Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy Finishes Recording Drums For New Avenged Sevenfold Album

Band Photo: Avenged Sevenfold (?)
In a recent message posted online, Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy revealed that he has finished recording the drums for Avenged Sevenfold's new studio album. He was recruited to record with the band following the passing of Avenged Sevenfold drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. Portnoy's message reads as follows:
"Just finished my drum tracks for the Avenged Sevenfold album...what an amazing and emotional experience! Me and Zacky (Vengeance - guitar) celebrated by getting matching Death Bat tats here in the studio.
"I must thank the amazing A7X fans for being so open and welcoming to me. I was fearing them being very defensive over The Rev's drum throne but they've all been so supportive, open-minded, understanding and excited by the news...it is a huge relief to me and the guys!.
"What an awesome family spirit these guys have...lotsa love! Shadows (vocals), Gates (guitar), Zacky and Johnny (Christ - bass) are now my brothers for life. Hopefully this won't be the last time I play with them.
"And oh yeah, the album is gonna be incredible!
"The Rev is absolutely looking down with a big-ass smile on his face!"

NOOOO GOD NOOOOO IT'S LIKE A TRAIN WRECKKKKK....
I'm sorry, this really is pathetic. I mean it was bad enough that he agreed to work with them, but matching tattoos? This is just sad. I mean seriously just look at their picture. They look like fags. And wtf kind of name is "Zacky Vengeance?" Sounds like some gay a$$ Disney channel sh** or something.
Look, it sucks that their drummer died, but these guys f***ing sucks, and as far as I'm concerned, they're not metal, and Portnoy never should've done this. It's like date rape or something. In a week or two he's going to wake up and be like, "GAH WHERE DID THIS TAT COME FROM? *PUKES*"

Jeez Guys chill out all the drums were already written so all Mike Portnoy had to do was record them. A week's actually quite a long time to just lay down drum parts that had been written already. Its the mixing and mastering and producing that takes time. The recording of them is the easiest bit. The fact that that took them a week shows that they must have been making sure it was all perfect and with a drummer like Mike Portnoy, it doesnt take long to get things perfect.

most bands write in the studio so thats why it takes longer but Avenged have been writing this album for ages before they have even entered the studio which is proven by the fact that the rev had his parts written before he dies i.e. before they entered the studio

^^^Thanks for clearing all of that up for everyone. Nice to know that A7X are so professional while other bands just wing it in the studio according to you. Too bad their sound and music doesn't reflect all of that hard work and preparation. Kind of makes one think you may be just an RCH off the mark there fan boi. hmmmm...

I could write an entire article on how idiotic yours posts are, Huw Edwards. It would take far too much time and energy to explain everything that is wrong with your statements, on a band i don't even care about none the less. Lets see anyone jump into Sean Reinhart, Gene Hoglan, or Tomas Haake's "drum throne", learn an albums worth of songs, the exact same way as they wrote it, as you said is the case in this situation, and record the whole thing to perfection. Mike Portnoy, or any drummer for that matter, would be working on that for at least a month. And thank you for clear up the art of recording for everyone on here, because NONE of us on here have EVER recorded in a studio or anything like that...

Everybody knows you write the best lyrics when sitting on the sh!tter....outhouse, comode, port o poti or a latrene...whats this studio stuff?
The only place where a man can be alone and get any peace and quiet and or work done. In the studio you got too many distractions, band members, record execs, groupies etc.....any one can write a song, but you ll find most great songs are written straight from the sewer

Its cool how many people are sitting behind the keyboard, trying to tell Mike f***IN Portnoy what's good for him and what isn't. Hell he could have a god damn rainbow and a unicorn tatooed on his face for all I care. As long as he keeps playing the drums like that, I will listen.
I'd rather listen to A7X than Dream Theater any day.

Dang . . . It's really hard to believe that in a community that supports such an artistic and technical genre as metal could be so harsh and "close-minded". Of all the album I've heard . . . Which is in fact all of them, it's nothing short of an evolution, whether it's the playing skill, the song-writing, or how they've handled themselves independently in the studio producing their own albums . . . It's said to say the Rev will never take his throne again, but it's Mike "explicative deleted" Portnoy . . . I'm blown-away . . . the night he died we joked about it . . . but damn . . . "Tour?"

I think it's great and everything that A7X found a new drummer to complete the album, but with as much respect as possible to Portney, i think it's ridiculous and extremely inappropriate that he got a death bat on his arm. A bunch of fans are going to flip sh** about that...
