MCR Axeman Says Cooper Was Originator, Not Manson

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE guitarist Frank Iero has responded to claims by Marilyn Manson that the New Jersey emo titans are mere copycats.

Manson previously blasted MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, saying he was embarrassed because "these people are doing a really sad, pitiful, shallow version of what I've done."

Speaking exclusively to Kerrang! magazine, guitarist Frank Iero answered back to Manson's taunting.

"We're Marilyn Manson fans," said Iero. "I think he's really cool. The funny thing is that he seems to have lashed out at us about the make-up. That's weird to me, because I had heard of Alice Cooper before I heard of Marilyn Manson. I don't know how he could be mad at us. We never came out and said we were going to call ourselves by girl's name and then a serial killer's name.

"I'm really sorry if he feels we ripped him off," he added. "It would have been nice if he could have said something to our faces but he's been all smiles every time I've seen him. Maybe he's doing it for the press. Some people just like to talk..."

MCR shouldnt be talkin back like alice cooper was the legend, yes mr.cooper started the make-up thing but manson enforced anger and hate plus truth above most other things his done Manson isnt doin this for publicity, he has his reasons for his hatred for MCR. Manson is not ding this for press, h's doing it for what he believes in and all people who Manson is would know that manson doesnt giva f*** bout the publicity he gets, he cares about his music and if little emo kids wanna still spotlight they were never in than Manson will say something and do it his way.

Well it's true that Alice Cooper was the first to dwelve into the horror rock thing but Manson is quite a media genius. He knows exactly what to do to make us and the media talk about him and he is quite brilliant at repeling the attacks that the mainstream media will throw at him. He is quite literate and very very agile in marketing. I don't like Marylin Manson but I am honest enough to admit that he is pretty much one of the best guys around to self publicise himself...

Check this out. I've tried to compile a list of shxt about Marilyn Manson's career, starting with the fact that he DID name himself after a serial killer and a supermodel.

Okay, then, he wrote a whole album about drug use. (Portrait)

Then he appeared butt-ass naked and smeared in makeup. (Lunchbox EP)

Then he released an EP with song titles with the words "n1gger" and "c0cksucker" in them. (Smells Like Children)

Then he released an album with a ridiculous title, and frightening artwork (Antichrist Superstar)

Then he remixed that album. An offense all in itself. (Remix & Repent)

Then he put on a f***ing rubber alien suit with plastic tits and released a radio-friendly album (Mechanical Animals)

Obligatory Live album (Last Tour On Earth)

Album cover with him dressed as jesus with his jaw torn off, writing songs about Columbine (HolyWood)

Lame, pointless, wannabe return to shock roots, uses "sh**" in the title of the opening song. (Golden Age)

Obligatory greatest hits titled to signify biblical roots (Lest We Forget)

Lame cheap sorry-assed comeback to get back at ex-girlfriends. (Whatever the f*** that stupid album is called)

All in all, Manson has tried his damnedest to stay relevant through, 1) Scaring parents, as previously stated.

2) Being overly-vulgar

3)Wearing smeared makeup and ridiculous pantyhose/thongs

4)Trying to make 12-17 year olds want to fxck him.

As far as I'm concerned, Manson doesn't even deserve to be famous anymore. We're growing up, and there's no reason to shxt on a new generation just because you're mad over your irrelevance. He can't find footing on a new gimmick, and the band that made him famous has all but abandoned him. And honestly, who wouldn't have by now? Do all the drugs you want. Wear all the lipstick you want. Wear whatever goofy contacts you can get your hands on. It doesn't matter anymore. There was a time when a tall, lanky, freak would turn heads. Especially if he had fxcked-up make up on, and sucked some guys c0ck onstage. (It's true...read his book.)

Truth is, with declining record sales, his fans growing up, parents desensitized, and having to put him with SLAYER to get him in front of people again, he's hurting for press. And who wouldn't attack a band like MCR with their younger generation of fans, and their ridiculously staggering record sales and tours? I can't blame him on one hand, but on the other hand, I think he's full of shxt. It's kind of sad, really, to see someone who admits, once again in his book, that he's tired of the establishment (or other generic rebellious term) and he's out to destroy the industry or whatever. His new contract probably has him on pins and needles and it's time for him to walk away from all the absinthe and all that bullshxt, and maybe realizing that he never was that good of a musician to begin with. It was his image that made him famous, and now that nobody cares about that anymore, he's lashing out at who he's jealous of.

Cheers to Manson, though, for picking up where Alice Cooper left off.

And cheers to MCR for picking up where Manson left off!

Anyone realize that the people that grew up with Marilyn Manson now have kids that are listening to MCR? It's kinda funny how that works out. Well, not to Manson.

@ #9
you have your facts wrong

"Okay, then, he wrote a whole album about drug use."

Only maybe two or three songs on Portrait are about drug use. If you can tie Get Your Gunn, Cake & Sodomy, Lunchbox and Organ Grinder to drug use, I'll be impressed.

"Album cover with him dressed as jesus with his jaw torn off, writing songs about Columbine"

Once again, but this time I believe it was only one song directly about Columbine.

"And cheers to MCR for picking up where Manson left off!"

But MCR have nowhere near the same atmosphere Manson did. Sorry, but bloody cheerleaders in a photo shoot doesn't equal what Manson did during 1992-1997.

It is a completely different ball park when it comes to David Bowie/Alice Cooper vs. Manson/MCR. Bowie and Cooper made their mark to audiences WITHOUT the help of MTV. Manson and MCR are only alive today because they have an easy access to their demographic (young teenagers and hot topic people). I am not a fan of Bowie, Cooper, Manson, or MCR so I have a wide eyed view of this subject.

My opinion is that Manson rode the "shock rock wave" with intent to capitalize on his market, and he did. MCR are riding the new "emo crazy" train with intent to capitalize on their market, and they are. If you all want to start pointing fingers, be careful because almost every band has, or can have a finger pointed at them for "ripping off" someone else.

MCR still sucks, no matter who inspired them...Or who they ripped off...

And when you really think of it, MCR is a ripoff of Manson is a ripoff of Alice Cooper....

As a creative culture, we're going dry. Everything is ripping off of someone else no matter what now. After everyone is tired of each other, its gonna be a dark age again, and then some centuries later, someone will go where we left off, and it will be another renaissance compiled and inspired by artists from this era, and then mixed again with artists of the renaissance before us...I'm dead serious....

I'm sorry but haven't they gone from so called punk to stealing T- Rex riffs since the last album?
