Metalunderground.com Official Podcast, Episode 21: Old School, New School

Band Photo: Slayer (?)
This week, our Official Podcast experienced something of a change.
As regular co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) is away in Europe, long time writer, Diamond Oz (who is ironically, from and residing in Europe) filled in for him to discuss with Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) some of the biggest stories of late.
They begin by talking about the new Cannibal Corpse material, before discussing the forthcoming Slayer tour of North America, where they will be joined by Exodus and Suidical Tendencies and then wrapping things up with an in depth discussion about the new Mastodon album, "Once More 'Round the Sun."

Another cool podcast, guys!. It was interesting to hear a different perspective (and voice) this time around. For whatever reason, I was expecting a tenor more than the baritone present in Oz's voice, although the accent was a given. :)
Got a chuckle out of the "liberation" reference... and no worries, I won't be following you in the streets.

thanks again guys! This eps was different, but fun nonetheless. Oz and I have known each other for years, but have never heard each other's voices, nonetheless met. So it was very interesting.
Carlos, I get what you mean about ST and Slayer basically coming from the same era and virtually causing an equal amount of influence in the hardcore/death metal/thrash metal scenes.
DJ, Oz' accent didn't cause any issue for me to get around, but I'm sure my accent must've been a bit troublesome for him lol

Greetings!
It was a really nice one - it worked as well. As far as the news goes, I always see Suicidal Tendencies as a crossover band. What´s interesting is their metal, their hardcore and even their funk influences are very well balanced. It never seems like they glued these aspects - of course, the Infectious Grooves are mainly funk, but ST even sometimes sort of rap in songs ("You can´t bring me down") without you calling it rap metal. Their influences are a coehesive whole. I think they fit the bill perfectly - I thinking of the hardcore influences in Slayer, something that´s not untypical of the era in which both bands started. Like Mastodon, they have also previously toured with Metallica (Nowhere Else To Roam tour, with Faith No More).
Again, this podcast was another great one - excellent hosts.
Cheers!
