The Gathering has announced that their 9th studio album, "The West Pole," will be released in April 2009. Produced by René Rutten, the album features nine songs with two guest female vocalists and other mystery guest musicians. This is also their first album featuring their new female singer, who is yet to be revealed. The album will be released through the band’s own label, Psychonaut Records.

Drummer Hans Rutten describes the album’s sound as "A very extrovert, rock orientated, alive album. Typical the Gathering, but with many new elements. This time it's absolutely guitar driven."
