The band achieved this rank after selling over 41,000 copies of the album in it's first week of release. The band's previous album, "Christ Illusion" entered the Billboard album charts at number five when it was released in 2006.

"World Painted Blood" has achieved it's highest charting position in Germany where it debuted at number seven in the German album charts and has also entered the top ten in Australia where it came in at number nine. The album also reached the number fifteen position in Holland, the number sixteen position in New Zealand and number forty one in the United Kingdom.

Being a die hard Slayer fan of course I bought it first week. Definitely not their best but definitely not bad. After that disgrace called Diabolus, they were on a good roll with God Hates Us All and Christ Illusion. Favorite tracks are Hate Worldwide and Pscycopathy Red. STAY METAL MY FRIENDS!

Maybe had I bought this and "Endgame" it may have helped push them to #1, but I didn't. I downloaded for free. When "Death Magnetic" I bought for myself and eventually gave it to my little brother, and then downloaded another copy for myself for free. (Ironically, an ex-coworker at my job bought me a copy of DM as my secret Santa, so now I have a free CD in my collection.) Such is the power of Metallica and not of Megadeth and Slayer.

Billboard 200 debuts and units sold

Metallica - "Death Magnetic" - #1 (490,000 sold)

Megadeth - "Endgame" - #9 (45,000 sold)

Slayer - "World Painted Blood" - #12 (41,000 sold)

^^^^a-f***in-men to that^^^^ metalica, kiss, and everyother band that turned their music and legacy to a brand will always sell millions its people buying blindy just to support that brand..such goes in politics religion and every other aspect in which a word label or brand means power and the right to never be questioned. i can name at least 100 metal albums released in the past 3 yrs that didnt sell a fraction of that but will be held more highly and have more longeivty than anything metallica has done since '91..for us its quality over quanity but for old washed up way past their prime assface douches its quite the opposite...damn 2 metallica bashings in one day i need to stop

Does sound exactly the same as every other album that slayer has put out or is it worth my time? That really is my only problem with Slayer.

^Exactly. As far as actual albums from beginning to end I can only listen to Show No Mercy, Hell Awaits, and Reign in Blood while picking up some of the better songs from South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss but after Reign in Blood its pretty much been the same album over and over again.

One thing i really love about this album is the tone. It reminded me of LOG's Wrath tone wise, in the sense that, the guitars had a more mild, natural sounding distortion and everything sounded like a real band playing the songs in a room together, instead of sounding digitally built like a lot of albums sound today.

Oh my God... all of you sound like a bunch of pre-madonna, wanna be metal heads!!!!

1st. Slayer is Slayer, they will always be Slayer nothing
more nothing less. It is because of this that no
matter what Slayer does it will be Slayer. Which to
me means I know every time I buy a Slayer record
it will be good!

2nd Metallica stopped being Metallica the moment they
decided that metal meant to sell albums, bootleging
music was a crime, and last but not least Cliff
Burton passed. (God rest his soul)

3rd In todays age of internet technology record sale
numbers mean nothing. They haven't for a long
time. Especially sense every populer radio station
and music awards show have forgotten that there is
other types of music besides rap, hip-hop, R & B,
Blah, Blah, Blah!!!

So stop it you fakes, face the facts: Slayer is the only band who held on to what makes them happy and there true fans happy with no compromise!

I think that it is amazing that in America, where metal is deemed as an unsanitary waste of money, a metal band can still sell that many records, it shows that people still buy albums. Metal has to be one of the few genres that buying albums instead of downloading them is the only way to go. For a band that doesn't get mainstream play, selling 41,000 records is fan-freakin-tastic

Personally, I thought this album was nothing special. Same with Endgame, nothing special. Sure Slayer will always sound like "Slayer", I would be p***ed if they didn't but to change and evolve is something that every great metal band has to do to keep fans interested. Some change for the better and some for the worse. Slayer just seems to be keeping it in neutral.
