Coalesce Issues Band Update

Coalesce has posted the following update online;

"Hey, quick update on what’s going in over here in the coalesce circle…

"1. Our new years show with Mac lethal and other Kc acts was a total blast. We feel recharged and ready to start stabbing our guitars, drums, and so on and so forth at something new this year. thanks KC, it was real fun. Loved watching all your drunk fights late at night too. Especially the guy who got pummeled by 3 fat chicks. word.

"2. Looks like the BBC sessions got sidetracked by lots of paperwork and legal garbage which is too bad, because that was us at one of our finest moments. But, the reprint of Give Them Rope on Cd and vinyl is moving forward under the Relapse banner and Ingram is hard at work getting all the pieces together. The original masters from 1996 were thought lost forever until he found them in a box with some Star Wars toys.

"So, lucky you, we’re going to do our best to Un-George-lucas-ify Give them rope by having the cd come with 2 discs, the 1996 version on disc 1, and the 2002 version on disc 2, and absolutely NO FUCKING SPECIAL FEATURES. Just both versions of the record so you can play the one that gives you the most street cred with your friends, and toss the other. We promise not to make a big hooplah about it, we just want that record to stay in print so that it doesn’t get lost on a real format forever. ie: your blog is not a real format asshole, neither is a media fire link (that’s broken too by the way. get it fixed).

"So in short, there’s gas in the tank, and we are feeling inspired. Deal with it."

More Coalesce DVD Details Revealed

Coalesce has nearly completed work on their upcoming DVD release, which will most likely be available in September. Here's an update from the band:

"The Coalesce archival DVD release is upon us. The covers are coming in soon, and the DVD slips have been hand cut and hand embossed by Sean and his daughters. In short we are pretty excited about this very hand made project. The packaging is a silkscreened digipack that is 1/2" thick, and all 4 discs, insert, and sticker slide into. Some of the audio on some of the shows is not ideal, but we are talking about footage from 1995. None of the shows are edited, it's full sets, with chapter marks at each new song. Some of the shows are cut short due to batteries dying or whatever, but we are hard at work at digging up more old footage for future archival. If anyone has anything not on this list, please get in touch with us! The price for this package is going to be $25.00 at our shows, and it may show up at mom and pop stores in October."

Here are the DVD contents: More...

Coalesce Confirms Tour, New Release

As has been rumored, Coalesce will indeed be touring in August. Additionally, the group has also announced plans to release a new 7", titled "Salt and Passage," on September 11th. The current line-up of the band is: Jes Steineger, Nathan Richardson, Nathan Ellis, and Sean Ingram.

Regarding, their intentions, etc., the group comments: "Instead of looking at Coalesce as a second career or some ego-stroking project to prove something within modern music, it is being held closely and personally by the members as their time to put aside familial duties, work, school, or whatnot, and simply 'do it.' In short, we just want to hang out together again and play our shows out of a peculiar love for doing so (in all it's ugly purity)... Please let us make it very clear that this is not a 'reunion' tour in any way shape or form. Since it's simply the nature of coalesce to come and go as it pleases, terms like 'reunion' make no sense when applied to it."

The upcoming tour will feature support from Daughters, See You Next Tuesday (on the East Coast), and This Is My Condition (in the Midwest). Here are the tour dates:

8/15 Worcester, MA @ The Palladium
8/16 Philadelphia, PA @ First Unitarian Church
8/17 New York, NY @ Knitting Factory
8/18 Baltimore, MD @ Ottobar
8/19 Richmond, VA @ Alley Katz
8/20 Pittsburgh, PA @ Lawrenceville Moose
8/21 Detroit, MI @ Magic Stick
8/22 Chicago, IL @ TBA
8/23 Iowa City, IA @ Picador
8/24 Omaha, NE @ Sokol Underground
8/25 Lawrence, KS @ Bottleneck

Coalesce Record Two More Songs For Final Release

Coalesce was in the studio last week recording two songs they wrote last summer. The tracks will appear on a final book/7"/DVD release from the group, likely to be available through Second Nature Recordings later this year. A brief clip from one of the songs can be heard here. Frontman Sean Ingram has released the following update:

"On Dec 28th and 29th Coalesce was in action at Black Lodge Studios. Back during the Hellfest fiasco, We ended up writing a couple of songs. We were thinking of either just doing Coalesce again, or starting under a new name due to a couple things... one being how demanding anything with the name "Coalesce" would be due to our torrid history, and two, I have nothing lyrically to add to any Coalesce project. My anger and angst, and hatred and whatever else I drew from to make those songs, it's completely tapped out and no where to be found. We decided we were too old and busy to do either, but the 2 songs were written. We almost let them disappear until we realized that our DVD footage is terrible at best, and the one thing we really wanted to send this band off with, was a completely old school 7" release complete with a book of pictures, stories, tab, whatever, all of it. So that is what we have planned, and have been working on. So in short, we are making a book/7"/DVD as the last thing for Coalesce and want to put it out ourselves with some help from our best friend Dan Second Nature we hope. It's been a blast to say the least. Not only have 2 of the coolest Coalesce songs come out of this, but we've all rebuilt our friendships, and that's the absolutely best thing about all of this.

"For the songs, we settled on 2, and putting as much coalesce weirdness into each as possible. The first song starts out with a very punk or even NIN drum beat, and then stays upbeat for most of the song. It goes into an annoying screeching part, and Jes even pulled out Ed's electric sitar for that. The second song is a little more traditional Coalesce and has one of the best breakdown finales I think I have ever heard.

"The Instrumental tracks are all done, and I get to go back in to work with Ed on Feb. 20th to lay down all vocals and then go to final mix. I completely need the time because the band rewrote one of the songs from scratch the night before they recorded, and as Nate says, “I need a road map to find my way around this song." Below is a little few second clip to get a taste of what's to come. I'm very excited. I only hope my final lyrics ever for this project do justice to the creativity and talent Jes and the Nates put into these songs."

Coalesce Guitarist Forms New Project

Jes Steineger, former guitarist of Coalesce, has reportedly started a new project titled ~. Officially speaking, the project aims "to marry much of the coalesce sound to a late eighties-early nineties industrial sound, all under the pretext of a philosophical investigation into the role of negation in autobiography, the event of estrangement, and the lack of being of both evil and transcendence" (whatever that means). Steineger hopes to release a new full-length by late-Summer 2007.

Coalesce To Reunite Under New Name?

Reports indicate that Coalesce will once again be reuniting. During their show last night in Philadelphia, the band indicated that they have been writing new material and were anxious to get their new drummer (Nathan "Junior" Richardson) acclimated. The group will not, however, be called Coalesce. No additional details have been disclosed, but we'll keep you posted.
