Opeth Frontman Updates On DVD and New Album

Mainman Mikael Ã…kerfeldt has issued the following update on a new DVD and the new album:

"Just a quick note to fill you (if you care) in on what's cooking and stuff....like that.....

"Roundhouse/U.K. gig DVD: Well, the music is mixed and it sounds nothing less than awesome I must say. The film material is also edited and it looks great too! We went through a lot of fan interviews as well which was hilarious. Most of the interview material that was shot is going to be used, although there were severe audio problems with some and those can't be used for that reason. I was struck by how drunk all of you fuckers were... great!! I felt like partying myself watching it! All I can say is, it will be pretty good all in all... pretty fucking good indeed. Release date? Don't know right now, I guess late spring.

"Next OPETH LP: I'm writing and it's going quite well. I have around a dozen of song ideas. Some are downright evil sounding....a few BATHORY (evil era '83-'87) parts, some tech-death ones, some overblown prog ballad ones, one Nick Drake thing, one complete prog thing with triple harmony vocals, one evocative Middle Eastern psychedelic metal arrangement with falsetto vocals (not as wimpy sounding as you might think), one '70s SCORPIONS sounding bit (like 'Living and Dying' type of stuff), one's totally murky forest-ish sounding dark prog-rock with loud vocals that shifts between major and minor, one tedious ugly/pretty little hobbit sounding symf part with moogs over a classical guitar, some soundtrack-ish sounding ones etc...

"Yes, it's business as usual....

"I don't know when or where we'll record but I guess late this year. I want to make sure it....rocks....somewhat!"

Directionless seems key for a good Opeth album, otherwise we'd end up with an album that sounded all the same. And that's just not Opeth.

damn I wish the album wasn't so far off, Opeth is an awesome band!!!! one thing I don't get about the fans though, when I talk to people they're all like "OPETH IS THE sh**!!!! I love Opeth!!" I've been to two of their shows and both times the fans have completely opposite reactions, instead they always say "opeth sucks, damn I hate them"
so weird

but still I love opeth, I think they have one of the best metal singers, very versatile, he doesn't do his lows too much but holy sh** they're good.

I find it funny how he thinks no one gives a sh** about them, at gigantour he was all like "yeah we're doing this next song in swedish, in case you didn't know what swedish is, its a language which is from our homeland Sweden. Its in Europe. most of you will hate this song, but I don't give a sh**, we're not hear for your approval we're here for the money, you can come up to me after the show and say you loved our show, well I don't give a sh**, we just make music cause its easy and brings us a ton of money."
it was funny at the time.

whatever Can't f***ing wait for the new album

When I saw them in NYC before Gigantour Mikael was talking about how he ate the "Angus Burger" from Burger King for the first time. I always pictured all the guys from Opeth walking into a Burger King in Manhattan and the person behind the counter saying "Welcome to Burger King may I take your order?" That whole scene must have been bizarre. I wonder which type of vocal style he used to order.
