwriting that conveys emotion in such a unique way has built them an incredible cult following while always staying true to themselves, which is the definition of musical success in my mind. Sumerian is honored to play a part in their career and vision. We hope to help them achieve even bigger goals while bringing their music to more new ears worldwide.”

More Bands Confirmed For Soundwave Festival 2012

Although it wasn't expected until December, the organizers of Australia's Soundwave Festival have made their second band announcement. Joining the 60 bands already announced are Staind, Wednesday 13, Unearth, Cathedral, Shadows Fall, Heaven Shall Burn, Your Demise, Kittie, and 14 other (mostly non-metal) bands.

Hole has pulled out of the festival after frontwoman Courtney Love refused to play before Limp Bizkit. Soundwave boss AJ Maddah said on Twitter that he was "relieved we got the moody old cow off the bill. [There’s] no point talking her back, only for her to cancel later, or turn up & act like a rotten twat to other artists, fans, etc."

A third announcement in early December will add another five bands to the lineup, and Danzig is one of the confirmed possibilities. More...

Bonnaroo 2010 Stays Irrelevant to Metalheads

Superfly and A.C. Entertainment recently announced that the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival has added several artists to the 2010 event, but I thought I'd highlight the few heavier bands on the line-up:

Clutch
GWAR
Isis
Baroness
Circa Survive
Rise Against
Les Claypool

You really have to be a general music fan to appreciate a festival like Bonnaroo, so diehard metalheads need not bother. The full Bonnaroo 2010 lineup can be found here. The music festival takes place on Thursday, June 10 through June 13.

Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Phish, Jack Johnson and other top artists are donating their music to encourage Americans to speak out on climate change. Organized by the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, HeadCount and the NRDC Action Fund, this collaboration marks the first time free music has been used to prompt Americans to contact their elected officials.

Best of Bonnaroo, a compilation of 17 different live performances from the festival (unfortunately none of the heavier ones), is available for free at www.Musicforaction.org.

Vans Warped Tour 2007 Line Up and Tour Dates

When an event has been around for 13 years, it's usually time to shake things up. And while Ozzfest chose to do that by going free, the Vans Warped tour opted to piece together one of its most diverse rosters to date. While not a metal tour, it does feature a hand full of heavier metalcore and screamo bands, most notably Norma Jean, As I Lay Dying, Funeral For A Friend, Haste The Day, Parkway Drive, and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster.

The tour, which will kick off June 28 at Chula Vista, California's Coors Amphitheater, is currently slated to play 45 shows through an August 25 date in Los Angeles with a lineup that includes Coheed and Cambria, Bad Religion, New Found Glory, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Cute Is What We Aim For, Bayside and Canadian rapper K-os.

Among the other groups that will be on the road with Warped all summer are Amber Pacific, Circa Survive, Tiger Army, Escape the Fate, Hot Rod Circuit, Big D and the Kids Table, Paramore, Gallows, the Matches, the Fabulous Rudies, Meg and Dia, All Time Low, Bleed the Dream, the Unseen, Spill Canvas, Evaline, Bless the Fall, Boys Like Girls, My American Heart, Vincent Black Shadow, Throw the Fight and Pepper.

Tour founder Kevin Lyman said he had plenty of options to choose from when putting together the roster. "We received over 4,000 submissions, so in booking the tour this year I felt that a diverse lineup was in order," he said in a press release announcing the dates. "The tour has always been a place to explore and discover new music. This year's lineup has old school, emo, punk, screamo, hip-hop, more ska than you have seen in a long time and everything in between. If you're open-minded, this will be a great show."

Members of the online Warped community will get their annual shot at Internet presale tickets starting April 1, where they'll be offered a ticket and a copy of the Warped Tour double-disc compilation for $19.99.

Among the other acts scheduled to play select dates are: A Static Lullaby, the Actual, Agent Orange, Alesana, Alkaline Trio, the Almost, Anberlin, As Cities Burn, As I Lay Dying, the Automatic, Biffy Clyro, the Briefs, the Briggs, Buck O Nine, Cinematic Sunrise, the Confession, the Dear and Departed, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Envy on the Coast, the Fall of Troy, Family Force 5, Fishbone, Flogging Molly, the Fold, Funeral for a Friend, the Graduate, Haste the Day, Hawthorne Heights, Human Abstract, I Am Ghost, Madina Lake, Mayday Parade, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, New Year's Day, Norma Jean, Parkway Drive, Pennywise, Pistolita, Play Radio Play, POS, Poison the Well, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Set Your Goals, So They Say, the Starting Line, Straylight Run, Supernova, the Toasters, Underoath, the Used, Valencia, The Vandals and Yellowcard.

More bands and dates are expected to be added in coming months.

Circa Survive Prepares To Record New Album

Circa Survive will head to Baltimore, MD next month to begin recording a new album for Equal Vision Records. The effort will be produced by Brian McTernan (Cave In, Bane) at his Salad Days Studios and will hit stores in Spring 2007. Here's the latest from the band:

"We have about a month left before we start recording our album in Baltimore with our homeboy Brian Mcternan. Excitement really isn't the word. Right now there is a dry erase board hanging in our living room with the list of songs we are preparing for the studio. It's gonna be a task trying to cut songs. As of right now we have twice as many songs as we should for an album. In the film 'True romance,' the main character Clarence is talking about his gun and says 'I've learned it's better to have one and not need it than to need one and not have it.' I suppose that's the same with all these extra songs. Except for way less blood. Word."

Circa Survive Writing New Material

Circa Survive have sent us a progress update as they work on their next full length and follow up to 2005's Juturna. The band had this to say:

"For the next month or so we will be wrapping up the writing process that we started a few months back. At this point there is so much new material that it'd be silly to try and describe an overall sound or something like that. We are, however, extremely enthusiastic. Right now we have no idea if any of the new songs that we've played on tour, Fuse, etc; will make it to the new record... So don't ask!"

"This is a good thing and you should see it as such. Over the next couple months we will attempt to give you little windows into our writing and recording processes through [our various websites]."

The band has also confirmed that they will be recording with producer Brian Mcternan at his Salad Days Studios in Baltimore, MD.

FASSW Back From Canadian Tour, Work On New Album

From a Second Story Window have just returned from their Canadian tour and have issued an update:

"Back from tour in lovely Canada. We had no problems at the border, except having to pay some extra cash thanks to one of us having a shady past. Whatever. We also got fucked completely by the kid in Oshawa who was supposed to do that show, but decided to cancel on us. Apparently there might have been a show that day in Oshawa? If there was, please know we had no idea that it was still going on and we haven't been paid for the show at all. The kid won't pick up his phone. Typical. Also, the manager for MAE wouldn't let us play the Circa Survive show in Toronto, so we deeply apologize to anyone who came to that show and expected to see us rock out in true emo fashion! We were taken off the bill the night before the show. I think it's really shitty of Mae's tour manager to do that to us, but we hold no hard feelings against the band. Other than this, the tour was fucking amazing and we can not wait to hit up Canada again in the future! A huuuuge special thanks to MARIE in Ottawa for helping us with all our paperwork and being a wonderful host and partying with us two nights in a row! You rule and we had tons of fun hanging with you and Martin and everyone else. People in Canada seem to just be so laid back and different than what we are like here in the United States. We were really impressed by everyone's kind attitude. Also, a special thank you to Johnny O.C. and the boys in Ion Dissonance. You guys get more sick every time we play with you and I truly feel like you are real brothers to us. We will always be friends in this world and the next. Thank you. And um....Beneath the Massacre tore everyone up in Ottawa. Those guys just recovered from a terrible van accident and if you get a chance, check them out and give them your support. They were nice guys. So now what, well... back to the grind for us. We are continuing to work on the new album and have about two more songs to go with principle guitar work before we really dig in and put all the finishing touches on the album. We also are actually playing a show NEAR HOME IN AKRON OHIO ON NOVEMBER 4TH!!!! I hope all the Cleveland kids and AKRON crews come rock out with us that night! I can't wait. In the meantime, email us and let us know how things are in your world... we miss you all. Much love and respect, fassw."

From a Second Story Window has a few tour dates coming up still:

11/04 Akron, OH The Orange Street w/ Skies Bleed Black and Bend the Sky
11/19 Poughkeepsie, NY The Chance w/ Converge, THE RED CHORD, Shai Hulud and many more!
11/20 Queens, NY Redzone Martyr Festival w/ Ion Dissonance and many more
