Bloodsimple Frontman Interviewed On PureGrainAudio

Bloodsimple frontman Tim Williams sat down with PureGrainAudio to talk about the band's new album, Vision of Disorder's legacy, and how he's managed to survive over a decade in the music business. An excerpt of the interview follows:

PureGrainAudio: In 2006 Vision of Disorder did a couple reunion shows and there was a talk of a DVD release. What is the status of that release and would you ever reunite for a full tour?

Tim: I don’t think we’d ever do a full tour, but we will probably do some major cities here and there. We’re lucky that people even want to see that band anymore, so we’re not going to milk it. We’ll look at cities that we think would be cool to play, maybe head to Japan or something, but we’re going to keep it limited. As far as the DVD, it’s just been a bitch because Mike and I are in Bloodsimple and tied to Warner Bros., so the paper work is at our lawyers but it’s taken a while to clear all the red tape. It looks like there is an end in sight, so we’re hoping to have it out possibly this summer, even though it was supposed to be out last summer.

KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer left the band's European tour last month for "personal and family reasons," according to a statement posted by the band at its official web site. Singer Jonathan Davis said, "We fully support Munky's need to be home right now and because we want to come through for all of our European fans, the tour will go on. It's what Munky wants us to do, too. We promise to give it our all every night!"

In a MySpace bulletin, Munky stated about his decision to leave the tour, "If you want to better understand my departure, then listen to the words in the song 'Watching the Wheels' by John Lennon."

Although his departure is not seen as permanent, Shaffer is the third original member of KORN to exit in the last three years. Guitarist Brian "Head" Welch left in early 2005, while drummer David Silveria went on "temporary hiatus" in late 2006 and has yet to return.

KORN's current touring lineup includes guitarists Shane Gibson and Rob Patterson, and ex-ARMY OF ANYONE drummer Ray Luzier, in addition to remaining original members Davis and bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu.

Bloodsimple Miss Last Three Family Values Shows

New York metalcore crew BLOODSIMPLE has issued the following statement:

"Well, that's it. [Vocalist] Tim [Williams] (a.k.a. The Elephant Man) can barely even open his mouth [after having an emergency tooth pulled in L.A.], much less scream bloody murder, so we're forced to cancel the last three shows of the Family Values tour. Nobody is happy about this and in turn we spent $200 at the liquor store and will try and deal with it while we're stuck in L.A. We do have tour plans being solidified now and hope to be back out late September. Hope to have an update next week......in the meantime AAGGHHHHHHH."

BLOODSIMPLE is scheduled to release its sophomore album, "Red Harvest", on October 9. A single, "Out to Get You", is expected to impact radio shortly.

Rehearsal footage of BLOODSIMPLE playing the new song "Dark Helmet" from its forthcoming CD "Red Harvest" has been posted at MetalKult.com. MetalKult.com has posted a new video interview with BLOODSIMPLE in which the band talks about a range of topics, including their roots in VISIONS OF DISORDER and SKREW, and their approach to writing their latest album, "Blood Harvest".

"This record is definitely a step up from the last one," says guitarist Nick Rowe.

"We tried to write more as a band this time," adds guitarist Mike Kennedy. "The last record was written a lot on ProTools and it was a little more structured whereas on this record we tried to open it up a little bit and make it feel like a real band wrote it. I think we definitely achieved that, for sure."

"Red Harvest" was produced by Machine (LAMB OF GOD, WHITE ZOMBIE). The LP will contain around 11 tracks, including "Dead Man Walking", the title cut and "El Myr" — the name of an Atlanta burrito bar the band loves to visit while on the road.

BLOODSIMPLE's debut CD, "A Cruel World", was released in March 2005 on MUDVAYNE singer Chad Gray's Bullygoat label imprint (via Warner Bros.).

Bloodsimple To Miss Sacramento Family Values Show

New York metalcore crew BLOODSIMPLE has issued the following statement:

"Sorry to say but we will have to cancel the Family Values show in Marysville [California] on Friday. Tim [Williams, vocals] has to have an emergency tooth pulled in L.A. in about an hour. He is in bad shape. We hope to be able to play Saturday in San Francisco (Mountain View) and Sunday in Irvine. Have to wait and see how he recovers. This totally sucks for all of us and we apologize!!!"

Bloodsimple Aim For Longevity

MTV.com reports: It was important for former Vision of Disorder frontman Tim Williams to establish his latest project, New York hard-rockers Bloodsimple, as a band with its own identity, and not just VOD: The Sequel. And thanks to Bloodsimple's 2005 debut LP, A Cruel World, they accomplished just that, Williams believes. These days, though, the singer is more concerned about longevity.

"In any standard career, the first record puts you on the map," he explained. The second one — which Bloodsimple have been working on since August and have tentatively titled Red Harvest — "is when the haters come out. That's the true moment of a band's career and determines whether a band makes it to that third record.

"This is the hump right here," he continued. "I do think a lot of people will see our sound has truly evolved into our own brand of heavy music with this record. That's what we set out to do. We really have come into our own on this record — that I can say with confidence. Whether or not it's going to blow us up, or take us to that next level, remains to be seen. But ... the band as a whole has really grown into a tight unit. It's a little bit different than what I think people are going to expect, which is always good."

Red Harvest, which is being mixed at the moment and was produced by Machine (Lamb of God, White Zombie), should surface before the summer, Williams said. The LP will contain around 11 tracks, including "Dead Man Walking," "Dark Helmet," the title cut and "El Myr" — the name of an Atlanta burrito bar the band loves to visit while on the road.

"With the first record, we really just had to get it out," he explained. "We put down some really amazing songs, too. But this record, we really purposely were like, 'Let's try not to do the run-of-the-mill Bloodsimple number two — let's focus on expanding our horizons.' We wanted to make a more organic record, rather than just a set, themed, heavy record. We wanted to bring out some different colors that are going to scare some fans away but bring in a whole new element of people. There are a handful of songs that are for the typical Bloodsimple listener, but there's a good five songs that are out there on the edge. They're still heavy, but they're different. ... We're really going to make our mark with this one."

Williams said the album title was inspired by Dashiell Hammett's 1929 novel of the same name. In that book, "blood-simple" is when, in a situation where a person is surrounded by murder, murder becomes a viable solution to practically any problem. Hence, life is devalued, and killing begets even more killing.

Bloodsimple Post Doors Cover Online

BLOODSIMPLE, which features in its ranks former members of VISION OF DISORDER and MEDICATION, has posted the following message on its MySpace page:

"Well, you guys overwhelmed us with ideas for covers, so many good ones I wish we could do a whole record of 'em, but that ain't happenin', so we picked one, went into the Machine Shop [in Hoboken, New Jersey] for an evening with the one and only Machine behind the board, set up some mics, filled the room with a nice skunky haze, got Tim [Williams, vocals] ripped, and in honor of the late great Jim Morrison we give you '5 to 1'. And because we love you that much, or we're just morons, you can download it, steal it, burn it, stick it in your iPod, whatever the hell you want... just take it."
