Gospel Of The Witches Releases New Video

Prepare to take a journey into the ancient rites of incarnation with the new music video for "The Ascent" from Karyn Crisis' Gospel Of The Witches.

This track is taken from the "Salem's Wounds" album, which features occult metal soundscapes that seamlessly soar from evil heaviness to ambient romanticism through soul provoking passages of light and darkness.

Karyn Crisis comments: "'The Ascent' is about the transformative ancient rite of death and resurrection. It also alludes to the wisdom attained through attuning to the nature of energies which often appear to us as illusions of opposites. To be incarnated again we must first go through the death transition; we must enter the darkness to find the light; to hear the voice of the Universe we must go within, turning attention away from the physical world. Opposites are merely halves of a whole: masculine and feminine energies, the macrocosm and the microcosm, life and death. More...

Karyn Crisis Contributing To Charity Anthology

Karyn Crisis (Crisis, Ephel Duath, Gospel Of The Witches) will contribute a written piece, entitled "Angels In The Ashes," to The Healing Monsters benefit anthology for Dustin LaValley and Katherine Ludwig.

Metal Maniacs co-founder and former editor, Katherine Ludwig, has been battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and dark fiction writer, screenwriter, and metal/hardcore enthusiast Dustin LaValley has been struggling with Crohn's/IBD issues; all proceeds from The Healing Monsters will be split evenly between LaValley's and Ludwig's respective medical funds.

In regards to her contribution to this collection of metal-horror poetry and prose, Karyn comments:

"When Shawn Macomber asked me to contribute something to Katherine Ludwig's cause, I was honored and thrilled to give something back to a woman who's given so much to the metal music community. I consider that each action we take sends out a resonance, so with my piece I made an offering of strength to a woman who already symbolizes that very idea to many other people...

"'Angels In the Ashes' is based around a stanza I wrote when I was 15 years old, as I was ruminating on the limitations of the physical body while I struggled with my own disease. In adulthood, I've perceived that within my greatest personal weakness can be found my deepest strength, simply trying to draw my attention into myself where it lay dormant, awaiting our reunion." Gospel Of The Witches Signs With Century Media

Century Media Records has issued the following announcement about inking a deal with the Karyn Crisis project Gospel Of The Witches:

"Karyn Crisis is a name worthy of more praise and attention. While select circles of people know and appreciate her prior vocals with the critically-acclaimed Crisis from 1993-2006, many are still naive to her influence and impact.

"This demure girl raged harder than many men, slugging it out with impactful live performances at hardcore and metal shows, screaming often times like a demon, other times singing like an angel. She led the way and has become an influence for female-fronted extreme bands. And then she disappeared. In the interim she made a name for herself as an artisan via her paintings and leatherwork, and now she's returned with a stellar new project, Karyn Crisis' Gospel Of The Witches, and a fabulous new album to be released next year through Century Media Records."

Karyn comments: "This band began 5 years ago in Tuscany, Italy, as an alchemical journey between Davide Tiso (Ephel Duath) and myself as we searched for a way to musically honor the Witches who came before me and who have been guiding me in Spirit, teaching me their Ancient Ways."

The album was financed by fans via websites like Kickstarter and Etsy; then Karyn together with Davide Tiso, Ross Dolan (Immolation), Mike Hill (Tombs) and Charlie Schmid (Vaura) recorded the 13 songs at The Basement Recordings in North Carolina with producer Jamie King.

Upon completion of the album, Karyn began shopping the album and reconnected with Century Media President Marco Barbieri, who had signed Crisis back in 1993 when he worked at Metal Blade Records. More...

Karyn Crisis Reveals Details On New Album

Vocalist and visual artist Karyn Crisis today reveals further details of her newest musical project, Gospel of the Witches.

Gospel of the Witches features Karyn Crisis' vocals and mystical lyrics, over music composed by Ephel Duath mastermind Davide Tiso. With Tiso playing all guitars and bass, the lineup is completed by Danny Walker of Intronaut on drums, and Ross Dolan of Immolation on vocals. In addition to the core lineup, the album will contain a guest appearance by Mike Hill, frontman of Tombs.

A 13-song album is currently in the pre-production stages. Tracking begins in June with producer Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me) at The Basement Recording NC.

Karyn Crisis speaks about Gospel of the Witches: "The album is a bold statement and an epic, unabashedly emotional work of devotion to the ultimate expression of the power of the fires of transformation: The Witch. Davide has a haunting ability to generate undeniably emotional landscapes with his guitar, and these songs twist and turn into darkness and then transmute into heartbreaking beauty and light. As a testament to Ancient Ways and the union of opposites, I explore the feminine power in my voice on this album and couple it with Ross' intensely masculine vocal power to create a consistent theme of thickly layered vocal choruses. Danny will round out these 13 dark mantras with thunderous drums. Take the tendrils of my unstoppable voice into the Great Mysteries... or run for the hills."

A Kickstarter page has been set up to raise money for the recording, mixing, mastering, and manufacturing costs. Check it out and see all the available rewards for contributing at this location.

Lately, after a bursting phase of musical inspiration that lasted a few months the 13 songs that we are about to record were nailed. Today it is with great excitement that we reveal to you some details about this very special piece of work.
