Slipknot To Take A Break In 2006

Slipknot are hanging up their masks in the New Year to take a temporary break, so frontman Corey Taylor can concentrate on his side project Stone Sour.
After spending 2005 touring the world promoting album Vol 3: The Subliminal Verses, Taylor is looking forward to the change -- particularly as his second band allows him to be more flexible, according to ContactMusic.
He says, "As diverse as Slipknot is, there's a whole diversity in Stone Sour that I can't do with Slipknot.
"That's important to me - I need both of those worlds."
Stone Sour have already enlisted the talents of producer Nick Rasculinecz (Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver) for their upcoming sophomore album. The band will work at Dave Grohl's studio in Los Angeles beginning January 25. More than 30 demos were written for the LP, which is due in June.
In other Slipknot news, Toazted.com -- the website with the world's largest collection of MP3 interviews online -- has awarded Slipknot for being the most downloaded artist of 2005.
Over a 100,000 fans downloaded the "Subliminal Verses" interview to hear front man Corey Taylor talking about their sold out tour and the upcoming recording of Taylor's famous side project Stone Sour.
Slipknot won Toazted honors in two categories. One, being Toazted's Most Popular Heavy Metal Band Of 2005 leaving Rammstein, System of a Down and metal gods Metallica behind and Two, being Toazted's Most Popular Act Of 2005 leaving bands like Coldplay, Greenday and Franz Ferdinand in the dust.
This is the first year the website is honoring the winners with the Toazted Award. The "Most Wanted" Award was presented to Corey Taylor in New York City at the Nokia theatre on December 15.

Yes Slipknot is nu-metal not Metal, Heavy Metal, Death MEtal non of that and there just loud noise with yelling, the music writing is so f***in simple its sad the guitarist in the band must be ashamed of them selves, the bass sucks, and joey (drummer) is the only talented one in the band even at that there still tons of better drummers, and the vocals are bad and there tons of better and angerier vocals like death, black, hardcore. IF u want some reall Heavy music with talent / non understandable lyrics that arent just loud noise scope out Napalm Death, Visceral Bleeding, Nile (all there have real good drummers in my opinion) if u took away slipknots high distorted noise and vocals they would be light as sh** i mean what the music do like half of the other members in the band do. Oh, wow. Every single time some Slipknot topic comes up, they get bashed to hell and back. Who would've thought. What's worse, most of this bashing (and slight praising) is hardly ever backed up with actual grammar to such an extent that I (or others) want to keep reading. I may not be perfect in that regard, but dammit... if you're gonna present an arguement, make it good. Is it even possible for just one person to not use the caps lock to present their entire shouting session or for some to not relate a person's vocal or intrument skills to a steaming pile of crap? Jeez guys.....
Secondly, yes I like Slipknot. A ton. I've been following them since their small ad is Metal Edge wayyyyy back in the day. Sure things have changed, but their intensity has not. Quite frankly, it's gotten stronger. When one has to actually *fight* for their own safety in a Hatebreed/Slipknot pit under the hot Virginia pit, you know a good show is being put on. People don't get that damn violent and crazy at a live show when the music sucks. Catch my drift? The direction their sound was going in has changed, but the quality hasn't. Well, of course..... that's entirely different for each person that hears it, but Slipknot is hardly "s--t." There's a lot worse out there... *coughcrazytowncough*. (that's just me.. I'm not being hypocritical, just attempting to be funny. :-P)
Can't you quit this whole "nu-metal" fight, already? Metal is metal and heavy music is heavy music. Sometimes it clicks with you and sometimes it doesn't. In case you haven't noticed, the bands don't give a crap when they're on stage. (Gwar aside, who makes fun of everyone and everything under the sun) All the bands just do their thing. I've been to my share of shows and concerts and quite frankly, the only thing to down-and-out beat the brutality that was the Devildriver/Machine Head show I caught was the Hatebreed/Slipknot set. C'mon... DD and MH. Something's gotta be said when those 2 bands alone can be ousted by a set of guys wearing masks.
Touching upon that subject, does anyone remember what Corey said back in the day when asked about the masks? Without quoting him, he basically said that everyone wears masks. As soon as they wake up and can percieve the real world, they put on a mask that lets them extend a part of or a type of personality they want others to see. It's the same with Slipknot. They put on the masks and through that, they extend a part of their musical selves. They can just get on stage and do their thing, without having to worry about how the real "them" might appear to everyone else. We're all like that, we all worry about how others percieve us. Some more and some less than others. It's their own thing. To each their own.
Why do you listen to what you listen to? *Because you hear the difference.* That was presented to me once and that's absolutely true. In no way does that mean your tastes are superior to another's.
Slipknot sold out? Slipknot's talentless? Slipknot's a bunch of posers? Goddamn... I hate to be this rude, but haven't you realized your incessant whining is doing nothing and going nowhere fast? Slipknot has consistantly pushed the envelope and managed to bring metal back to the masses, like it or not. "Talentless" doesn't fill clubs and small venues up to the point of bursting. If "selling out" means trying something different, then so be it. I'll "sell out" if it means being diverse in my life. Diversity is the spice of life, after all. And the "poser" thing.... that's almost sickening. Could you, for just one minute, stop worrying about how others and yourself look and just enjoy music for what it is? It's that expectant nature of yours that brings so much f***ing conflict to a group of people.
Tell you (who think they're talentless) what. You start a band. You get worldly famous with your first major release. You get people to wait outside a club to see you, in the middle of January in a cold, violent city. You develop your musical skills while staying just as intense as you were at the start. You see how things change. As you grow, so will your music. As you change, so will your music and you'll be in the same position as Slipknot is. At least they're pushing on, unlike so many bands that just outright disappear.
What more can I say? Probably nothing, as I know what I just said will be over-analyzed and each and every letter will be picked apart with the finest of tweezers. Go at it, if you will. Just please... please, for the love of god, make reading all this arguing, flaming and defending worth reading.

Yo, 36. Lemme just start out by saying that I am not an "intellectual" by any means. To be blunt, I can be pretty f----ing stupid at times. I am, after all, male. :-P I don't go to college, I went to a tech school after high school for a year and I've been working various jobs ever since. Stupid is fun, too. I'm just that passionate about the music I listen to, as it's that music that help to keep me going in life.
You did say one thing I don't like and please, this is not a testament against your likes and dislikes.... but I absolutely abhoor (is that how it's spelled?) Metallica. I was a huge fan once, I even dug Load and Reload. However... when they (the band) kickstarted this whole "hey, people are downloading our music and we're not living fabulous lives anymore, just semi-fabulous live" thing, I got a little angry. Why? Because they became some of the biggest hypocrites in the world. Did you know that Metallica used to have spots in their concerts where you could stand and *RECORD* the entire show if you had a tape recorder? I bet you didn't. Why did they do this? The same reason why they actually let and encouraged people to trade bootlegs like that over their official fan club. They *wanted* people to hear their sound. They *wanted* people who couldn't get their hands on the rare stuff or who couldn't go to their concerts to hear what it was all about. Now they're all about "blah blah blah $$$$$$$$$$$$ blah blah blah we own the songs blah blah blah."
Like I said.... incredibly hypocritical. Not like what I say will make any difference in the grand scheme of things, but now you know. And knowing is half the battle. :-P
I personally think you're kinda right, it kinda does boil down to getting tired of the same riffs... but if you've really listened to Corey's singing ever since day 1, you would've noticed that he has some serious skills. He puts a crapload of emotion into what he does, it was only a matter of time until he did a couple of lighter songs. Boo-f---ing-hoo, so what if things get softer for just a second? Everyone needs to lighten up once in a while, it seems that happened. After all... look at Stone Sour and look at Slipknot. You can say that either SS is a lighter Slipknot or Slipknot is a heavier SS. Granted that Stone Sour was formed before Slipknot, I think my idea is pretty blatant. ;-)
Anyway.. I'm glad that someone liked what I said. I'm sorry if I came off a little harsh, but I got fed up with reading all the same crap over and over again. I for one, look forward to new Stone Sour stuff. The album that was released a while ago, while very...... ?average/standard? by most respects, was also very well written. Corey has an incredible talent with the way he can use words to convey how he feels.

They insult bands that they know there's always gonna be something to bash about. I love and respect Slipknot. All the Maggots I know are some of the smartest people there are. And then some of them are the stupidest people I know. What really annoys me is the fact that some people "loved" Slipknot in the first album era. Then when they became famous and actually sold albums the same people said they sucked.
They're are many differances in sound from the S/T album to IOWA. IOWA was heavier and darker. Then Vol.3 was to show us that Slipknot wasn't just a band that could scream. But that they had musical ability. How many singers do you know can scream and keep harmony? Not many. Some try but fail. How many guitarist can trudge down and play acoustic, beautifully. Not many. Slipknot is a band of many talents. Some of the talents aren't shown to well. Paul Gray of Slipknot is one of the best bassist next to Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. Joey Jordison is one of the best drummers along with Dave Lomabrdo.
Slipknot may not be the best band out there. The truth is that there will never be a Best Band In The World. Many will have opinions on this. Oh well, that's them.
Also, what is the deal with the Nu-Metal label? Everyone that calls them Nu-Metal is just following what a journalist in a magazine calls the cross of Metal and Hardcore. Or Metalcore. What the f*** is with the labels? This is pathetic.
I'll agree that the "maggots" that hangout in malls and buy the Slipknot shoes are not real maggots at all. How many Maggots do you know can actually afford a pair of Slipknot shoes, without saving up for at least a month? Real Maggots are usually in the basement making music with second hand instruments they saw at a pawn shop. Pawn shops have some of the best deals of insruments though.

this is well and dandy, but none of this explains why myself, aswell as most TRUE metalheads i know are left unimpressed with any of this bands music. their compositions are impossibly boring, along with their riffs. not one of the members, aside from jordison, are anywhere near great at their instrument. yes i have heard the soloing in pulse of the maggots, they sound pretty much like kerry king (who is also unbelievably overrated and sloppy/lame). their just generic metalcore for young teens.
i have no problem with people liking this band, but when people even try to tell me that they're extremely talented or even good at making worth-while music, that sh** just does not fly.

Why the hell do you say TRUE metalhead? What the f*** is a TRUE metalhead? Someone who hates bands for changing their and expressing musical talent. It is very hard to come up with some song that doesn't sound like some other song. Most bands that people on this site actually like are very boring and do the same thing every song. Slipknot is a victim of that also. Slayer, whom I love respect, do alot of the same stuff. If you don't agree then you just listen to them cause their "heavy". I listen to music for the musical sense. I admit that Slipknot's guitarist do some simple things, but I know they can do better. If they would only do solos more often like in the first demo, MFKR, then they would be better. I love that album, but then you have to remember that it's hard not to repeat yourself. Stone Sour is not my thing and I would not call their music metal maybe modern

own thing I think Joey should join Satryicon or another black metal band. Shawn

Ok... this is all making me mad. I am 14 years old and I have been listening to slipknot for 5 years. They haven't always been this popular and now that they are mainstream people h8 them. I mean come on. True there guitarists aren't the best in the world but you have to respect them. I mean Kurt Cobain for instance, he was a horrible guitarist by today's standards but it was what he and Nirvana did for rock that is what I like. I don't like Slayer's music (i am not into that whole satanic thing) but i can respect it. Joey Jordisson is an awesome drummer. My friend let me borrow 9.0 and his drum solo is AMAZING. how does it make them sellouts wen they make good music and people actually love it.
because theyve gone mainstream doesnt mean theyre sellouts.
Its just a way for them to get to people.
Augment ur taste in music and don't judge all bands that are commercialized as sellouts.
sellouts would be considered bands dat were once good and changed their music in order to become commercialized.
theyre still same genre. not like some other bands dat use to be punk and now are just pop/punk once theyve gone mainstream.

Slipknot have some really god moments in a number of songs, but the rest of the song tends to let these moments down. for example, SPIT IT OUT has some pretty excellent verses, but when it comes to the chorus...might as well turn it off.

dude, you cant f***ing lose all respect for slipknot because of a few songs. you had no respect for them in the first place if you f***in diss them now. this is BS, sure vermillion 1 and 2 and like one or two other songs on Vol. 3 sucked, but still. In no way have they "sold out"... they DO need to make another album like Iowa when they get back, which they will in about a year after they all make new albums in different bands... but I have not lost any respect in Slipknot at all, they still remain one the best metal bands ever to play this type of music regardless of what you fa**ots say.
