Napalm Death Commence North American Tour
Birmingham's fathers of grindcore, Napalm Death, kickoff their 36-date North American tour tonight with their headlining show in Toronto, Canada. The first eight dates the band performs with Misery Index, and the remaining dates take the band across the U.S. with Cannibal Corpse, Kataklysm, and Goatwhore.
Always outspoken about politics, Napalm Death vocalist Barney Greenway had this to say about the elections:
If Bush gets voted in for another term, people really need to take a long, hard look at themselves. With Bush back in power, there'll be more unjustified military intervention, more shitty healthcare provisions for the poor, a country mired further in religious dogma etc. Not to mention seeing more of Jeb Bush's fat head on TV. On the other hand, the Democrats don't offer a real alternative. They're very close to the Republicans on a few issues, which is disappointing. I noted how some of the anti-war advocates in the Democratic Party were silenced quite early on. The crazy thing is that voting for the Green Party guy Ralph Nader is considered a pointless exercise, where as he is one of the only people to offer radical thinking. Based purely on his thoughts, I would probably go for Nader if I was an American.
That said, I think the whole system needs an overhaul. That whole 'vote-rig' thing by the Republicans in Florida last time was such a farce, people outside of the U.S. just could not believe that Americans would let something like that pass. I find it really amusing that the Republicans cast themselves as pillars of honesty when everything they do is steeped in corruption and self-interest. Similarly, I lived through Thatcher's ruthless conservatism in Britain, and I would not want to go through it again.
Napalm Death released their Century Media debut, "Leaders Not Followers: Part 2" on October 5.

Napalm Death Issues Studio Report
Napalm Death’s Barney Greenway (vocals) has sent the following message to the band’s fans:
We are currently in Foel Studios in Mid Wales (the middle of nowhere), which is actually owned by Dave Anderson who was the original bass player for Hawkwind (before Lemmy even), which rocks, of course. Everything is working out really well, and we have tried a few different methods of working here, which have really helped my voice. I am using the microphone as I would live, which helps to really get the full roar going. Guitars are sounding heavy as anything, and as we have given ourselves just about the right time in the studio - as per usual - it helps to keep us on our toes so everything sounds pretty vital. Shane is doing his usual tractor impressions with the bass, which is nice. We're currently at a race to the finish, so everything is starting to shape up properly with the only distraction being the mist that hangs over the valley most mornings...and the sheep! A few titles for you as we chalk 'em off...”Instruments Of Persuasion,” “Morale,” “Striding Purposefully Backwards,” “Climate Controllers,” “Sold Short,” plus of course the title track “The Code Is Red...Long Live The Code.” More later. Cheers.
Napalm Death will be releasing their Century Media Records debut, "Leaders Not Followers: Part 2," on October 5th. Fans can expect to see the band late October through November with Cannibal Corpse, Kataklysm, and Goatwhore.
Download 4 Resistant Culture Tracks
Jesse PIntado of NAPALM DEATH/TERRORIZER recently recorded several new tracks with tribal grindcore/metal band Resistant Culture. The tracks are like a mix of NAPALM DEATH, DISCHARGE, MINISTRY, AND BOTH THROWER woven into traditional Native American chanting, flutes, and rattle.
This band has deep roots back to the beginning of grindcore in L.A. Originally called RESISTANT MILITIA, the band was combining punk and metal music and subculture back during the early days of FEAR FACTORY, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, TERRRORIZER, ETC. It has survived many line-ups and over the years and now has come full circle with the addition of several tracks with long time friend Jesse Pintado.

Vader Cancel Upcoming North American Shows
Vader have been forced to cancel the upcoming North American tour with Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, Goatwhore, and Kataklysm due to an injury suffered by vocalist/guitarist, Peter Wiwczarek, while on tour. The band's manager Mariusz Kmioek has released this official statement:
We are sorry to inform everyone that during Scandinavian tour (October 2004) Peter has suffered from a minor spinal injury (vertebra-related) and will have to undergo a procedure to set things right (1 week at hospital and 2 weeks of rehabilitation). The only possible date to enter the hospital and fix it is in October, so we have decided on not going on our US tour! Our first idea was to schedule the procedure at hospital next year, but it would be big risk for Peter's health.
We'd like to apologize all people - Metal Blade USA, First Row Agency, Cannibal Corpse and their booking agency, Napalm Death and all maniacs - we are very sorry and we'd like to thank everyone for all their hard work in booking and arranging this tour! It's the first cancelled tour in our long (18 years) activity, and it's really a shock for us!
Let's keep our fingers crossed everything will turn out OK.
Misery Index Seek Second Guitarist
Misery Index, the Baltimore, Maryland-based band featuring Jason Netherton (bass/vocals, ex-Dying Fetus) and Sparky Voyles (guitar, ex-Dying Fetus, M.O.D.), are looking for a second guitarist to join the group on tour next year. "Ability to play all metal-related styles (death, grind, black, thrash, etc.), and availability to tour at any time are essential," reads a posting on the group's web site. "Also, lack of a criminal record (for crossing international borders) and willingness to relocate are important. We also would prefer a guitarist who can do vocals as well, and touring/recording experience is a plus. Anyone interested please get in touch at MIBooking@aol.com. METAL!!!..."
Upcoming Misery Index tour dates:
Oct. 28 - La Pocatière, QC - TBA
Oct. 30 - Campbellton, NB - TBA
Oct. 31 - Halifax, NS - Pavilion

Belphegor Prepare To Record New Album
Austrian death/black metal act Belphegor will enter Mastersound Studio in Fellbach, Germany on September 13 to begin recording their fifth full-length album, tentatively due in March 2005 through Napalm Records. "The three recording sessions will last 'till the 10th of November," the band write in a newsletter. "In [these] three months (Sept./Oct./Nov.) the group is going to concentrate on their new album 100 percent and, for that matter, will not play any concerts in that period. The new album comes first of all." Songtitles set to appear on the album include "Goatreich – Fleshcult", "Crown Massacre", "Anus Dei", "Burn the Cross", "Swarm of Rats", "The Cruzifix", "Seth - Demon of Death", "Fornicationium Et Immundum Diabolus" and "The Stigmatized".
Commented vocalist/guitarist Helmuth: "Again we will break musical rules and borders and you can expect a very special, monumetal high-speed opus with violent twin-guitars and far more leads than on it's predecessor. Through 'Lucifer Incestus' we could learn a lot concerning studio and equipment and this time we gonna use and seize it all. Again we've added a lot of new elements and reached the next level of composition and structure, without sounding less massive. The material we are developing since Dec. '03, has really grown during that time and the speeds/drumtakes are more varied than ever, from 130 beats to 180/210 ('Blutsabbath' and 'Necrodaemon' speeds) up to the typical 220/250 Belphegor speeds, I think this is one of the most outstanding attributes of the still-untitled jewel. Also we got a mighty 190 soundcollage, that even can do without any blastbeat, therefore the hardness and intensity are lethal ...of course, we got a hyper-blastattack at 260 bpm speed at start as well. This album is going to be another strong death/black metal massacre, 'Lucifer Incestus' is the climax of our work so far, but #5 is going to be our 'Reign In Blood', so u demons...be prepared."
Belphegor will embark on a mini-tour with Disastrous Murmur in mid-November, to be followed by their appearance at this year's X-Mass Fest alongside Marduk, Napalm Death, Finntroll, Vader and Black Dahlia Murder. A Brazilian tour is tentatively scheduled to take place in February/March.
Napalm Death Prepare To Record New Album
Napalm Death are currently in England preparing to record their forthcoming studio album. Commenting on why the band chose to record in Wales, vocalist Barney Greenway had this to say:
The studio is called Foel Studios in the town of Foel, North Wales (Porcupine Tree, Ozric Tentacles), and is owned by the original bass player in Hawkwind. We decided to record here because it's pretty isolated out in the countryside, so there are minimal distractions. We feel that good use of studio time is pivotal and where as some bands might sit around taking things easy for periods, we really work intensively. In the studio, it's actually better to be slightly stressed and on edge for us because it's a good way to capture that kind of on the edge live vibe, which in turn gives us the extra thrust. Personally, I'm never happy with a verse of vocals if I think that I can squeeze a last drop of rawness out of my voice. Sometimes I probably attack things too much, but intensity is the key for me. I like to think we've done enough trips to the studio now to know what we're doing, yet you can never be entirely prepared for the unexpected where, say, the desk might burst into flames or something. Russ Russell will be producing, as he's a very trustworthy man at the knobs for us now as well as being a mate. We're confident he'll do a great job on the new stuff, which is sounding spectacularly savage - a good mix of the very best bits from the last two albums.
Napalm Death will be releasing their Century Media debut, "Leaders Not Followers: Part 2," on October 5. The follow-up to 1999's 5-track "Leaders Not Followers" EP, Part 2 contains 19 full-bodied tracks, covers from bands like Anit-Cimex, DiISCHARGE, Hellhammer, Kreator, and more.

Napalm Death Announces Album Release Date
Century Media Records has set October 5, 2004 as the North American release date for Napalm Death’s "Leaders Not Followers Part 2." 17 years after the release of their now legendary debut record, "Scum," British extreme metal legends Napalm Death deliver their second covers collection, which pays homage to hardcore, death, and thrash metal’s progenitors. "Leaders Not Followers Part 2" continues where 1999’s 5-track "Leaders Not Followers" EP left off, serving up 19 full-bodied tracks. Opening with Cryptic Slaughter’s “Lowlife,” the stakes rise and the band tears through Devastation’s “Devastation,” and whips into Hellhammer’s “Messiah,” a version that possibly outshines the original. In a ferocious fit the band plows through classic songs from Wehrmacht, Discharge, Master, Kreator, Die Kruezen, Sepultura and Hirax. As a bonus to long-time fans, and at the urging of long-time friend Shane Embury, the band’s first bass player, Jim Whiteley, performs here on Discharge’s “War’s No Fairytale” and Anti Cimex’s “Game Of The Arseholes.”
Napalm Death Co-Headlining U.S. Tour
Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury has posted the following message on the group's official web site:
"Hi there... Well, I have just got back to the U.K. and all I can say is it's cold! Must be getting used to the Los Angeles weather I guess. Anyway back to reality....
"We . . . are discussing plans at the moment to hopefully tour the United States in the summer as part of a co-headliner! All being well I will have some news on this for you soon there are just a few details to work out, it should all hopefully coincide with the release of the covers album. We may play a set that consists mainly of that album as well. It depends. Of course, there would be the classics....
"As for the future of this site, I am gonna be commissioning someone to design a brand new site in the next couple of months as I know this one has its problem but I will keep you guys informed."
Napalm Death Bassist Issues Thank-You Message
Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury has posted the following message at the band’s official website (www.enemyofthemusicbusiness.com):
“Hi there, well what can I say? Had a great tour all considering, met some great people and had some great times, special thanks goes out to Mothercare from Italy for making that part of the tour really great. Frank Duval and all his friends who we always see in Germany (shows wouldn't be the same without you mate), Susanna from Murcia for looking after us, Cristian and Mari from Barcelona and all at Peppe's Bar (for me and Mitch's birthday cake and that special present). Our crew - Dave, Bradley and Holger - definitely couldn't have done it without you, to the rest of the band (near and far) and obviously massive thanks to everyone who came out to support us. It means a lot...
Have a very Merry X-mas and a Happy New Year... Be well! Shane.”

Napalm Death Side Projects Update
Napalm Death’s websitehas posted the following comments from bassist Shane Embury regarding ND side projects.
In regards to his grindcore project with Lee Dorian (Cathedral, ex-Napalm Death), Shane comments, “Yeah, me and Lee have been talking about doing something for ages but I think hopefully next year we will get something together... hopefully Roy Mayorga, who was playing drums in Soulfly will drum and Mid who is responsible for a lot of the Napalm Death artwork will play guitar as he now plays in a band called Bait and used to be the guitar player for Deviated Instinct who of course go way back to the early Napalm days! Fingers crossed!”
Regarding his other project that also features vocalist Kevin Sharpe (Brutal Truth) and guitarist Buzz Osborne (Melvins, Fantomas), Shane states, “The one with Kevin and Buzz will be out early next year as we are just searching for a label to put it out, but it's done and ready to go, gonna be recording some songs for some split records early next year as well.”
