Background

Swallow The Sun was brought to light back in 2000 when guitarist Juha Raivio asked his fellow band mate Pasi Pasanen to try out some songs that didn’t fit their current band’s ( Plutonium Orange) melodic rock style. They rehearsed a couple of songs together and decided to find more members and turn this venture into a band. The following year M. Jämsen joined as a second guitarist and M. Kotamäki from the black metal band Funeris Nocturnum as a vocalist. Soon after that another two members of Funeris Nocturnum came along- A. Munter on keyboards and M. Honkonen on bass.

In early 2003 Swallow The Sun recorded and self- released the demo “Out of This Gloomy Light”. As a result the band landed a record deal with Firebox Records and in July went back to the studio to record their debut album “The Morning Never Came”, which was released the same year and harvested a huge success within the underground community.

Their second album is due out in September 2005 through Firebox and Olympic Records.

"Due to the fact that we are not real festival lovers or great fans of flying, the chances of us ever coming to the States for a one-off show was always very small. But after years of relentless emails from Ryan we've finally given in. It's hard to believe that it's been 14 years since we last played in the US, so we are very happy to announce that we are finally coming back. Bolt Thrower will be playing Maryland Deathfest VII, on May 22-24, 2009, at Sonar, Baltimore, MD."

A few more bands were exected to be included in this announcement, but the organizers are still working on the details. Therefore, another announcement is expected with even more band confirmations in the near future, as they wrap up the booking process for Maryland Deathfest 2009

Swallow The Sun Reveal New Album Title

Finnish doom metallers SWALLOW THE SUN have issued the following update:

"First of all, we want to thank everyone for making year 2007 such an amazing year for SWALLOW THE SUN. We played almost 100 gigs supporting the album Hope, including two European tours, our first North American tour and a mini-tour in Spain and Portugal. We had an honour to play huge festivals outside Finland, such as Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze, With Full Force and Metal Heart Festival. We also shot two videos, for 'Don't Fall Asleep' and 'Doomed To Walk The Earth'."

"'Hope' got some good positions in yearly readers' and critics' polls, including the third position in Best Metal Album series in Soundi magazine critics' poll. We were voted also in many other music magazine's readers' polls for the best band and album of 2007, with the charts consisting mainly of mainstream artists in Finland. We won the 'Mättöfemma' category in Femmagaala awards in Finland." More...

KATAKLYSM has recruited producer Jason Suecof (CHIMAIRA, TRIVIUM, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER) to mix the band's new album beginning in early February. "Prevail" will feature several guest appearances to be announced at a later date. The album is scheduled for a late spring/early summer release via Nuclear Blast Records.

KATAKLYSM recently decided to "immortalize" the character that was featured on the cover of their most recent album, "In the Arms of Devastation", and have him re-appear as the main character — dubbed "The Heartbeast" — on their next offering, "Prevail".

Commented vocalist Maurizio Iacono: "We had so [much] killer feedback on the artwork but especially on the character that we decided to keep him as the band's fifth band member... kinda like IRON MAIDEN did with 'Eddie.' We have the perfect concept for the next album art... it will be bad-ass!"
