Melodic death metal supergroup The Halo Effect have dropped their rendition of W.A.S.P.’s 1984 anthem “I Wanna Be Somebody“. The track will appear on the band’s upcoming covers EP, “We Are Shadows“, which Nuclear Blast are set to release on November 21st in both vinyl and digital editions. Each song on the EP was handpicked by a different member of the group, all of whom hail from In Flames and related projects.
Guitarist Jesper Strömblad selected this particular cut and reflected on its significance:
“W.A.S.P.’s aggressive sound and eccentric stage presence has always been fun. The shock of songs like ‘I Fuck Like a Beast’ and fun anthems like ‘I Wanna Be Somebody,’ and ‘L.O.V.E. Machine,’ are powerful and heavy. Extreme and dramatic, controversial and fun, W.A.S.P.’s ‘I Wanna Be Somebody’, off their debut album, was my first introduction into the band.”
“We Are Shadows” track-list:
01 – “How The Gods Kill” (Danzig cover)
02 – “If You Were Here” (Kent cover)
03 – “I Wanna Be Somebody” (W.A.S.P. cover)
04 – “Dance With The Devil“
05 – “Shoreline“
