Lord Almighty To Play Shadow Woods Metal Fest
Maryland's open air metal camping party Shadow Woods Metal Fest today announces that Boston black metallers Lord Almighty will join the lineup this fall. Other newcomers to the fest include Germany's sludge masters Mantar, North Dakota's eerie Ghost Bath, Canada's frosty Numenorean, and New Jersey's Iberian folk-metalists Windfaerer.
The three-day event continues through the morning of Sunday, September 18th at Camp Hidden Valley, in White Hall, Maryland, about thirty miles north of Baltimore. Now in its second year, Shadow Woods Metal Fest strives to showcase the best in underground metal from diverse subgenres.
"Lord Almighty has a raw, fresh approach to black metal," says festival organizer Mary Spiro. "They display both aggression and beauty when they perform, and we are super stoked to have them!" Lord Almighty replaces Chicago's Empyreus on Saturday night.
Friday night headliners include Brooklyn's post black metal pillagers Tombs, Mongolian folk metal warriors Tengger Cavalry, Detroit's horror-death conjurers Acid Witch, and a special reunion performance from Philly's blackened doom two-piece Sadgiqacea. Saturday headliners include black-thrash alchemists Blood Storm, Pennsylvania death metal stalwarts Sadistic Vision, Maryland's doom metal godfather Scott "Wino" Weinrich with friends from Faith In Jane, and Long Island ritualists Teloch Vovin. The fest will close with the return of Maine's black metal-blues shredders Zud. More...

Shadow Woods Metal Fest Announces Lineup
Shadow Woods Metal Fest, the Mid-Atlantic's open air camping metal party, will once again terrorize the woodlands of central Maryland this fall with three days of more than thirty bands from diverse metal genres and regions.
The 2016 festival runs from Thursday, September 15th through Sunday, September 18th at Camp Hidden Valley in White Hall, Maryland.
"The response from performers and attendees to the 2015 event was overwhelmingly positive with many people telling me it was the best weekend of their lives!" says festival founder Mary Spiro of Metallomusikum.com/Shadow Woods Productions LLC. "We are humbled and frankly completely surprised by the outpouring of praise for the fest. There has been enormous interest from the metal community for certain bands to perform. Our team is taking its time to make sure the lineup matches our attendee's expectations and sets us apart from other fests. We also want each day to have flow. It's a balancing act."
Spiro says that when all is said and done, the final lineup will surpass the ferocity of the inaugural installment. As of February 9th, twenty-one bands have been announced, with more still in the works.
"It could be late Spring before we have the whole lineup in hand," Spiro said. "It's taking longer than we anticipated, but we think our patience will be rewarded, and festival goers will be really pleased with the bands yet to be announced." More...
Wizard Eye Streaming "Stoneburner"
"I don't think anyone ever sets out to write a nine-minute song, but this one just blossomed naturally into its final, lengthy form as we indulged our desire to explore some of the places the riff wanted to go," begins Wizard Eye vocalist/guitarist Erik Caplan of the band's latest single, the fittingly titled "Stoneburner."
The girthy tune comes by way of the Philadelphia-based psychedelic doom trio's impending new self-titled long player, set for release via Black Monk Records next week. Listen in below.
Caplan elaborates further, "The trippy outro section came as a way to tag the end of the song with a contrasting feeling. The rest of the tune is very structured and stompy, so the idea of a loose, free, psychedelic freak-out at the end felt like a release. This song's lyrical inspiration came from a documentary about the Ulfberht swords found in Europe and Norway. The idea that these weapons were feared on sight spurred thoughts about what it might be like to be the most bad ass sword known to man.
"While Freud would most likely have a field day analyzing the phallocentric, immature nature of this concept, I felt obliged to write those lyrics because I am essentially an overgrown teenager, and my band mates enable and encourage this sort of behavior. Consequently, this song gave me an excuse to say things like, 'More edge/Alive/Have arms/Will thrive/Keen slice/Unreal/Caress/Of Steel,' which was just too tempting to ignore." More...
