Defeater Signs With Epitaph
Boston-based melodic hardcore band Defeater has signed to Epitaph with plans to release a new album in 2015. After a full year of being off the road, Defeater also announced dates for a U.S. headlining tour this Spring.
Front man Derek Archambault performed shows for two years with a cane, but now, fully recovered from a 2014 hip replacement surgery, he is ready to perform again.
“After a year away from touring and nearly two of immobility, I have never been happier to push forward with Defeater,” said Archambault. “Releasing a new album with a label I have bought records from for more than 20 years still doesn't feel real. Like many of my peers, Epitaph's 90's roster was a big part of the soundtrack to my teenage years. Signing to Epitaph and a full U.S. tour this spring has the makings of a banner year for Defeater.”
Defeater's previous albums include "Travels" (2008), "Lost Ground" (2009), "Empty Days & Sleepless Nights" (2011), and "Letters Home" (2013). All of the band's recordings tell the story of a working class family living in New Jersey during the Post-World War II era. Defeater will release a fourth concept album in 2015 on Epitaph.
“We want to thank everyone for the unbelievable continued support of us this past year and we hope we get a chance to thank you personally in 2015. Let’s do this,” said guitarist Jay Maas. More...

August Burns Red Burns Bright In Tennessee
Metalcore and deathcore have become polarizing genres within the sphere of heavy metal, although the fans of both are just as fervent as the other genres, if not moreso. The lyrical sides of these genres are quickly becoming known for their earnest natures, cutting out the bullshit that several other genres tend to lather themselves up in to define themselves.
Hitting Nashville on the night of November 4th at the wonderfully eccentric Rocketown was a group of bands that take the high road, headlined by August Burns Red and assisted by Blessthefall, Defeater, and Beartooth. It was an unusually early show, with myself and bunches of attendees still in the security line awaiting entry while Beartooth were playing, having started promptly at 6:30.
