Kerry King Does Absinthe To Understand Manson

Kerry King does absinthe to understand co-headliner
Peter Atkinson of KNAC.COM recently conducted an interview with SLAYER guitarist Kerry King. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
KNAC.COM: Are you looking forward to the tour with Manson or is this one of those deals where it's like, "What might we be getting ourselves into?"
King: I was kind of like that, but we met Manson before we came out here and we did the Revolver shoot and interview and since then we played a festival together and I took one of those rare opportunities, I don't usually drink before we go on, but I went over and did a shot of absinthe with him. And then I got a better vibe about him. It's more like I think he knows what he's gotten himself into — and I don't say that in a disrespectful manner — but let's face it, he could come out and play music that just makes everybody leave, at least everyone who came to see us, or he can play music that they are into as well. And I kinda got the vibe that that's what he was going to do. That's the wild card, so we'll just see.
KNAC.COM: He very well could come out dressed like a chick and play a lot of his mellower newer stuff?
King: That he could. He's definitely an unpredictable guy and who knows what his mindset's gonna be when the tour's ready to start. I guess we won't know for sure 'til opening night. If that's the way he ends up going, it could be a pretty brutal few weeks. But, again, that's not the impression I had after we'd met up.
KNAC.COM: If you guys had teamed up during his "Antichrist Superstar" phase, that really would have been something to see.
King: That would have been the tour of tours, for sure. I threw out a request to him when we did the interview and he said he was gonna do some of it, so we'll see what happens.
KNAC.COM: You mentioned how your fans might react to Manson, do you remember the last time any of your warm-up bands really got the "Slay-er, Slay-er" treatment.
King: I honestly don't know because I can't go out and watch people as much as I used to because I'll either be doing press or warming up. That's a tough one, I don't have an answer for you. I think bands know they've got their work cut out for them when they tour with us and that they better bring their A-game. Maybe that's been working for them, because I haven't noticed anyone really getting brutalized by our fans in a while.

I haven't seen Slayer LIVE yet but by the way they seem to talk (Kerry especially) I think they have way too big of egos... I know they've been around for a long time and yea they're pretty much the kings of thrash. BUt if their fans are that closed minded that they'd just say "f*uck every other band, I'm just here for Slayer" than they need to open their minds a bit and take a listen to some other sh*t! I love all types of metal from Black Metal, Metalcore, Thrash and even certain Nu-Metal! Hell I even listen to some Country like Hank III, U gotta have variety otherwise life is just boring!

I think the only Slayer member who talks like that is Kerry I don't really know about the others. I have seen them twice. The first at Unholy Alliance last summer with Bodom, LoG, Thine Eyes Bleed and Mastodon and then again with Thine Eyes Bleed and Unearth and neither of those times did the fans hate the other bands. I mean hell people were going crazy for Unearth.

Either way I guess I still gotta see them LIVE one day! and Unearth...well that's a whole other story, I've seen 'em twice and they disappointed twice...but I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt this last time 'cause of the whole drummer thing...it was his last or second last show, and they lickd balls!! BIG TIME... Anyone can make a CD with Technology these days, but if you can't perform it LIVE for the fans then what good are you! Just my opinion, yell at me if you want

Ya i agree, its usually Kerry King running his mouth, but thats the way the man is, im sure one day hell talk sh** about the wrong band and get his cards handed to him. The landscape has changed so people are more tolerant to bands that come on before slayer, it wasnt like that in the past.

Hey J.x, I'm gonna have to take advantage of your given permission to yell at you. I SAW UNEARTH AT OZZFEST LAST YEAR, THEY f***IN KICKED ASS, ON RIGHT BEFORE ATREYU TOO, WAY TO MAKE THEM LOOK LIKE COMPLETE sh**. SAW THEM EARLIER THIS YEAR (with slayer actually)AND THEY KICKED a$$ AS WELL. Enough yelling now. They sound kick a$$ on the CDs(except thier first one) and they're f***in kick a$$ live. The only explanation I will make for you is that they were probably more drunk drunk those 2 shows and were f***ing around and going crazy more than usual.

Since Manson came out with his new record (Eat Me Drink Me)it sounds like Manson is losing his vibe. I listen to Slayer's Christ Illusion, and let me tell you they still got it.Now if Manson Sung his old tunes for this tour there might less negativity against Manson.I mean face it, If Marilyn will go back too his Antichrist Superstar image for the rest of this tour,I'm sure everthing will be fine.

Personally, I think we should all just embrace the fact that it is SOME form of alternative music...It kinda makes me sad that I see everyone saying that sucks and he sucks...I mean come on, if you there to see a band that you like, just wait for them to come on, and watch the opening act, or just go grab a beer...You know it's metal 'posers' who give metal a bad name, not bands

I listened to Manson when i was like 12, until i discovered actually hardcore bullsh**, so i guess i could stand him if he plays his old stuff. none of that "Tainted love" crap. i just started listening to Slayer like a few months ago though, and I gotta admit, they're pretty goddamned good. So i'm gonna go just to mosh like a f***ing a$$hole to Slayer, and then do it again to teach the Manson fans a lesson after i get drunk as f***. Like I said, I can stand MM, but there are SO MANY p***ies out here that listen to him. Someone has to beat the queer out of them, it might as well be me.

17. writes:
This guy's right, someone should just beat the sh** out of manson. He'll probably play the sh** off his new album seeing as this tour will in support of it. I'd get a krew together and go stomp his a$$ but I'd actually rather not even touch him, or go near that goat throater all together.

I LOVE BOTH MANSON, AND SLAYER, MANSON HAS SAID ALOT OF GOOD POINTS IN THE PAST ON HIS MUSIC AND SLAYER IS GOING TO BE GREAT TOO, I MEAN THEY ARE LIKE ONE OF THE OLD SCHOOL THRASH LEGENDS FROM WAY BACK I REMEMBER LISTENING TO SOUTH OF HEAVEN AND I WAS LIKE OH sh** THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!!! OH MAN THE WORLD IS GOING TO END AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BACK IN THE DAY. AND I REMEMBER MANSON WHEN HE FIRST CAME OUT AND I WAS LIKE AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THE WORLD IS GOING TO END HAHAHHAHAH!!!!!! IT WAS LIKE THE SAME REACTION ONLY LIKE YEARS APART, SO THEY BOTH HAVE HAD A IMPACT ON ME EVEN IF KERRY KING AND MANSON DONT LIKE EACHOTHER WELL THAT'S ALRIGHT ITS NOT FOR POPULARITY ANYWAY IT'S BUSINESS, I M GOING TO SEE THEM IN AUGUST.

Maybe the bands that have been opening for you, Kerry, are just plain kicking Slayers' ass. Sorry, but I have not been impressed with Slayer since Dave took back the throne.
