Lordi Reveal More "Dark Floors" Details

More information about LORDI's upcoming horror film, "Dark Floors", can be found on the movie's newly launched official web site at this location.

"Dark Floors" will premiere at Oulu Energia Areena on February 6. The home of Kärpät, a Finnish National Hockey League team, will host an audience of 5,000 people who will also see LORDI's show. With its image as the film-friendly town up north, Oulu is the perfect choice for the premiere: "Dark Floors" was shot there last summer.

The Finnish national premiere for the film is Friday, February 8.

Finland's biggest-ever premiere is a co-operation with the Northern Film and Media Foundation POEM and Oulun Kärpät.

Based on an original idea of LORDI frontman Mr. Lordi and director Pete Riski, "Dark Floors" is a classic horror film expected to make it big internationally. The English-language film was made with UK actors. Members of LORDI star as monsters who chase a group of people in a hospital where everyone has died. LORDI's song "Beast Loose in Paradise" can be during the closing credits.

"Dark Floors" is directed by Pete Riski and produced by Markus Selin. The film is written by Pekka Lehtosaari. It all started in an interview where Mr. Lordi said he would like Selin to contact him to discuss his idea for a film.

Solar Films produced the film in cooperation with the Northern Film and Media Foundation POEM and the North Finland Film Commission (NFFC).

Lordi Post Official "Dark Floors" Trailer Online

The official trailer for "Dark Floors" — the feature film starring the Finnish "monster" metal band LORDI — can be viewed below.

The plot summary is as follows: Concerned for her autistic daughter's health, a father sees her removal from the hospital by force as the only option. An elevator breakdown prevents a smooth exit and renders them trapped with others. Yet the incident is only the beginning of a descent into nightmare. As the doors open, the hospital appears mysteriously deserted. When mutilated bodies are found, creatures from a dark world start a frightening attack. It soon becomes clear that the survival of the group may rest solely on the little girl.

"Dark Floors" was shot in Finland at a cost of 4.2 million euros (approximately $6 million), according to Screen Daily.

The film, which features a largely Finnish cast, will premiere in the country on February 8, 2008.

LORDI recently introduced the film at the Cannes Film Festival.

The movie was described by the band's lead singer, Mr. Lordi, as a "traditional modern horror" that will feature monsters and "horrific scenes."

Mr. Lordi (real name: Tomi Putaansuu) added that the band's latex masks and monstrous costumes were derived from horror films so it was "kind of natural" for them to make their own movie. More...

Lordi Reveal Single Details

LORDI's new single, "Beast Loose in Paradise" will be released as a downloadable single via www.zed.fi on Decemebr 24 and as a physical CD on January 9. There will be two edits of the song: "Radio Edit" and the "Dark Floors Version". The "Dark Floors" version will include a longer intro.

"Beast Loose in Paradise" — which is one of two new songs the band recently recorded — will appear in LORDI's upcoming feature film "Dark Floors".
In a recent interview with MonsterDiscoHell.com, the group's mainman Mr. Lordi stated about the new material, "These two songs were composed mainly during the Ozzfest tour. As a matter of fact I remember composing the chorus and the main riff of 'Beast Loose in Paradise' in Milwaukee and the chorus and verses of 'Studs and Leather' in St. Augustine."

He continued, "The origin of the main riff of 'Studs and Leather' goes way back. That one was taken from the unreleased LORDI album 'Bend over and Pray the Lord!' (which was supposed to be released as LORDI's debut album in 1999)! Though the tunes were changed, but the rhythm is still the same. The verse of 'Beast Loose in Paradise' is from another therapy band sessions from last Christmas. And the rest of both of the songs was basically made between the Ozzfest and TYPE O NEGATIVE tours... I think that's the first time some part of a song was made like this in the history of this band. The arrangements are done pretty much while the songs are demoed. The rest while rehearsing the songs and the final decisions in studio when recording."

Asked if there was any truth to recent report in the Finnish music magazine Soundi that the new LORDI songs would be "more brutal and raw" than the material on "The Arockalypse", Mr. Lordi said, "Our music is not gonna get any brutal or heavier, but not any lighter [either], that's for sure! I think it's gonna be pretty much the same. But it's so hard to think and say for myself. You'll be the judges then. I'd say these two songs are familiar LORDI. Although 'Beast Loose in Paradise' is more 'movie-esque' and 'horror-ish' on purpose. And some might say it's even heavier, but at the very least the chorus will be familiar and melodic LORDI stuff. And "Studs and Leather" is basically 'Heaven's on Fire' meets 'Balls To The Wall'. But as I said, it's really hard to describe them myself. And like I've said before, it's pointless to start forming opinions based on what I've said as to what the the next album's gonna be like. These songs were made for the movie and do not necessarily represent the future material in any way."

LORDI recently postponed its previously announced December 14 hometown gig at Lappi Areena in Rovaniemi due to ongoing post-production work on "Dark Floors". Tickets already purchased for the December concert will be valid for the new show. Tickets will also be refundable at the point of purchase.

New Zealand Church Groups Protest Ozzy Performance

Jenny Ling of Stuff.co.nz reports: A crusade is looming as church groups prepare to take on heavy metal heavyweights poised to play in Wellington [New Zealand] over Easter.

Wellington pentecostal church Lifepoint says the lineup of bands — including former bat-biter OZZY OSBOURNE and KISS — are "not appropriate" and will have "negative influences" on the city during the two-day Rock2Wgtn festival on March 22 and 23.

They plan to lobby other church groups and will look at taking their concerns to Wellington City Council.

"It's not appropriate from our angle of things," said pastor Karen Crawshaw.

"I don't think we can force our views on others but at the same time we think it's a very negative influence on our city.

"It'll put a damper on the things the church traditionally focuses on at the Easter season."

The condemnation follows confirmation that another hellish rock act, Finnish heavy metal band LORDI, has been booked to appear at the Wellington event.

The band, whose five members dress in elaborate costumes as monsters and demons, won the Eurovision song contest last year.

Lordi Manager And Bodyguard Shot At, Fan Robbed

According to ESCtoday.com, LORDI's manager and bodyguard were shot at, and a fan was robbed, following the band's performance in Louisville, Kentucky Friday night (October 26).

The events started after the concert when LORDI mainman Mr. Lordi, his wife Johanna and the band's keyboardist Awa had just entered the tour bus. The rest of the group went into a nearby bar for a drink. Their tour manager Rikk Scholvinck and a bodyguard were escorting some of their fans towards the bus when a van appeared next to the bus and four or five teenagers jumped out of it. "One of the men with a gun took a fan, a girl, put the gun to her head and forced her to lie down on the ground," Mr. Lordi said. "Also one of the boys froze on the spot while the others fled away, including Rikk and the bodyguard while another man started shooting at them. Luckily he missed and no one was hurt. Rikk ran to the bar and called the police who arrived soon. In a moment we were surrounded by like five police cars but the guys managed to escape. They were a group of drug addicts that had stolen the car earlier that night, and police were already looking for them but have still not managed to catch them."

Mr. Lordi continued, "The girl that was held at gunpoint is obviously very shocked. We did our best to comfort and calm her down, but one can only wonder what could happen when people start running around with guns and even using them!"

"It is a bit amusing that the boy fan was just happy he didn't lose the t-shirt he was wearing with all the autographs on it, even if they both lost everything else."

The fans involved were given lifetime all access passes to LORDI shows worldwide as compensation.

This was a second time LORDI has had trouble in the USA. During their Ozzfest tour in the summer their tour bus was hijacked. Two of their fans were robbed on that occasion, too. "This was like a deja vú of that, once again we were surrounded by police cars and their flashing lights," Mr. Lordi said.

Lordi Frontman Defends "Free" Ozzfest

LORDI mainman Mr. Lordi recently spoke to Jonathan Cunningham of Broward-Palm Beach, Florida's New Times about the Finnish band's participation in this year's Ozzfest, which has been dubbed "Freefest" due to the fact that concert revelers are able to enjoy the show without having to pay.

"We are not getting paid," Mr. Lordi said. "But there's no income. How can you pay the bands if there aren't any ticket sales? It's pretty simple. This is really a promotion for us. You have to take it like starting from scratch. But we're really lucky bastards. It's not like starting from scratch; we play in front of thousands of people every other day, so it's like starting from third or fourth."

On whether he thought more tours should be free, Mr. Lordi said, "I think that question should be targeted to the audience, to the people who are showing up all summer, not me," he said. "Nobody wants to pay for it, if you give them a choice. And maybe there are people who don't have money for it and now they get a chance to see a great show. But on our side, there's nobody getting paid. It's like charity work in a way. We're getting something back from it by way of promotion. And the fans are getting the bands that they like for free. Nobody loses."

Lordi Guitarist Talks Costumes, Eurovision, Gwar

Maximum Ink magazine recently conducted an interview with LORDI guitarist Amen. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

On winning the Eurovision Song Contest:

"The Eurovision song contest is an annual pop song competition. There are something like 40 contestants, and you perform your song in front of a live audience. At the same time, it is broadcasted to millions of viewers — usually there's over 100 million viewers. It is one of the most-watched non-sporting events in the world, so it's a great opportunity to bring your message to millions of people in only three minutes! People in different countries vote, and the country that gets the most points wins the competition. It is a competition where you usually can't see rock bands, so we were really a 'bizarre vision' in the middle of all those the-less-I-use-clothes-the-more-I-get-votes artists. It's a place no one ever expected to see a band like us, but that's the reason we wanted to participate, because we do things that normal bands don't do."

On how winning the Eurovision contest has changed things for the band:

"We got more reputation and more work. It opened many doors for us. We got a lot of new fans, and because of that we have a chance to play in bigger arenas. During the last year-and-a-half we were really busy, and we have to thank Eurovision for that… But we've already moved on, and our focus is on the future."

On how the idea to wear costumes came about:

"Mr. Lordi got this crazy idea back in early '90s, and all of the mask design comes pretty much from him — other members also take part in design sessions, giving ideas, etc., but Mr. Lordi is the one who makes the masks from sketches to final product . . . There's a different story behind every monster. For me it was kind of obvious to be a mummy, because I have always loved ancient Egypt and its history. It was ten years ago when I jumped in Mr. Lordi's train, and back then we discussed the character of the guitarist. The first idea was some kind of redneck porno Caesar, but nowadays I'm really happy that we thought about it twice!"

On comparisons to GWAR:

"Well, personally, I don't know their music so well, but I think they look cool! It's great to have different kind of bands and music in the world. I hope to meet them one day. I guess they must be distant family members for us..."

Lordi Check In From Ozzfest

The End Records has issued this press release:

Finland's monster Rock N' Roll band LORDI, currently on tour as part of OZZFEST 2007 (w/ headliners Ozzy Osbourne, LAMB OF GOD and STATIC-X), have issued another update about their time on the road in North America.

Says LORDI frontman, Mr. Lordi: "Ozzfest has been absolutely amazing for us, even though the shows have been a 'little' sweaty. We’ve gotten so much encouragement from Ozzy's band and the LAMB OF GOD guys, not to mention from the fans that we’ve been able to meet at the signing sessions, that we ALMOST forget the fact that we’re literally melting during each set. At first we were a bit worried about the fact that we are musically the lightest band on the bill, and that we are basically a pretty unknown band here in the United States, but the fan's reactions have been so overwhelming and so gratifying. There have been quite a lot of people who told us that they came a looooong way to see us at Ozzfest and we couldn’t be more honored."

In other LORDI news, the band have scheduled an in-store autograph appearance at New Jersey's legendary independent record store Vintage Vinyl on Wednesday August 15, 2007 at 7PM.

Vintage Vinyl
51 Lafayette Rd.
Fords, NJ 08863

There will be no live performance at this event.

LORDI plays the following day, Thursday August 16, 2007, at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey as part of Ozzfest 2007. Ozzfest 2007 continues till the end of August.

Lordi Cancel Off Date Shows

Finland's monster rock n roll band LORDI, currently on the mainstage of Ozzfest 2007 (with headliners OZZY OSBOURNE, LAMB OF GOD and STATIC-X), have cancelled their previously announced off-date shows during the summer tour.

In a written statement from the band it says: “Things have been going exceptionally well for Lordi this summer on Ozzfest 2007. We’ve had some great crowd responses so far and the shows have been a lot of fun. Lots of rock n’ roll and pyro!

And because the shows have been going over so well – the fans really are into what Lordi have brought to the tour - we feel that taking the LORDI show into a smaller club environment won’t deliver the full stage show that we are playing every night as part of Ozzfest so we’ve decided to cancel the previously announced off-date shows in Montreal, Toronto and Chicago. We don't want to downsize the band's explosive show!

We do hope that those who have bought tickets to come to the off-dates will make it out to Ozzfest and see us and all the other great bands playing in front of thousands of fans.”

Ozzfest 2007 continues till the end of August. See full tour dates here. Lordi released their album The Arockalypse March 20th, 2007 in North America on The End Records.

In other news, an interview with Lordi is now appearing on Monsters HD (the first 24/7 commercial-free all horror channel that broadcasts in 1080i high definition) both online and on the network. You can view the interview with Lordi online at www.MonstersHD.com (make sure to maximize the screen on the player located underneath the TV screen) or tune into the Monsters HD channel on the Dish Network or Cablevision. The piece will air throughout the rest of the summer to promote their appearance on Ozzfest.

Ozzfest 2007 VIP Ticket Plan Revealed

It was announced months ago that tickets for this summer's Ozzfest would be free to fans, and that the longest-running heavy metal festival would subsist on corporate sponsorships and little else.

But obtaining those free tickets for one of the dates on this year's run — which kicks off July 12 in Auburn, Washington, and continues through August 30 in West Palm Beach, Florida — might just give some metal fans a migraine.

First, you have to send an e-mail requesting tickets, and then wait for a confirmation e-mail containing a link to the Web site of one of the tour's various sponsors. Next, you have to wait until June 12 before you can enter that code on some other Web site to redeem two tickets to whichever date you'd like to attend. It's a whole rigmarole that some fans — or, more specifically, those willing to drop some serious scratch — can avoid.

That's right, folks — while this summer's Live Nation-sponsored Ozzfest will be free to most, some will fork over upward of $1,000 to get in. As in years past, Ozzfest's organizers will offer fans a number of VIP ticket packages for purchase, which will ensure them a seat for all the headbangin' action.

The festival's "Party Like a Rockstar" package — which includes preferred pavilion seating, access to the second-stage VIP viewing platform behind the mixing boards, access to the general VIP area, a behind-the-scenes tour and a special host "to help you rock harder than you have ever rocked before" — returns this summer, and will set you back $300. There's also the "I'm Part of the Show" package, which costs $666 and includes all the same perks, in addition to a seat on the Ozzfest stage during Osbourne's concert-closing set.

There's also the "Platinum" package, which will be available by auction in the not-so-distant future. The starting bid will be $1,000 and will be limited to only 10 guests per show. This offer includes everything the "I'm Part of the Show" package does, and then some. Fans who win the auction will also get a personal meeting with Osbourne and his band, along with a certificate signed by Sharon Osbourne. The proceeds of these tickets will go to the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

The festival's 12th annual installment boasts a bill including Ozzy Osbourne, 3 Inches Of Blood, Ankla, Behemoth, Chthonic, Circus Diablo, Daath, Hatebreed, In This Moment, Lamb of God, Lordi, Mondo Generator, Nile, Static-X and The Showdown.

The 24-city 12th annual OZZFEST will launch July 12 in Seattle, WA at the White River Amphitheatre. Here are the tour dates: More...
