Warner Music Group Pulls Full Songs From Last.fm

Warner Music Group has pulled all full tracks from their artists from Last.fm. The move came after Last.fm’s parent company, CBS, was unwilling to give WMG a percentage of the sites advertising revenue. Thirty second clips of WMG artists are still available on Last.fm.

It sounds like politics to me - all about who owns the parent company and that they are making money off the site. Last.fm is great for artists. I don't think labels (or most bands) have really embraced it and taken advantage of it like MySpace yet though.

Slug, you could send them an email and have others do the same. If they still keep the tunes off then you can say atleast you tried. Just a suggestion.

i wonder what wmg artists feel about having their songs pulled, it always makes me laugh when labels bang on about how artists lose money, when we all know its really about them losing money.

Deathbringer, I couldn't agree with you more. I've been using Last.Fm more and more recently, and the potential is there. It definitely hasn't been embraced. That said, music labels have had their head up their a$$ for a long time. I think labels are frantic about what social media has the ability to do by completely bypassing a label altogether. As sites like Last.Fm become more prominent and more understood by bands, all musical acts will need is a manager to help them get gigs. That isn't going to happen right away, but it will eventually happen.
