Stearica Posts Full Album Online
"Fertile," the second album from dynamic Italian trio Stearica, is now just a week from its release through UK-based Monotreme Records.
The album is now playing in its glorious entirety. Listen to the full release below, courtesy of Burning Ambulance. The following press release was also issued:
"Stearica's intense sophomore album, 'Fertile,' was heavily inspired by the Arab Spring and uprising of Barcelona's Indignants, arising against their governing bodies in search of true freedom. Taking the band's generally instrumental soundscape movements to entirely new levels of creativity, Fertile incorporates several new approaches for the band through life-affirming experiments with instrumentation as well as atypical vocal passages, with guest contributions from Colin Stetson (Tom Waits, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver) and Scott McCloud (Girls Against Boys) and Ryan Patterson (Coliseum).
"Set to arise alongside new life during this Spring season, 'Fertile' marks not only fresh expansion for Stearica as a unit, the album is meant to inspire new growth in the hearts and minds of all free-thinking individuals, with a positive vibe meant to bring forth organic and revolutionary change for the betterment of all beings who inhabit this breathing surface we all reside upon."

Stearica Streams "Nur"
As Italy's Stearica sets the final details of the "Fertile" LP in place for release via Monotreme Records mid-month, Revolver Magazine is hosting a premiere of the album's "Nur" anthem, which boasts a rare bout of vocals for the instrumental trio, courtesy of Ryan Patterson, of Coliseum. Listen in below.
Stearica's intense sophomore album, "Fertile," features guest contributions from Colin Stetson (Tom Waits, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver) and Scott McCloud (Girls Against Boys) in addition to Coliseum's Ryan Patterson.
Issues Patterson on the convergence with the band: "In December 2007, Coliseum was added last minute to a bill in the small French town of Lille that included Stearica and Toronto's Lullaby Arkestra, the kind of beautifully diverse bill that happens too infrequently. Over a meal before the show, we all met and shared stories, a collective connection of bands who travel the world. We were welcomed with open arms.
"The thing I recall most about the evening was a genuine sense of camaraderie and sincere kindness from the folks in Stearica. We played our sets that night, all vastly different but with the connective tissue of sincerity and passion. These brief moments and memories stick with us. Years later, I was invited to lend my voice to a new Stearica song and gladly accepted. To take part in making music together, across oceans and many years after our first meeting, brings these memories back and rekindles friendships. I was an honor to be a part of Stearica's music." Stearica Releasing "Fertile" Album
UK-based Monotreme Records confirms the upcoming release of "Fertile," the second LP from Turin, Italy-based instrumental trio Stearica.
The Obelisk today reveals the first listen to "Fertile," hosting a stream of the LP's second track, "Halite." Give it a listen below.
"Fertile" will be released in Europe on April 13th and in North America April 14th, on CD and digital download formats, as well as a deluxe 180-gram 2xLP double gatefold edition. Monotreme Records comments:
"A powerful, adventurous recording, inspired by the squares of the Arab Spring and Barcelona's Indignants, Fertile, will be released in the early days of Spring; the season of renewal and fertility in many parts of the world including the region historically known as The Fertile Crescent, the birthplace of some of the earliest human civilizations, and also the scene of the revolutionary political uprisings that swept across the Middle East in 2011 known as the Arab Spring."
"Upon arriving in Barcelona to perform at Primavera Sound during the 2011 Indignants protests was the spark that ignited the inspiration for this record, and the Arab Spring revolutions unfolding across the Middle East as we wrote the album further fuelled our inspiration," issues the band's Francesco Carlucci.
