Machine Head Pulls Out Of Sonisphere U.K. Over Limp Bizkit Dispute

California based metal outfit Machine Head has announced that due to an arguement with the events organizers over their billing, they will not be performing at Sonisphere U.K. on August 2nd. A message from the band reads as follows:
"It is with the utmost disappointment that we must announce that Machine Head will not be playing the Sonisphere date at Knebworth in the UK on August 2nd.
"In a turn of events that has left us absolutely baffled, the promoter of the UK Sonisphere festival recently placed, unbeknownst to us, LIMP BIZKIT in our 3rd slot on the festival. Seeing as the running order was a significant part of the negotiation and agreement between us and the promoter, and the fact that we had been advertised in that slot since the festival's announcement, you can imagine our surprise when we were "told" that we would now be playing in the 4th slot, under Limp Bizkit, and bizarrely, it was actually expected that we would quietly move down the bill without issue. We will not.
"Machine Head turned down the U.K.'s Download Festival, a festival we are very fond of - which incidentally, had us above Limp Bizkit - to commit to the Knebworth festival, as we felt a closer kinship to the bands performing this year. In an effort to make this situation in Knebworth work, we have spent more than a week striving to resolve this issue in a proper manner. Unfortunately, that did not happen.
"So we have regrettably been left with no choice but to cancel our appearance rather than stand for the disrespect and indignity offered by a promoter who won't honor our agreement. While we know that our fans will be furious about this situation - as are we, beyond words - we trust that you will all understand our position, and we encourage you to voice your opinion about it as loud and clear as possible.
"The rest of our festival dates across Europe, including the other Sonisphere dates, as well as our headline of the Wacken festival remain unchanged."
The Sonisphere organizers have responded to Machine Head's comments with the following statement:
"We regretfully confirm that Machine Head have made the decision to pull out of Sonisphere Festival Knebworth. We have spent close to two weeks talking to Machine Head to try and keep them on the festival including offering them higher billing on the Saturn Stage, so that they would be performing immediately after LIMP BIZKIT and before NIN. They would also get a longer time slot and were offered an increase in fee. Unfortunately the band did not find this agreeable. We have strived to make Sonisphere a great festival in our debut year with one of the strongest line ups out there. Our main priority is to give the fans a great weekend full of awesome bands and it was only recently that Limp Bizkit became available. In the process Machine Head have been upset, and despite our best efforts, they have made the decision to cancel their appearance. We are obviously very disappointed that they will no longer be a part of the stellar line up at Knebworth on August 1st and 2nd and what promises to be an incredible weekend. Machine Head will still be appearing at Sonisphere Festivals in Spain (where they have now been moved to a main stage slot), Finland and Sweden."

Oz: It isn't because they booked them, it's because MH was bumped. I know you love your LB and you know I love my MH, but let's not lose sight of what is going on here. When they booked the show, they were billed in the 3rd slot and now they've been bumped to 4th slot. It's business brother. I've backed out of shows before for this very reason. Sometimes the slot you play has everything to do with attendance/crowd participation, etc.

Fair enough mate. I can't say I wouldn't be annoyed too. But if they got offered a higher spot on the second stage, as well as more money, I'd have gone with that since more or less every Machine Head fan there, or people interested in seeing them, will head over to the stage to watch them. I dunno. I've always found Machine Head to be incredibly overrated to be honest. I like them, but people make way too big a deal out of them in my opinion.

It sounds to me like it turned into a pissing match. I'm not up to date on how the festivals work over there now days, but here the second stage is a step down from main stage and depending on how its situated (proximity from main stage) it may have taken them out of the stream of exposure. I wasn't in on the dealings of course, but if they pulled out; there was probably a good reason for it. MH is a hard working band and its a rare occasion that they will pull out of a show. I know them personally, so i'm obviously biased in my opinions. lol.

I understand MH's frustration - it's an insult to in effect be downgraded after a long agreed contract - and I agree they shouldn't take it lying down, but in terms of their fans there is no possible benefit for them... playing fourth on the bill, with reservations, would still allow us to see them. They might think it's sh** to have LB on third over them, but it's sh**ter for their fans to have LB and no Machine Head. If Rob wants to slate the organisers on stage he can say what he likes to voice his opinion... that would at least allow the fans to make a point by agreeing with him at the event, but making their point by withdrawing is taking the money from the fans pockets. Many of us bought tickets to see THEM, so by pulling out they f*** us over too.

p***ed about this, but I've seen Machine Head before, so it could be worse ...
Limp Bizkit are a band that should only ever exist as an example of what should never, never be regarded as 'metal'.
Just my opinion, feel free to flame me. My foot's fvcking bleeding atm, so i cba to phrase it more pc.

well in my opinion they did a god thing. Of course it sucks that they don't play at the festival at all, but you gotta have some respect for yourself, and stand up for your rights. If it was agreed that they'll play at 3rd slot, so they (the organizers) can't just put them down to 4th, or to second stage, and expect that everything is ok.
And the idea of "playing the show anyway, and bashing the organizers while doing so" is even more lame than playing it on 4th spot and being quiet about it. If you don't like being there just don't play, and if you agree to make a show, just do it and keep your mouth shut

Yeah, how dare they book a band like Limp Bizkit! It's not like Machine Head over used rapping vocals! Oh wait...
This to me just seems pathetic.
