Finnish Legends Waltari To Play Special Set With Full Orchestra At This Summer's Brutal Assault

The Brutal Assault music festival is announcing an event of unprecedented proportions for its upcoming edition. Finnish musical visionaries Waltari will arrive at the historic Josefov Fortress to perform an exclusive anniversary concert of their breakthrough masterpiece. Joining them on stage will be the renowned Czech ensemble, the Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague. According to the organizers, this will be one of the most technically and artistically complex and monumental performances in the festival’s 30-year history.

When Waltari released the album Yeah! Yeah! Die! Die! Death Metal Symphony in Deep C in 1995, the music world watched in disbelief. Kärtsy Hatakka and his crew did something then unthinkable—they fused crushing death metal with the massive monumentality of a symphonic orchestra and operatic vocals at a time when other artists hadn't even dreamed of such a fusion.

It wasn't just a gimmick or a cheap attempt to shock by joining two different worlds. It was a total artistic manifesto that defined a progressive approach to extreme music for decades to come and opened the doors for the entire symphonic metal genre.

This year marks exactly 30 years since this visionary work first saw the light of day. Brutal Assault will serve as the venue for the only global anniversary celebration of this musical milestone. Waltari will perform at the fortress with a special lineup assembled exclusively for this unique occasion.

To ensure the epic work resonates in absolute perfection, the musical accompaniment will be provided by the respected Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague. The combination of dense guitar riffs, heavy rhythms, and dozens of classical instruments promises an unprecedented audiovisual experience that will test the technical limits of the festival stages.

"It will be a tribute to the courage, creativity, and unbreakable spirit of a band that was never afraid to go against the grain and ignore the established rules of the music business," says Tomáš Fiala on behalf of the Brutal Assault organizing team. "From a logistical and sonic standpoint, it is a massive challenge, but we are convinced that this masterpiece absolutely deserves a celebration on such a grand scale."

Brutal Assault will take place in the Czech Republic at the Josefov Fortress during August 6-9, 2025.
