Melodic hardcore standouts Turnstile have premiered an in-studio cover of The Stone Roses’ 1989 single “I Wanna Be Adored” for Australian radio outlet Triple J. The two-time Grammy-winning band recorded the track as part of Triple J’s long-running Like A Version series, which features artists performing live covers. During the same session, Turnstile also delivered a live rendition of their own song, “SUNSHOWER.”

Explaining the choice to cover The Stone Roses, frontman Brendan Yates said,

“I love this song. It’s one of my favorite songs of all time. It’s unconventional and simple and very just beautiful.”

Guitarist Meg Mills added, “And [it has] one of the most iconic basslines of all time. I think it’s so powerful in its simplicity.” Mills, who hails from the UK, went on to explain her longtime admiration for The Stone Roses, describing them as, “Probably the coolest of all the Manchester bands coming out at that time.”

She also noted that the cover partly serves as a tribute to the band’s late bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield, who passed away in November 2025 due to long-term respiratory issues. Yates further elaborated on Turnstile’s overall philosophy when it comes to approaching cover songs, stating:

“We’ve done covers for years. Typically, we’ve not recorded a lot of them, but we’ve done a lot of covers, different covers live, different bands. But this was a different experience ’cause we actually kind of got to actually lay it down in a studio. And it was cool. It felt good to kind of… especially when on tour and you’re playing your songs every night, to break from that and and play someone else’s.”
