Cult of Luna Explain New Songs

With the release date of "Eternal Kingdom", the brand new
album from Cult of Luna, guitarist Johannes Persson recently gave a track-by-track explanation of the songs from the upcoming album. To hear Johannes discussing the meanings behind the songs over exclusive clips from the songs themselves, head to http://www.myspace.com/cultoflunaeternalkingdom.

Based on an actual journal found in an old mental home, "Eternal Kingdom" takes listeners on a weird and wonderful journey through the mind of a former patient as he tells the tale of how his wife came to be murdered and of the mythical creatures he claims to have encountered during the time of the harrowing event.

The fifth album from Cult of Luna, "Eternal Kingdom" was recorded at Tonteknik Studios in the band's hometown of Umea and was produced by Magnus Lindberg. "Eternal Kingdom" will be released on June 16th in the UK/Europe and July 8th in the USA.

Cult Of Luna Guitarist Explains Album Artwork

The following press release has been announced:

CULT OF LUNA founder and guitarist Johannes Persson gives fans a major treat as he gives them a taste of what is in store for them on the band's fifth full-length release, "Eternal Kingdom".

"The world of the 'Eternal Kingdom' is harsh and hostile and that was something we felt was needed to express through the music. The turn to a harder and heavier sound was also very welcomed on our side after two albums of exploring atmospheric and meditative music."

The recently released artwork of "Eternal Kingdom" also has a deep connection to the music contained within.

"The artwork is inspired by old woodcuts and it is definitely the right way of maintain and amplify the harshness of the 'Eternal Kingdom'. With the Man/Owl king in the middle, it is a perfect visual representation of how the album is going to sound."

Cult Of Luna's new album "Eternal Kingdon" will be release on June 16th in Europe and July 8th in North America.

Isis Confirmed For Roadburn Festival

Post-metal icons ISIS have been confirmed as the headliner of the Friday Roadburn Festival date — April 18, 2008 — at the 013 Club in Tilburg, The Netherlands.

Currently celebrating their 10th anniversary as a band, the Boston-to-Los Angeles transplants will help fans take part in their milestone anniversary by releasing their entire catalog in one deluxe 12 vinyl-LP box set, and their headlining slot at Roadburn 2008.

Throughout the years, ISIS have maintained their position in the vanguard of post-metal by consistently exploding the idiomatic strictures that have defined heavy music with each successive release. Roadburn reveres ISIS and feel they warrant discussion alongside such established pioneers as NEUROSIS and CELTIC FROST.

Roadburn Festival organizers have also announced that Swiss post-metal stalwarts KRUGER will play the Saturday Roadburn date — April 19, 2008.

The 13th annual Roadburn Festival will take place April 18-19, 2008. Also scheduled to appear on the Friday Roadburn date are WITCHCRAFT, TONY MCPHEE'S GROUNDHOGS, BABY WOODROSE, DANAVA, MOS GENERATOR, BLOOD OF THE SUN, GENTLEMAN'S PISTOLS, LA IRA DE DIOS, ZONE SIX and CHURCH OF MISERY, among others.

Seminal avant-garde/metal pioneers CELTIC FROST are confirmed as the main headliners, playing Saturday, April 19, 2008. YEAR OF NO LIGHT, ELECTRIC WIZARD, CULT OF LUNA, ACID MOTHERS GURU, THE HEADS, KONGH, LESBIAN, MY SLEEPING KARMA, ELECTRIC ORANGE and NADJA, amongst others, will also play the Saturday Roadburn date.

There will also be two additional dates added to Roadburn 2008: Thursday, April 17 [Roadburn's Pre-heat], and Sunday, April 20 [Roadburn's Afterburner — Kentucky's THE GLASSPACK will play an exclusive show, making their European debut]. The Roadburn Festival is currently talking to David Tibet/CURRENT 93 about a very special curated evening at the festival's main-hall on the Sunday, April, 2008. More info will follow shortly.

Originally a spin-off of the Roadburn web site, the Roadburn Festival has emerged as an event in its own right — it was even nominated for the prestigious "Festival Of The Year" award in the Netherlands this year. Roadburn brings together bands, fans and media from around the world. Despite its international acclaim, Roadburn retains an underground vibe and ethics, but with seriously big-league production values.

Cult of Luna Film Video For "Back To Chapel Town"

Swedish art-noise collective Cult of Luna have filmed a video for the "Back to Chapel Town", a track that features on their latest album out on Earache records "Somewhere Along the Highway." Filmed in Umea near where the band are from, the video took 5 days to make but much longer to plan. Johannes Persson and Erik Olofsson came up with the concept and directed the video themselves.

"Its about a dude" says Johannes trying to explain "a man waking up in a world he doesn't know, he knows nothing of his past or where he is, people treat him like air or are very suspicious of him." When asked how he felt about filming his own video Johannes says "It took fucking ages to arrange, we shot for 5 days and I've never felt so out of my element, but it was fun, and definitely something I would like to do more in the future."

The video mimicks the dark graphic feel of the album, and was even shot in the same kind of colour as the artwork on "Somewhere along the highway." The video is due to be finished by the end of September.

Cult of Luna Complete New Album

Swedish outfit Cult of Luna have completed work on their latest album entitled "Somewhere Along The Highway."

Slated for an April 24th release date via Earache Records, the initial tracking took place over seven days in a wooden octagon barn surrounded by "Blair Witch" scenery close to the bands hometown of Umea in Northern Sweden.

According to Magnus Lindberg the remote location coupled with the spotting of "Wicca witch women dancing in the woods" and the actual acoustics of the barn itself all contributed towards creating the perfect ambiance to lay down the basic tracks which were done primarily live, as a unit - a departure from previous Cult of Luna recording protocol.

Further recording and mixing happened in Tonteknik studios where both the bands 2004 album "Salvation" and its predecessor "The Beyond" (2003) were recorded. And the result promises to more raw and unpolished then the bands previous releases.

"Somewhere Along The Highway" contains 7 tracks, namely:

- Marching To The Heartbeats
- Finland
- Back To Chapel Town
- And With Her Came The Birds
- Thirtyfour
- Dim
- Dark City, Dead Man
