NY Venue Lamour Closes

Lamour, a venue in Brooklyn, NY, has closed. After years of promoting local metal bands by having them open for larger acts, such as The Gathering, Shadows Fall, Hypocrisy, Nevermore, Nightwish, etc. This venue primarily booked metal bands and nothing mainstream. This was the hot spot for metal in the area. Local bands now have to either goto a small VFW like venue, or journey much further to be heard. It was in a good location and pretty popular.

Most of their shows would have about 6 local bands open for a big name band. Though maybe too many bands, it is a stratagy that isn't used often today. Most venues in the NJ,NY area, at the size of this one, usually will have one or two local acts open.

At all the mainstream venues, take irving plaza in NYC for example, are owned by clear channel, thus making it nearly impossible for any unknown act to be heard. The decrease in venues that aren't owned by clear channel is becomming less and less, which means that clear channel is more and more controlling.

Though the cause of this particular venue is unknown at the moment, my best advise is to seek out venues that book local bands often and help them out by going to their shows, buying soda and such (yeah i know its pricey, but it keeps the venue alive) there, etc.

i think the state of the new york music scene right now is disgusting, it is nearly immpossible for local bands to be heard and the number of venues that promote the local scene are dimminishing ,especially with the closing down of castle heights in queens last year which was home to the great live metal including shadows fall, sworn enemy, immohlation, skell, and a ton of others. if anyone cares these are some good places to checkout good live local music...tipparary arms in flushing on satuarday nights (its kind of cool to hang out at on othernights too), red zone in middle villiage, o'sheas in westchester, and of course the various clubs in manhattan...check the voice
