Trent Reznor On George Bush's Re-Election: 'It's A Sad And Shameful Day To Be An American'

Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor has commented on the re-election of President George W. Bush via posting on the group's web site. "One step closer to the end of the world," he writes. "The one-two combo of corporate greed and organized religion apparently proved too much for reason, sanity and compassion. It's a sad and shameful day to be an American."
As previously reported, Nine Inch Nails have set "With Teeth" as the title of their new album, tentatively due in March 2005. The follow-up to 1999's "The Fragile", which previously carried the working title of "Bleedthrough", is currently being mixed with Alan Moulder (The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins) and the final track listing is being discussed and determined, according to a posting at the group's official web site.
"With Teeth" was recorded in part at Sound City Studio in Van Nuys, Ca., and features a guest appearance on drums by former NIRVANA drummer/current Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl.

f*** Trent Reznor and all the self-righteous idiots who make themselves the underdogs of "reason" (sanity and compassion, blah blah), fighting a losing battle against all of the world evils (which of course represent the entirety of the side in which they disagree with), thereby insulting anyone who has a slightly different opinion from themselves.
As I've heard many people say to this type of statement, we - the people (not just Americans) - have more in common than not, despite who each individual voted for. To be so polar to make such self-righteous claims only hurts your own credibility. How can you be for the side of "reason, sanity and compassion" when you summarily categorize the majority of a nation for their choice in what amounts to choice of the lesser of two evils? It's a sad and shameful WEEK to be an American and have to listen to this stereotyping, generalizing, denigrating crap from those sore losers who have nothing left but to lash out.
"The sky is falling, the sky is falling."
meh.

yeah, the skull and bones connection to almost every
president we've ever had is odd. i suppose all it means
is that they attend the same university! so what, if you
need someone to blame on how they turned out in life,
don't blame the parents, blame the stupid professer!

i knew that, you read my mind or something like that you
little f***er! I was going to post that!
anyway, yeah, maynard was at west point, but so what?
Ronald Reagan was the best president we've had, he saved all of your
a$$es more than once and other countries a$$es AND he didn't complain
about it.

He never had alzheimer's while he was in office you f***er!
He didn't even announce it until 1993, a long time after he
was out of office.
And the weapons we're looking for are from Russia, yeah,
the U.S and Russia sold weapons to each other, but these
are different ones, these were made in the mid-1990's, so if
you are looking for someone to blame, blame Clinton.
He couldn't keep his marriage together with a piece of ice,
what makes you think he was paying attention to the CIA,
FBI, and the other intelligence we had coming though on
Osama? He just ignored it and let Janet "I'm gonna fall

brad, i knew that he went to Westpoint Military Academy. despite what you might think, i'm not as narrow minded and stupid as you are.
and do you know why it's a pretty prestigious military academy?
because you get picked to go there. and why Mr.Keenan chose
to waste his time doing something with crappy benefits and

yeah clinto didnt pay attention to the cia or fbi . . . just like bush payed so much attnetion to their warnings about the war in a pdb entitled "Osama Bin Laden determined to attack america" god you douchebags need to keep up that happened in august of 2001 . . . you guys are 3 years behind . . . oh and whemn the fbi wanted to interrogate the twenty-something bin laden family members that we're n the U.S. but no bush does pay attention to so much

36. writes:
Well that raises a better question brokenwing why make a plea deal with family member who have ties with terrorists and possibly aided they're exiled son with the attack

The american political system is the biggest load of sh** ever dreamed up by hairy monkeys. The question I ask myself is why are so many people getting themselves all worked up about this election?!?! I am just f***ing happy it is over and I don't have to hear about it 24 7. I don't have anything against americans personally but their politician are evil incarnate.
Oh, I don't think Muffy can die. I have this suspition that she is the evil result of a drunken orgy involving the devil and seven retarded donkeys.

honestly now, Sean, if Bush knew that they were going to attack, he would have had told everyone, and evacuated the buildings!!!
i know to you this seems like it won't happen because you think Bush is dumb, but hell, if you knew your country was being attacked, you wouldn't sit there and let it happen, you'd do something about it, otherwise, everyone would hate you as a leader.
Bush did what he did for a reason. he had no prior knowledge of the attacks and his reaction proves it.
even if you whiny liberals can't believe he got reelected.
get over it, you got four years left and you can pick a candidate between then.
you have a better shot of winning too, being as Cheney won't pull a Gore and run for president(his health is the problem).

the bush-bin-laden connection, bush knowing of osama's intent to carry out attacks, the bin-ladens leaving the US w/o being questioned is all alluded to heavily in fahrenheit 9/11...
and fahrenheit 9/11 is a complete fabrication
anyone who decides to do a little bit of digging and fact-checking will figure this out for themselves, as michael moore was hoping his slacker hordes wouldn't do. though, he was right... *they* didn't. but there are plenty of blogs on the net with mountains of evidence debunking every conspiracy theory michael moore pointed at and his fanboys ate up. now what did you say... the truth hurts?
this is exactly why i was so disappointed in the left this election year. if bush was such a douchebag, why did moore have to lie to "prove" it? if bush was such a bad guy, why didn't the democrats pick a real alternative? if the republicans are sheep, what does saying "anyone but bush" make you? think about it.
trent... it's really too bad you jumped on the bush-hating bandwagon... but i guess all the years hanging out with marilyn "pseudo-intellectual" manson, maynard "paranoia" keenan, and your new friend zack de la loudmouth has helped put you there...
"if you want to be a non-conformist, you have to dress like us and listen to the same music we do..."
44. writes:
you gotta remember these artist (manson, maynard, trent, zack, etc.) are intellectual guys here...so you have to respect there opinions. Maybe they see sh** we don't, i'm not so sure about zack de la...whatever, i don't like the guy..but these artist aren't like the rest..there pretty f@#$en smart.

45. writes:
I'll grant you that they aren't stupid. But I didn't exactly say they were. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, however celebrities sometimes tend to act like their opinion is more important than others. Making people aware of an issue is one thing, and I'll give bands like System of a Down and Rage Against the Machine that. But pushing it like there's something wrong with you if you disagree? That's just being preachy, and they're just doing the same thing that the extreme right does. Alice Cooper talked about how activist artists like to push their beliefs on others, and while their opinion matters, it shouldn't matter to other people, and they shouldn't act like it's any more important than anyone else's.
Personally, I don't like Zack de la Rocha either. I don't like Rage's music, mainly because of Zack's screeching about being a left-wing zealot, condemning right-wing zealotry. I like Audioslave, though, if that says anything.
Now Marilyn Manson... I still don't know what to make of him. I used to really like him, but when I watched him dabble in that "glam"... thing... with Mechanical Animals (personally my favorite album of his)... but when it got ridiculed, he went right back to the dark, scary image he used for Antichrist Superstar... Convinced me it was all an act.
Trent on the other hand... Nine Inch Nails is, was, and probably still will be my favorite artist, even after this comment. I'm disappointed, but I'm mature enough to ignore it. However, I say that under the assumption that Trent will continue to make music that isn't preachy. Let's hope he lives up to it.
46. writes:
i'll give you that..good stuff...with marilyn manson of course it was an act...he enjoys playing with society...he is smart in the way he can push society's buttons to be heard...but i'll give you that celebrities do tend to think there opinion is more important..the thing i think is since they feel they have such an influence to the public...why wouldn't they act on it an make a statement if it will help them and there fans be heard...maybe its not always the celebrity..maybe sometimes its the fans that support them that feeds them the fuel..convinces them that not only punk but metal can have an influence on politics...as long as they don't go as far as zack went with rage..the way system looks to be heading.

I really can't believe all the "pro Bush mistakes" people there are that seem to feel the need to post here. I don't blame Trent one minute for what he said... because it's exactly what happened. Try to think about it... it may take a while to absorb but ANYONE who understands would agree. It makes me feel so powerless and angry that there are so many people who have the mentality of drunk, belligerent rednecks who have the audacity to be arrogant in a time like this! Maybe when the napalm melts your flesh you will wish you had thought about it a little more, or maybe you will just get more angry at ANYONE but Bush... after all that's what being conservative nowadays is all about right? Blind devotion? Kinda like being Christian. Regardless of who you were for, or what your beliefs are, kiss your loved ones because it's about to begin in North Korea... and you WILL BE THERE.

Common_Sense: I was going to make a big long post about how you're doing the exact same thing that the right does... but I decided to skip it. Just reread your post and if you really have "common sense" you'll figure it out. Somehow I don't think you will.
I'll reiterate, becase you obviously missed the point... Nine Inch Nails is and probably still will be my favorite musical group. My biggest concern is that Trent doesn't sh** on his beautifully crafted music with politically-driven overly-simplified drivel. "War is bayd... Peace is goood... Bush is bayd... anyone but Bush..." over one of Trent's compositions would make me puke.

Jesus is trent reznor and maynard not alowed opinions because they are as you people say 'rock stars', im sure most of you didnt jump with joy when you found out bush one so shut the f*** up, im sure maynard and trent no a hell of alot more about this situation than any of you do, not saying that i no anything about politics and war etc, but im pretty sure maynard and trent do, and as for the dude who said trent was talentless meh cant remember his name, but id like to see you match his talent you worthless little f***!!
