Remains of Missing Virginia Tech Student, Morgan Dana Harrington, Found

Skeletal remains of what is believed to be Morgan Dana Harrington, the 20-year-old Virgina Tech student who went missing following a Metallica concert in Charlottesville, Virginia on October 17, 2009, have been found on a Virginia farm 10 miles from the concert venue.
The remains reportedly have blond hair and were clad in black clothing. Missing-person fliers for Harrington described her as blond and said she was wearing a black T-shirt with the word "Pantera" on it, a black miniskirt, black tights and black boots when she disappeared.
At a news conference, authorities said they were confident the remains are those of Harrington. "There were significant items and evidence" found to support the identification, Virginia State Police Superintendent Steve Flaherty said, although he would not elaborate. Police did not give any information about how she died. The body was being taken to Richmond for an autopsy.
The Harrington family offered a $100,000 reward for her return or information leading to the arrest of anyone involved in her disappearance, to which Metallica added another $50,000.
Metallica commented on the latest turn of events:
"Our most sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Morgan Dana Harrington, the 20 year old Virginia Tech student who was last seen while attending our concert at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA. Sadly, Morgan's body was found yesterday ending her family's three month vigil hoping and praying for her safe return. Mere words cannot express the anguish and grief that we know her parents Dan and Gil are feeling, and our thoughts are with them.

I ran a search through Google on her. There's a website run by the family and a massive Facebook group (33,000+ members). This truly is one of the most tragic and, I'll admit it, heart breaking things I've heard in some time. It's unbelievable how many people her story has touched- people like us who never would've known her in our entire lives, and yet we feel so much sympathy. My sorrow and compassion goes out to her parents. I find this much more tragic than the death of a famous musician because she was a student, trying to better herself so she could make her way through the world. I only hope that this kind of tragedy never happens again.
And if this was the result of a violent crime...

now is not the time to speculate, but to just give condolences and let the police to the detective work. this hits so close to home because she was enjoying what all us metalheads alike enjoy- a good metal concert: yet its turned out so wrong, its sickening that this sh** happens so often my heart goes out to the poor family who have to bear the burden for the rest of their days.

Poor kid. I hope she didn't have to suffer. But I agree, it almost HAS to be someone she halfway knew, or thought she knew. I hope they find the piece of human garbage who did this and he/she/it puts a fight and gets their f*cking face shot off. I'm a proud father of 2 great kids that I am raising on a steady diet of metal, so this really gets under my f*cking skin.

The remains have since been confirmed as Morgan's from dental records.
Metalbro: While it isn't impossible that a woman killed her it is far more likely that a man did it. Women killing women is a very rare occurrance.

Why is everyone jumping to homicide? Did I miss something? I've been to many shows where people are so wasted they can barely walk and don't know who or where they are. Why couldn't she have wandered off and fell and hit her head or something way less sinister than the obvious conclusions you all are jumping to? But anyway, back to the real issue. It's very terrible to think that things like this can still happen. My heart and soul goes out to the entire Harrington family. Like Hammerheart said in #27, it's a relief that they found her, but unfortunately in a gruesome and horrible way. STAY METAL MY FRIENDS!

This is definitely very sad. The fact that this is an hour drive from where I am, actually bringing her to where I am for the autopsy, saddens me a bit more to have such a horrible event happen so close to home.
What makes me consider the possibility of murder instead of something else is that she is a VA Tech student in the hometown of their arch rivals UVA. I hope I'm just reading to much into it because if I'm correct that she was murdered by some UVA student because she attends VA Tech adds a new low to a situation that seems impossible to be any lower.

Much heartfelt Condolences to the HARRINGTON Family for the lost of their beloved daughter MORGAN a much promised Virginia Tech Student/rest in sweet harmony young lady. I was waitin for this one.....it breaks my f***n heart. Honestly how did this happen? An attractice blonde female dissapears and nobody knows ne thing? Somebody knows somthing, like boyfriend... IDK it just makes me sick and makes me not wanna go to ne concerts with my gf who by the way bears quite a resemblence to morgan.
