Gruesome Streaming Self-Titled Song

Channeling inspiration from one of death metal's most revered, founding American acts - the almighty Death - into its own mangled interpretations, Gruesome's impending "Savage Land" debut is a delightfully horrid slab of late-'80s/early-'90s Florida-styled death metal created in homage to the late Chuck Schuldiner's early masterworks.

Uniting members of Exhumed, Possessed, Malevolent Creation, Derketa and more, with "Savage Land," the collective is humbly determined to keep the sound and spirit of Death alive as sincerely and authentically as possible.

As a precursor to Savage Land's official release next month via Relapse Records, today Noisey offers up namesake track "Gruesome" for communal enjoyment.

Elaborates guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey, "Okay, full confession: I always wanted to be in a band that had an eponymous song, like Iron Maiden or Angel Witch. It's the kind of thing you really need to do on your first album, though. With 'Gruesome,' I felt like it was the right thing to do. It's almost like a mission statement, and since, 'sounds exactly like '87-'91 Death' doesn't really roll off the tongue, I figured 'Gruesome' would work.

"It was one of the last songs we wrote for the album and it's definitely one of my favorites. The lyrics are kind of a Cliff's Notes on Scream Bloody Gore, from the burning bodies of 'Infernal Death' in the first verse to the zombie army of SBG's title track in the last one. Anyway, I think it's one of the better tunes we came up with and I hope you agree." More...

Gruesome Streaming New Album's Title Track

While Relapse Records puts the final grisly details in place for the release of "Savage Land," the debut album from Death-inspired metal collective, Gruesome, No Clean Singing has unleashed the opening title track to the disc. Listen in below.

Channeling inspiration from one of death metal's iconic, founding American acts, Death, into its own mangled interpretation, Gruesome's "Savage Land" is a truly horrid slab of late-'80s/early-'90s Florida-styled death metal created in homage to the late Chuck Schuldiner.

Notes drummer Gus Rios: "What was to become 'Savage Land' started out as a kind of funny sounding guitar pro demo, complete with midi drums. [guitarist/vocalist] Matt [Harvey] had already sent me his first demo song, but this was the track that sent me into a renewed sense of excitement for playing metal! It sounded like a lost Death demo from '88-'89! I knew right then and there that I would see this project through to completion. Most people have already heard the demo version, so this album track will really showcase the upgraded production value of the full length."

Relapse Records will issue "Savage Land" on CD and all digital outlets in North America on April 21st. More...

Gruesome Posts "Hideous" Track

"Savage Land" is the forthcoming debut full-length from death metal perpetrators Gruesome.
Featuring within its bestial ranks members of Exhumed, Possessed, Malevolent Creation and Derketa, Gruesome is a supergroup of sorts paying homage to the game-changing sounds of Death's early recordings.

Gruesome was borne out of guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey (Exhumed) and drummer Gus Rios' (Malevolent Creation) mutual involvement with the Death To All tours. The result is the eight scathing tracks contained on "Savage Land."

Set for release next month, today team Gruesome offers up fourth track "Hideous" for communal absorption. The track is based on 1932 horror film, "Freaks," in which the characters were played by people who worked as carnival sideshow performers and had real deformities. The original version was considered too shocking to be released, and no longer exists.

Rios further elaborates, "'Hideous' was one of the last songs to be written for the album. By that point Matt had really hit a stride with the writing and this song turned out to be one of our favorites! It seamlessly blends influences from the first three Death albums with even a tiny tip of the hat to Human. Listen closely after the solo section...you'll swear it's 1988 for real! We sincerely hope that everyone enjoys this as much as we did creating it! Hail Chuck [Schuldiner]!" More...

Gruesome Posts New Album Trailer

Gruesome is a debilitating death metal faction featuring members of Exhumed, Possessed, Malevolent Creation, and Derketa.

The collective was borne out of guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey (Exhumed) and drummer Gus Rios' (Malevolent Creation) mutual involvement with the Death To All tours -- Harvey serving as front man for the original nine-member mini-tour and Rios performing "Baptized In Blood" and working with DTA drummer Sean Reinert on the following U.S. tour, where Exhumed filled in as support on a several dates.

The pair stayed in touch and discussed their mutual love (obsession?) for the early half of Death's catalog. After deliberating and ultimately discarding the idea of putting together another incarnation of DTA to focus exclusively on the first two albums, Harvey half-jokingly suggested writing their own songs in that vein. It wasn't long before the idea gained traction, and the "band" had five songs written.

With Harvey composing in California, Rios recruited Possessed guitarist Daniel Gonzalez and Derketa bassist Robin Mazen to record the material in Florida, while Harvey tracked his vocals on the West Coast. The result is eight-track debut "Savage Land," a truly gruesome slab of late-'80s/early-'90s Florida-styled death metal.

Elaborates Harvey, "We had such a blast writing and recording this album, I just hope people enjoy it half as much as I enjoyed doing it. It was a great experience working with my friends in Florida and getting to write and record my take on the Death sound. I'm beyond happy with the way everything came out and I hope people take it as the loving, respectful piece of work that it is. More...
