Concert Sales Slump in 2007
TuneLab Music reports: High-priced reunion tours by The Police, Van Halen and Genesis failed to prevent the North American concert industry from posting its worst year since 2004, according to a music industry trade publication. The top 20 tours generated $996 million, down 15.6 percent from the year before, according to Pollstar. The previous low was $951.1 million in 2004, when Prince and Madonna topped the box office.
However, 2007 kicked off as an amazing year for metal tours in the US and the tours seemed solid throughout, so I'm not too concerned about the overall trend.

I agree with branded, all the good bands that SHOULD be touring are to busy in contract disputes, lineup changes, members dieing or starting crap-ass side projects, or the whole band breaking up all together. That goes for more than just the metal scene too. Generally when the industry goes through chaotic streaks like this, where record companies are just trying to grab up whatever trend or sound is most popular just to stay ahead, it usually ends up with a new rock genre coming out and becoming a revolution. At least I hope that will be the case again...

ty to the 2 who didnt flame me. i was only stating that if the huge bands were touring then the article wouldnt have been made. obviously, the crappy a$$ bands that are touring are not getting the amount of fans they "expected". well, make better music, and then maybe you will have bigger crowds at your concerts. thats what i was meaning..
there are so many bands now, that 99% are just trendy wannabe rockbands!!
in the words of the hardcore band irate in the song vendetta:
"your music it makes me sick, it sounds like some fa**ots gagging on korns d1ck"
and that is how about 90% of the music bands out there are sounding like.

Well when you look at a global stat like this - "concert sales in the US" - the little tours hardly make a difference. It boils down to: did Ozzfest not make as much this year being free (or not count the same if the stat is only counting ticket sales) and did some particular high-sales pop bands not tour or fare well. If U2, The Eagles and Dave Matthews didn't tour this year, then the stats are pretty much screwed. Then take into account how many of the top females have been in jail, court or rehab this past year (at least Brittney and Amy Winehouse, and I'm sure others I failed to commit to memory because I don't really care)... Of course the concert sales were off. But like I said, it was a great year for metal tours anyway.

Now if only metal tours will start hitting up those lesser traveled cities.
