LMAOROTF!!!!!!!!!!!
You have to admit, it's so bad it's hilarious.
I can't help but draw comparisons to Morbid Angels "Illud".
Everyone thought that would be the worst album of 2011 but Lulu easily outdoes it in terms of sheer crappiness.
Also, everyone said not to judge "Illud" just by the 30 second samples.....um....but those samples were accurate. So will Lulu's.
I also thought that the first sample of "Illud" was a joke to thwart the pirates.
You ever hear the old saying.........fool me once?
Only Met. could release something this bad and think it's actually good.

Oz, clearly the album in question is Lou Reed's classic "Metal Machine Music", an album that consists Nothing but guitar feeback, a guaranteed hit with the RCA execs back in 1975.

It was actually to be another 70s lp, on one vinyl, but as the master recs were so dense, to get the most out of original recordings, Townhouse mastering decided to release it as a double album, as more good news to RCA execs.

What can I say? As a guitarist, I love 'Metal Machine Music'.

I sleep to Metal Machine music. No bs. I do.

A short story of two pot heads, Cliff and Rich:

Rich: “Hey brotha, how ya been?”

Cliff: “Doin’ aight… I’d be helluva lot better after some of your special master brownies, though.”

R: “I got something even better than that…” (Pulls a snickers bar out of his pocket and sets it on the counter.)

C: (both slighty amused and confused) “Dude, that just looks like a f***ed up snickers bar.”

R: “Yeah, but it’s special!”

C: “Uhhh…. Special ‘good’, or special ‘retard’? looks like the latter. I mean, the wrappers all twisted and taped up, and it looks like its been sitting in the sun all afternoon.”

R: “Nah, it’s fine… I just added to it and made it better, like a collaboration between me and Mars, Inc.”

C: “A collaboration. between you and Mars? Well, if its anything like your lightnin’ brownies, it ought to be sweet!”

Excited for a good confectionary buzz, Cliff grabs the snickers and untapes the wrapper, holding the exposed portion of the morsel up to his mouth, he slowly takes in the aroma.

C: (convulses) “wwwhOAA! f***, that is some bunk sh**! It smells awful! Like a warm dog turd!” (takes another short whiff, gags) “I think I smell some of the herb, kinda potpourri, but more like somebody took a steaming sh** in grandmas flowerbed.”

R: “Dude, just trust me on this one. It will blow your mind.”

Cliff unwraps it a little more to get a good look. He is non-plussed

R: “So, whatdoyathink? I’m pretty proud of it. I think I outdid myself.”

C: “Man, I love ya bro, but I think you may have been baked a bit too much when you created this. Sorry, but this looks like a piece of sh**. Literally… That’s what it looks like.” (turns his nose to avoid the infiltrating stink – unsuccessfully.)

R: “Aww, c’mon bro-tha! Don’t knock it till ya try it! I promise you, it will get you good and f***ed up!”

C: “I don’t know Rich… It looks like a piece of sh**. I mean it. Look at it. It’s even got peanuts sticking out of it…
R: …that’s the snickers.”
C: (Raises an eyebrow) “Yeah right. It still looks like sh**.”
R: “ C’moooonnnn. Taste it! Dude, have I ever steered you wrong before?”
C: “YES!! The last decade was full of fail! Your black licorice thai sticks, your loaded weed seeds.. your Reloaded weed seeds… My head was pounding after your “Holy Bud”. St. Reefer, my ass…”
R: Yeah well, what about my magnetic maryjane? Huh? That was some good sh**, right? RIGHT?”
C: “Honestly? It was ok, but just seemed like a rehash of your classic brownie recipe. I’d take your Master or Lightnin’ brownies over it any day. Hell, it’s a damn shame you won’t brew anything like your ‘just ice’ concoction. That was a great beer. If only you still did THAT.”

R: (Undeterred) “Dude. I promise you.. This is like nothing I’ve done before! I never tried messin' with Snickers before, but its like a whole new realm...a clean sheet of paper idea. Nothing was off limits. I could do anything! And I created THIS!... (points both open palms at the snickers turd) just for you, my friend. Take a bite.”

C: “You first.”
R: “But I made it just for you.”
C: “Two words.. Saint. Reefer.”
R: “One bite”
C: “You first”

R: “Alright, bro.” (Rich takes a huge bite, and quickly swallows after about a half dozen rushed chews.) “Mmmm…. Delicious! The THC ought to hit any minute…”

Rich seems genuinely pleased with himself. Ironicly, a sh**eating grin slowly crosses his face.

C: (pauses… sighs…) “Allright, just one bite... But, if this thing tastes like it looks and smells, I’m kicking your ass. By the way, you’ve got a piece of corn in your teeth.”

#15 - I don't want to start nitpicking, but I think it's a stretch to call Black-era Metallica "clueless." They had EVERYONE's attention then, in a mostly positive way, because their music was still amazing. Outside all the surrounding history, Black is a great solid metal album. If you want clueless Metallica, Branded is right - start with Load.

HS: I can't speak for the other members hear, but for me it's not about entitlement. It's disappointment that seems to be the running theme in the comments. The guys in Metallica have talent and they released some good albums once upon a time. They could have done better than this, is all I'm saying. Nothing about the playing sounds inspired to my ears, yet the interviews and media reports make it sound like they've sh!t the golden egg of avant garde metal. There is alot of comparison to feces in the comments. I don't wonder why. It may be great to them, but I'm already tired of them telling us how great it is and expecting us to 'get it'.
When you listen to it and break it down, what's to get?

The drums are sloppy, even by Lars' loose standards.
The guitars are simply lackluster - decent tone in spots, but dull and devoid of feeling.
The vocals are.... idk. Lou is pushing 70 and his shaky voice shows his age. James, sounds ok, but... just ok.
The lyrics are too obtuse. Sure I can see the connection to the Lulu plays, but surely his brain could come up with a better analogy than "I am the table".
Really, what's to 'get'?

My attitude there was stemmed more from comments in general that straight up say "this sucks" without explanation or reason as apposed to the article's actual content. Maybe it's how I was raised, I don't know, but it urks me and I took aim at you guys. Immature on my part to say the least!

Anyways, I dislike this Lulu album because it purely doesn't float my boat and from the looks of things, there's sinking ships all around me haha.
