To/Die/For Calls It Quits

Vocalist Jape of Finnish metallers To/Die/For has issued the following announcement about the band calling it a day:

"My nerves, stress level and Life came to the point that i really need to get some rest, and say goodbye for these Stressful and still nice days with TDF Since 2005 we have been through so many shitty things. We have been unlucky to meet so many shitty promoters etc. FUCK YOU ALL (this is for all of those so called promoters who ruined some of our tours, and are also one of TDF..s killers.) Also i have to thank some promoters, like AYU from Mexico! and of course we met other great and friendly promoters too around the world!but...a few asshole really can kill you!?

"Italy visit a couple of years ago, and U.S tour 2007 really sucked a huge part of my/our energy and motivation. It was a miracle that i continued after U.S tour until these days! Now, one booking agency tried to handle our first South-American tour and also things with this did not work.Local promoters here and there did not pay their part for the main promoters in time etc. They just could not handle things which had to be clear. I am so sad and pissed off this tour did not happen...AGAIN! We are so sorry for our fans there.

"There was only 9 shows totally confirmed for almost five weeks? And many more not that “handled” things. They seemed to be working very hard for us, but still...Again i felt like “we have been through this shit before” Also all these line-up changes always stressed me a lot and made me sad, but still everyone who played with me in TDF were great persons! Every line-up change killed a little part of me...well exept one!

"With our latest line-up we tried to write new songs, and we had some “raw”songs, but there was One big problem! No one seemed to like same kind of songs. Latest album came out in 2006 and after that we had only one new song? And we are not satisfied with it eather. Somethings must be wrong i think!? More...

Urn Enters The Studio to Begin Work on New Album

Chicago-based gothic-metal band URN entered renowned studios of the Chicago Recording Company this past weekend, beginning work on their new upcoming full-length "Scribings of a Forgotten Soul", scheduled for an early 2009 release with Rotting Corpse Records.

The band once again has joined forces with the producer/engineering team of Dan Precision (Rise Against, Naked Raygun) and Connie Bergmann whom they also collaborated with on their successful and critically-acclaimed 2006 release "Dancing with the Demigods."

Singer/Guitarist Dominic St. Charles gave insight on the band's new album which will be a concept album based on a true story of several individuals that were in his life that were directly involved in a prison riot at state correctional facility in a nearby town from where he attended high school.

"Think of it as a 'Law & Order' approach to the story we are telling here. Of course, all of the characters are completely fictitious and do not represent any person living or dead. It was a major event that shook my community at the time and my best friend's father was the night shift supervisor. So a couple of months before it happened he took a group of me and my friends on tour of the prison at 2:30 a.m. (we thought it would be interesting to do). The experience of seeing all that was going on from the inside from many perspectives, the prisoners, the guards, etc., ended up being highly enlightening for me. So when the riot broke out it was hitting very close to home and I had been doing a good bit of writing at the time and decided to chronicle these events. So in essence, that is what this album is about a fictional depiction of this event."

URN also announced that their good friend Jape Peratalo, lead singer for To/Die/For, will be doing a guest vocal for this new album and the band is also in talks with a couple of their other musical friends to possibly lend the talents for guest appearances as well. More on these details will be released upon their confirmation.

In the meantime, check the band out on their MySpace page.

To/Die/For Parts Ways With Drummer

Finnish gothic metal band TO/DIE/FOR has parted ways with its drummer of four years, Santtu Lonka. According to the group, Santtu left TO/DIE/FOR because "he had no motivation for rehearsing... Now when we are writing songs for a new album, we need to live in this 200%. Santtu has lots of other things to do, and it is good for him, but time is what we need and especially motivation and rehearsing. There must be the TO/DIE/FOR flame burning in our souls... otherwise this isn't worth doing."

TO/DIE/FOR has already recruited a replacement drummer in the shape of Toni Paananen. According to the band, "We've rehearsed with [Toni] a couple of times, and believe us, it works as motherfuck!"

TO/DIE/FOR recently spent time at the Sonic Image Studios in Finland recording demos for its next album.

According to the group, the upcoming CD will include a cover song from either THE LORDS OF THE NEW CHURCH or from DURAN DURAN. In addition, the band has just written a new song called "Johnny the Vampire", which is said to be "a parody about a gothic boy."

In a recent interview with Metalraw.com, TO/DIE/FOR singer Jape Peratalo stated about the group's current label situation, "Our contract with Spinefarm expired and maybe there [was a] possibility to continue with them, I do not know. But we decided to start to looking for something new. Spinefarm Records is OK. But it seems like they have no interest or time for band like we are. They have too many bands to handle. That's why we felt like we are not getting enough things like promotion etc. There are some labels who are interested in us, but this time we are not gonna hurry. We need a company who is ready to work for us with huge motivation. At the moment, I am writing new songs for TO/DIE/FOR, also other guys are writing new stuff. We are gonna be alive in the future more than ever!"

So we do are not sure is this gonna be ever released anywhere:) But we just wanted give you some clips to listen before you get bored!..or before you die:) so...just kiss the flames babies!

To/Die/For Discusses Current Label Situation

V. Daniel Valor of Metalraw.com recently conducted an interview with TO/DIE/FOR singer Jape Peratalo. An excerpt from the chat follows:

Metalraw.com: "First of all let's talk about the current situation in TO/DIE/FOR, I know that the band are currently without a contract… what happened with the people of Spinefarm? You did not want to renew with them? It was they who did not want to renew? I ask this, because it’s really strange that a successful band like TO/DIE/FOR is without a record label."

Jape: "Actually our contract with Spinefarm expired and maybe there would be possibility to continue with them, I do not know? But we decided to start to looking for something new! Spinefarm Records is OK! But seems like they have no interest or time for band like we are. They have too many bands to handle. To/Die/For Still On Hiatus

Over the weekend, TO/DIE/FOR vocalist Jarno "Jape" Perätalo issued an update, part of which read, "I think it's time to create the Darkest TDF album."

Apparently many fans took that the wrong way, prompting Jape to issue the following update earlier today: "Some people understood that we are making new album now... no. I mean we are doing new songs and still having a break."

"Here we are in Finland, I got [the] Cubase program [a series of MIDI, music sequencer and digital audio editing computer applications] and I am creating some new music with it."

"We do not know when we will start to rehearse again with TO/DIE/FOR. This 'break' makes me fucking bored. Seems like there is no life without shows and now when it's wintertime, it makes me very depressed so… I think it's time to create the darkest TO/DIE/FOR album..." More...

To/Die/For Needs a Break

Finnish gothic metal band TO/DIE/FOR has posted another message on its MySpace page clarifying its previous statement that "we really do not know what will happen for us then. . . maybe we will release sixth album someday, maybe we don't." The new message reads as follows:

"Now we are back in Finland and I noticed here is a lot of worried people. Calm down, please — we are not gonna kill TO/DIE/FOR. Now we just need a break and we are hunting some inspiration… something new into our little thing called TO/DIE/FOR.

"'Anything can happen' does not mean exactly we are goona stop making music.
But still situation is that we do not know anything about anything… All we know is that we love to make music, we love to travel and make shows…"

TO/DIE/FOR's fifth album, "Wounds Wide Open", was released in Finland in October 2006. The follow-up to 2005's "IV", "Wounds Wide Open" was recorded by Samu Oittinen at Fantom Studios and by Jari-Jukka Nippala at Sonic Image, and was mixed at Sweden's Abyss Studios by Peter Tägtgren (DIMMU BORGIR, CELTIC FROST).

Nuclear Blast earlier in the year reissued TO/DIE/FOR's "All Eternity" (2000) and "Epilogue" (2001) albums as a double-CD package. The cover art can be viewed at this location.
