Chimaira Denied Entry To Russia, Cancels Russian Tour Dates

Chimaira has announced the cancellation of their Russian tour and issued the following update about it:
"Much to our despair, we’ve been denied entry into Russia to perform for our patient and metal starved fans. After having to postpone the original dates from October 2009, we’ve had plenty of time to prepare for this trip. Everything has been in place for weeks now…The gear has been ordered, the flights have been booked, and we’re HERE, on the European continent, ready to depart for St. Petersburg tomorrow morning. But to our absolute dismay and MASSIVE financial burden, the Russian Embassy has refused to issue us our visas. Nice timing right? And after our road manager spending three days at the Embassy searching for answers and resolution, we’ve basically been given the middle finger, and there’s nothing further we can do. Our biggest regret is for the fans who have been waiting months for this weekend to come, and we hope they can understand that we’ve exhausted every option to correct the situation. Please accept our deepest apologies, we’ll try to make it up to you all one day."

Russia does have its problems with government corruption, so the fact that they have had problems entering is not too suprising. I doubt that it is specifically directed at Chimaira because they are American, but probably more that that is how business is done.
Several corporations almost exclusively refuse to do business in Russia based on the corruption of city officials and building inspectors. IKEA is on corporation that announced that they would cease building any new operations after they had so many problems maintaining their business there. They had to delay a store opening as the day it was supposed to open a city inspector informed them that their building was too close to the street, as well as having their power turned off. Most times they are looking for bribes as it is pretty common practice. I'd bet that a little money under the table and they may mysteriously be allowed in to perform.
Its different than we do in the states, but if its pretty prevelant its tough to break the mold.

I doubt the Russians are still holding a grudge against Americans or else they probably wouldn't have teh Monsters of Rock Festival where they let American bands play. That just really sucks for the fans cuz Chimaira is one of the last bands you'd wanna miss live. STAY METAL MY FRIENDS!

Hey friends, as a Finn I know it's hard for even transportation to get to Russia (meaning, truck traffic crossing the Finn/Ruskie border), even if it's stuff that was ordered by Russian companies (= all documents are in order, there should be no suprises along the way).
From what I hear, a hundred or so euros to the officials will usually open the gates...
Russians authorities are a bunch of Kunts. Make no mistake about it

Well it's nothing new.. the russians still are feeling a huge complex for America. Welcome to the jungle guys. Russia is on her way to cultural and sociological self-destruction.
