Christopher Lee Passes Away At 93
According to reports from U.K. publications The Guardian and The Telegraph, famed actor, singer and heavy metal star Christopher Lee has died at the age of 93 after being hospitalized for respiratory problems and heart failure. Apparently, Lee's death occurred days ago, but his wife wished to inform family and close friends before public disclosure.
Lee, best known for roles as Dracula and Saruman in Lord of the Rings, also broke into the world of heavy metal with his solo album (future releases under the Charlemagne moniker) "Sings Devils, Rogues & Other Villains (From Broadway to Bayreuth and Beyond)" in 1998, and followed up with three more full length albums, culminating with the EP "Metal Knight" and the Christmas single "Darkest Carols, Faithful Sing" in 2014. Lee also appeared as narrator and vocalist over the course of 7 years with Rhapsody of Fire, beginning with the 2004 EP "The Dark Secret," and most famously his appearance on the track "The Magic of the Wizard's Dream" from the full length album "Symphony of Enchanted Lands II - The Dark Secret." Christopher Lee Releases Christmas Metal Single
After releasing the "Metal Knight" EP earlier this year, 92 year old actor Christopher Lee (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, The Wicker Man) has a three-track Christmas single out now titled "Darkest Carols, Faithful Sing," which can be picked up at iTunes here.
In addition to traditional Christmas tunes, the single includes a few twists on the lyrics you know, like "thrashing as we go, in a hearse that knows the way, to hell we go, crying all the way..." Check out a teaser trailer below.
Christopher Lee Releasing New Metal EP
Hollywood legend Christopher Lee, who will turn 92 on Tuesday May 27th, is releasing next week a mini album appropriately called "Metal Knight."
Sir Christopher is well-known for his devotion to fantasy and heavy metal themes, with several album releases and collaborations in the genre to his name. “I associate heavy metal with fantasy because of the tremendous power that the music delivers," he says.
The star of The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars sagas inspired generations of artists with his dark yet elegant portrayals, with his interpretation of Dracula considered by many to be the quintessential, while The Wicker Man has inspired many a metal song.
"Metal Knight" is a mini album featuring 7 tracks, two of which are covers from the "Man of La Mancha" musical, based on the character Don Quixote. Due out May 26th, the "Metal Knight" track listing is as follows:
