Coming off a 24-date, SRO North American headlining tour and their first-ever Grammy win, thrash icons SLAYER will head off to Australia for their first tour there in five years. The six dates will begin on April 12 in Perth, and will take the band to the country's major markets - Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, with the April 21 closing date in Auckland, New Zealand. The critically-acclaimed, Grammy-nominated band Mastodon will be special guests on all dates.

Earlier this month, Slayer was awarded the Grammy for the track "Eyes of the Insane" in the category of Best Metal Performance. "Eyes of the Insane" is on the band's most recent album, "Christ Illusion," which was released on August 8, 2006 and became the band's highest-ever chart debut, coming in at #5 on Billboard's Top 200 in the U.S. "Christ Illusion" was also a top 10 album internationally in its first week.

After the Australian dates, Slayer will play the major European festivals over the summer. That itinerary will be announced shortly.

Slayer's Australian tour dates are as follows:

April 12 Metro City , Perth, Australia
April 14 Thebarton Theatre , Adelaide, Australia
April 15 Vodafone Arena , Melbourne, Australia
April 17 Hordern Pavilion , Sydney, Australia
April 19 Riverstage , Brisbane, Australia
April 21 St. James Theatre , Auckland, NZ

Thrash/punk icons? I buy thrash but this article has a skewed idea of what punk is. Albeit they are closer to punk than say Audioslave...

ALL of their releases say that. I usually remove the punk reference, but I missed it this time (but removed it now). They do one punk-tribute album and they get labelled punk...? I don't get it either.

to post 1 + 2 they r labeled punk because the song structures on Reign in Blood resembled hardcore/punk as opposed to thrash or heavy metal

IF YOUR A METALHEAD, YOU SHOULD LIKE SLAYER HATEBREED, I DON'T USUALLY CARE ABOUT VOCALS, BUT, YOU SHOULD AT LEAST LIKE THE GUITAR WORK, ME I'M A MAJOR SLAYER FAN, BUT MAYBE I CAN UNDERSTAND YOU HATEBREED, BUT TO ME SLAYER, IS ONE OF THE TOP METAL BANDS, AND I DON'T THINK YOU SHOULD BE DISREPECTING THEM, NOW IF YOU WROTE SOMETHING LIKE MACHINE MAN, THAT WOULD BE DIFFERENT, HE'S AN A**HOLE, BUT MAYBE I CAN UNDERSTAND YOU, BUT PLEASE IN MY PRESENCE TRY NOT DISREPECTING SLAYER, ONE OF THE BEST BANDS IN THE WORLD
