Unearth Begins Recording New Album
Unearth has entered the studio to begin recording their new album. Here's an update from the band:
"HEAVY METAL SHRED MAYHEM! NOW WITH 50% MORE GUITAR SOLOS!! If the new Unearth songs were laundry detergent then this is what it would say on the box," according to Buz. "Fortunately for all you metal maniacs, it's not laundry soap but a mind-blowing journey consisting of epic mosh and shred, so we had to call in the one man who could wrangle such a massive beast - Adam Dutkiewicz. We are very excited to be working with him again and between 40 oz. chugging and doing burn-outs in Ken's '82 Corvette, we are recording what will definitely be the best album of our career."
A "teaser" look at the band working in the studio can be viewed on their MySpace page. Additional looks at the recording of the album, including fly-on-the-wall video footage, riffs and excerpts of new music will be made available in the coming weeks.

To me Unearth is the top of the metalcore genre, but this is exactly what got me sick of listening to Unearth and Himsa for a while - the in your face screaming. Now I just take them in smaller doses. But what's the alternative? If they starting singing and filling their songs with clean vocals, it would definitely NOT be a step in the right direction either.

They could always put some variation in the vocals in a different way other than the clean/scream comparison. Differentiate between highs and lows, grows, shrieks, screams, shouts. Hell, even if they want to do some clean style vocals, I'm sure Unearth's singer is talented enough to attempt some old school clean thrash vocals. Not the same way certain other once-metalcore-now metallica rip off artists have done, but in their own way and Unearth style.

They shouldn't start to sing more because Unearths front man said that there was too much signing in heavy metal nowadays, this was on an interview with Al jourgensen and a stupid chick from Kittie. the b**** said that there was not enough signing in metal and Al said no there is too much signing and then Unearth singer agreed with Al, so if he start putting clean sh** in there you can scream sellout

The slayer fans were tough and buff that day at the revolution in fort lauderdale. I think unearth had taken the seen by storm and they had a great opening for slayer, but I feel like they almost stole the show at first. As much as I enjoyed their sound, there was only one little circle pit that died. It is because Unearth is p***ed off in most of their songs, they get happy and make the hair stand up on theback of their fans necks with their solos, get p***ed off gain and really p***ed to the point where you want to kick the guy next to you, and be happy at the and say i'm sorry for doing that. When Slayer came on I heard trumpets, and then they completely annihilated the scene because they don't get happy. Their always p***ed off. An from there out the mosh pit grew and grew and ambulances came to take them away afterthey had annihilatedeach other, security guards were kicking people out. If there are clean cut vocals you certaintly will not see unearth touring with bands like slayer again. If you want to be metal you have to scream like slayer, if you want to be numetal you can sing like killswitch engageand snd bands like disturbed and ankla are going in that direction. I have a feeling that more numetal is going to be played and turned into mainstream alternative rock. eventually too muchof this isgoing on and metal fans will catch hold of it. Ipersonall liked the original killswitch engage, but now it's time to say goodnight. the screaming vocals and being sinister is what makes it metal, don't sing please this is not american idol. Unearth don't go to bed like for the money like killswitch engage please.

I believe Adam D produced Oncoming Storm and didn't do the last album, not that that has a huge influence, but it is something interesting worth pointing out.
Deathbringer, I don't really know what the alternative to a full on barrage is, other than to maybe have longer moments of instruments playing, and letting the music doing the talking. I do think that Trevor does have more range than he would lead on. Even if they tried using dynamics with vocals to change things up it might help. This would be more of a general metal trend because a lot of vocal deliveries are starting to run the same these days.
I am sounding more like a prog fan than a trash fan, but oh well, I like Opeth, and I like Unearth.

I agree with most of you - Unearth needs to keep the harsh vocals...it works great for Lamb of God.
They also need to get back with Adam D. to help them produce this new album, but again, keep away from the over-use of clean vocals...it just kills the flow of the music, when over-used. The twin-guitar attack is always impressive..and like I said b4, I was floored when I first heard the Oncoming Storm. Unearth is going to crush everyone this year...2008!

Yeah Mastodon really altered their vocals in Blood Mountain, and it seemed to work well. Compare the vocals from that album compared to Remission - and hopefully you can see the difference. I agree - Unearth needs to keep the harsh vocals - but change how they sing...if that makes sense? No clean vocals, though...please.

Unearth should just stick to being UNEARTH!!! No clean vocals......thats not them(except for a couple occasions on "the oncoming storm"). Just look at KSE, they have way to much clean singing
and same with All that remains last album......which I believe was produced by adam d as well.
Don't let the fans down by going the way of KSE!!!

^Meh, I think KsE is great at what they do. They've had a sound aimed more towards the masses at least since Alive or Just Breathing (not too familiar with the first album), whether it was intentional or not. What many people dislike about them is exactly what I like about them: they make catchy, accessible music. While it is definitely more commercial and not as heavy as, say, The Absence or Through the Eyes of the Dead (Malice especially), it's still pretty damn good for what it is. Kinda like your favorite quick microwave food versus a grilled steak, or a nice tossed salad for all you vegans out there ;)
But it's true that Unearth probably, no, definitely, shouldn't go the way of KsE.

I love these guys. Not sure exactly why they are so awesome to me, but damn is there stuff fun to listen to. I just hope they can push the envelope a little bit. Sometimes it gets a little old when every song comes screaming out the gate for 4 minutes. Adam D producing probably means that the album will be overkill produced, but I'll still enjoy it.
I'm excited.
