Nervosa Guitarist Talks New Album & Lineup Changes
It can be devastating for a band to lose a crucial member, much less two of them. Some groups never recover from losing a vocalist, but then, Nervosa aren't most bands. Formed eleven years ago in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Nervosa burst on to the international metal scene in 2014, following the release of their debut album, "Victim Of Yourself." The band were soon playing across Europe and supporting big names such as Brujeria, Sepultura and Venom and in 2016, released their sophomore full length "Agony," which earned them further recognition. After another two year wait, the trio released "Downfall Of Mankind," which featured a slightly more death metal orientation.
Last year however, Nervosa fans were shocked to learn that vocalist/bassist Fernanda Lira and drummer Luana Dametto had left to form a new band, Crypta, with Burning Witches guitarist Sonia Anubis, leaving guitarist Prika Amaral as the sole member. Not one to give up, Prika assembled an amazing collective of musicians, including Abbath bassist Mia Wallace, vocalist Diva Satanica and drummer Eleni Nota, to create a multinational unit of metal. Early this year, the quartet released, "Perpetual Chaos," a truly stunning and ferocious album which has already garnered plenty of praise.
To find out more about the album, the lineup changes, guest appearances, the Revolta side project featuring Ratos de PorĂ£o vocalist Joao Gordo and much more, I spoke with Prika Amaral herself. You can watch the interview in full below. More...

Nervosa Discusses New Drummer, Music And Brazil
While the "thrash revival" of the of the mid to late 2000s may have come and gone, there are some young bands still proudly treating headbangers to the style and proving that like punk, hardcore and the smell of weed in the Bristol air, thrash metal is here to stay. There is perhaps no greater champion of modern thrash right now than Nervosa, an all female trio from Sao Paulo, Brazil, who since their debut album, "Victim Of Yourself" in 2015, have gone from strength to strength, touring with such bands as Destruction, Flotsam and Jetsam and Sepultura and currently, with black metal pioneers, Venom Inc. and death metal favourites, Suffocation. Just prior to the first show of this monumental tour, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Nervosa vocalist/bassist Fernanda Lira to discuss everything from the latest album, "Agony," the new album expected later this year, new drummer Luanna Dametto and how life has changed in Brazil since the coup which ousted leader Dilma Rousseff in 2016. You can watch the interview below.
Speaking about new drummer, Luanna Dametto, Fernanda stated:
"She's fitting in just perfectly. It's hard to find girls not only that want to play metal but who are willing to commit to being on tour and everything. She's brought a lot of aggression to our sound and she's super nice and super chilled, she's like our baby!"
On the upcoming third album:
"We can't say much but it's going to be out soon. It's all done and finished. We're happy with the result, the label loves it. It's going to be more aggressive than, "Agony," because of Luanna's drumming. It's also faster and has more death metal sound but we're still a thrash band and it'll still be a thrash album."More...

A Conversation With Nervosa Vocalist Fernanda Lira
Back in August of this year, myself and Zora (also of Hyperfocal Fotos,) were fortunate enough to attend a show in London co-headlined by Cryptopsy and Brujeria.
Though the second of those bands grabbed peoples attention with bandannas, stage invasions and machetes, the opening act, an all female thrash metal band from Brazil named Nervosa, caught the eyes and ears of the head bangers who turned up the earliest. Their aggressive take on the genre reminiscent of the likes of Destruction and Kreator earned them several new fans on a trek which mostly featured them headlining shows on their first tour of the United Kingdom.
I was fortunate enough to meet with the band's very talkative and very friendly, vocalist/bassist, Fernanda Lira before the show and after welcoming her to London in my broken Portuguese and Fernanda speaking about her love of Amy Winehouse, we discussed the tour, their album "Victim of Yourself," and the state of the world today:
Diamond Oz: You're currently on your first headlining tour of Europe is that right?
Fernanda Lira (Bass/Vocals): Yeah, yeah! This is actually our first time ever here in the U.K. This show is really important to us because it's always been a dream for us to come here to the U.K. and Europe and playing the first gig with Brujeria and Cryptopsy and bands like that is just so awesome for us, we can't wait for that. I'm just too excited! I'm even drinking some Jack and Coke to see if I can calm down! We still have lots of other shows too, after the U.K. we're touring in Russia but it's been pretty cool so far. I'm pretty sure the U.K.'s gonna rule!More...
