Aborted Set Release Date For New Album

Belgian group Aborted has confirmed details regarding their upcoming album. The new offering, title "Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture," has been scheduled for a February 20th via Century Media Records. Recorded at Denmark's Antfarm Studios with producer/engineer Tue Madsen (Himsa, The Haunted) and features guest vocal performances by Jeff Walker (ex-Carcass) and Jacob Bredahl (Hatesphere).

Founding vocalist Sven De Caluwe comments: "Expect an album which more or less condenses what we've been doing over the last three albums, with some fresh elements added in. It's definitely a lot more extreme, with more solo mayhem than The Archaic Abattoir, while still retaining the groove and melodies we have been building on. We promise that you will not be disappointed."

Here's the "Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture" track listing:

01. The Chondrin Enigma
02. A Methodical Overture
03. Avenious
04. The Spaying Séance
05. And Carnage Basked In Its Ebullience
06. The Foul Nucleus Of Resurrection
07. Archetype
08. Ingenuity In Genocide
09. Odious Emanation
10. Prolific Murder Contrivance
11. Underneath Rorulent Soil

Aborted Part With Drummer and Bassist

Belgian death metallers ABORTED have confirmed rumors that they have parted ways with drummer Gilles Delecroix and bass player Olivia Scemama (ex-NO RETURN, BALROG).

Commented the group: "Being in a band like Aborted at this point takes a lot of investment and commitment. Right now we are not making money to support members of the band. Every tour is a financial hazard for the band which forces us to keep the small amounts of money we do make on shows to keep as backup if anything goes wrong on tour or any other situation, so that we don't have to pay the bills from our own pockets anymore. The result of this is quite simple: we can't afford to pay band members to play in this band. These conditions are simple facts and didn't work for Gilles and Olivia, which made it quite obvious they couldn't be in the band anymore. We would like to welcome Peter Goemaere, who also plays in EMETH as a replacement for Olivia. Peter already performed with the band on a show in Tel Aviv (Israel) where he replaced Olivia who cancelled few days before leaving for Israel.

The band is currently recording the new album, Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture with producer Tue Madsen at the Antfarm in Denmark. Drums on the record have been taken care of by Dave Haley from the band PSYCROPTIC and drums in the upcoming shows this and next year (until a fitting permanent replacement has been found) will be handled by Etienne Galo from the band NEGATIVA. Etienne's first show with the band will be on October 31st in Opwijk, Belgium. The band is currently taking auditions for a new drummer. Serious inquiries can be sent to aborted@telenet.be or avernusstudios@gmail.com.

The new album is scheduled to be released worldwide mid-February through Century Media Records and features several guest performances by Jeff Walker (CARCASS), Jacob Bredahl (HATESPHERE) and Henrik Jacobsen (Hatesphere).

The track listing for the effort is as follows: 'The Chondrin Enigma', 'A Methodical Overture', 'Avenious', 'The Spaying Séance', 'And Carnage Basked In Its Ebullience', 'The Foul Nucleus Of Resurrection', 'Archetype', 'Ingenuity In Genocide', 'Odious Emanation', 'Prolific Murder Contrivance', 'Underneath Rorulent Soil'.

Besides the regular 11 new tracks, the band also recorded two cover tracks for limited editions or Japanese release, [those] being 'Slaughtered' from PANTERA and 'Surprise! You're Dead' from FAITH NO MORE. The band's first official DVD, 'The Auricular Chronicles' will be released by Listenable Records on October 30th region free and NTSC format."

Aborted Forced To Drop Off Cryptopsy Tour

Belgian death metallers ABORTED have issued the following update:

Well, this tour [with CRYPTOPSY] has been quite the debacle. We had to cancel Malmo [Sweden] since the bus broke down in Denmark and we were stuck there the whole day which sucked ass. Luckily for the fans, CRYPTOPSY did make it at the last minute, and apparently they tore it up! We apologize to the fans there waiting to see us, but we only found out last minute we wouldn't make it, sucks.... Secondly, Matty [guitar] had some problems with his working situation so last minute we had to cancel our participation to the rest of the tour since he might have lost his job over this. Our boys in VISCERAL BLEEDING are taking over for the other dates and I'm sure they will do the killing in our stead. All you guys out there, no worries, we're planning a full offensive next year with the new album! Now it's time to play Stockholm, see you guys there!" More...

Aborted Give Update On New DVD And Album

Belgian death metallers Aborted have posted the following message regarding their upcoming DVD, "The Auricular Chronicles", due out on October 16th, and their new album, tentatively titled "Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture":

"Work is proceeding well on the 'The Auricular Chronicles' DVD which is set to be released by october through Listenable records. You can check a teaser for the dvd right here!!!

Artwork for this release will be in the hands of SPINA studios, who also did the last Leng Tch'e record. As stated, the dvd will contain a liveshow of an hour shot in Paris with 13 cams, sound remixed by Tue Madsen, both videoclips, backstage shenanigans, other liveshows, interviews with all bandmembers and more.

The new album... We're right in the middle of the writing process, and middle is the right word since we have half of the record written so far and things are going pretty smoothly. The follow up to 'The Archaic Abattoir' has been baptized 'Slaughter & Apparatus: A methodical overture'. This slab of gore will be recorded at the Antfarm once again with Tue Madsen & should see a worldwide release in february 2007 on Century Media records. Some songtitles so far are : 'The Chondrin Enigma', 'Prolific Murder Contrivance', 'Archetype: Malice and Scorn', 'Avenious', 'The Spaying Seance' and more. So far the material is a mixture of the last 2 records, adding a notch of brutality & diversity. Artwork will again be handled by Killustrations & should evolve around a concept, later to be revealed. Besides all these exciting things, we are most honoured & pleased to anounce that the album will feature guest appearances by no less than Jeff Walker (Carcass), Barney Greenway (Napalm Death) and some other surprises, stay tuned!!"

Aborted Part Ways With Two Members

Aborted have posted the following announcement in regards to their future plans and the departure of two members:

"A new year, a new beginning: On those notes we start off the new year, wishing everyone including all our fans the best of luck with their plans and projects for 2006. Unfortunately, we have some unpleasant news to bring as well at this point. Due to personal issues that could not be resolved, Aborted, Tace and Free had to part ways. The culmination of smaller and bigger problems in the past so and so months has made it virtually impossible to keep cooperating together as a collective unit. Tace and Free are not vanishing, they will remain active in their other projects. People will see Free in his other band "Forced Hate" and Tace has just started a new band."

"On a more positive note, we want to state that absolutely nobody out there should worry about shows getting canceled and so on. The February tour with Cryptopsy, Grave, Dew-Scented a.o., will go on as planned! Stepping in are Seb (Genital Grinder/Balrog) on guitar, Olivia (ex-No Return/Balrog) on bass and Matty (Emeth) on guitar as well since Steph could not commit him self to this tour due to his lady sitting at home pregnant, ready to give birth."

"We have already rehearsed our setlist with the new line-up several times and things are working out perfectly. The motivation and "drive" is back in the band, something that was missing since a while ago, and it feels great to be jamming out the tunes with fresh blood incorporated. Throughout the years this band has been struggling with the line-up, having more than a couple of line-up changes. However, Aborted has proven that what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, and this time it should be no exception."

"We also started working on the successor to "The Archaic Abattoir," which is set to be recorded later this year. Again we would like to thank all of those who have supported us, and we're glad you are still doing so. We will see many of you on tour in February!"

Metalunderground.com recently interviewed now-departed guitarist, Tace. You can read that interview here.

Olympic Recordings Closes Its Doors

Effective immediately, Olympic Recordings, a sub-label of the Century Family Inc. specializing in "extreme" music, will cease to exist. Century Media Records was recently contacted by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) who notified us that because they own a trademark on the word "Olympic," we would have to stop using it ourselves in order to avoid a legal battle.

A representative on the committee's behalf has informed us that the word "Olympic" is a legally protected trademark that Congress gave the USOC the exclusive right to use. Furthermore, the USOC may file a civil action suit against anyone if they, without consent of the USOC, use the Olympic trademark to induce the sale of any goods or services.

This is not the first time the USOC has contacted a business over this matter. The USOC is said to contact about 50 groups a year on average about the matter. More information can be found here.

At this time, Century Media would like to welcome Aborted, Behemoth, Immolation, Incantation, Swallow The Sun, and Vital Remains to the Century Media roster.

Aborted Updates On Upcoming US Tour, Lineup

Belgium’s Aborted are preparing for their first full North American invasion. Their new album, The Archaic Abattoir, “an epic in its own right” won the band considerable praise. Founder and vocalist Sven De Caluwe commented on the upcoming tour and line-up changes: “Things are really starting to move fast for us, and we're fully preparing ourselves for the upcoming U.S. tour with Cryptopsy, Suffocation and Despised Icon. Needless to say, we're all extremely psyched about this tour and can't wait to spread our own little brand of death-fucking-metal to all our fans. To the people who have been waiting to see us over there; the wait is over, and we'll make sure none of you will have any regrets. Some news on the band, we're also very happy with the way the new line-up is working out. Guitarist Stephane Souteyrand has been in the band since June and has been more than great. He's not only a great musician but also a very cool guy to work with, and we can't wait to start writing the next album with him by our side. See you guys in a month!”

The video for “Dead Wreckoning” will premier on MTV2’s Headbangers Ball Saturday night September 3rd. Produced by Darren Doane (Shadows Fall, Nile) and filmed in Downtown L.A. “in the basement of an old meat factory, De Caluwe said, “Scary fact is that there was blood everywhere, fresh blood, which neither Darren nor the band put there. Weird part is the factory has been out of business for quite some time…”

Aborted To Sign With Century Media

Century Media Records is proud to announce the worldwide signing of Belgian death/grinders, ABORTED.

“It’s been a very hectic, intense and heavy year for ABORTED,” says founder and lead vocalist Sven De Caluwé. “Yet a year in which we have done tons of amazing things, went to amazing places and met a lot of cool new people. One of those amazing things is being signed to a label we believe will be able to lift this band to new heights. They believe in us 200% and are going to help us take the next step in our careers.”

The band is gearing up for a North American tour this fall with SUFFOCATION, CRYPTOPSY and DESPISED ICON. This will serve as the band’s first-ever full U.S. tour! As anyone who saw the band at their Maryland Deathfest appearance can attest, you do not want to miss out on this historical event.

“With our North American tour we will finally be able to get out to the U.S. and Canada and do some damage,” De Caluwé says. “Needless to say we are extremely thrilled to hit the road and to be a part of the growing Century Family, a company that stands for nothing but quality releases and that strongly supports every cool act under their wings.”

Crytopsy Name New Album, Seek Guitarist

Canadian death metallers CRYPTOPSY have posted the following message on their official website:

"Once Was Not", CRYPTOPSY's fifth studio album, was completed last week. Sébastien Marsan, at his Studio Vortex in St-Constant (Quebec, Canada), did a wondrous job of mixing and engineering. The album was mastered by UE Nastasi at Sterling Sound in New York City and features artwork by François Quévillon, Filip Ivanovic and Martin Lacroix. With eleven tracks totaling about 50 minutes, this is a concept album where every song has its own identity. We made sure to have a lot of flavors and different rhythms and tempos throughout the whole process, the variations in the tracks may surprise some of you. An exclusive Cryptopsy studio report will be featured in BW&BK #91 in August. Expect "Once Was Not" to be released in October by
Century Media Records.

In the meantime, CRYPTOPSY are still a 4-piece looking for a fifth piece: In this case, a second guitarist for our bouts of extensive touring.

Cryptopsy Finish New Album

Montreal’s Cryptopsy have completed recordings for their yet-to-be titled October release. Guitar player Alex Auburn checked in with the following wrap up:

“We have finished the fifth full-length Cryptopsy album. We started recording the album on May 16th at Vortex Studio in St-Constant, about 20 minutes south of Montreal. It was really fun and quiet recording there, as not a lot goes on in a small city like that, so we really focused on recording. Eleven tracks totaling about 50 minutes, this is a concept album where every song has its own identity, and we made sure to have a lot of flavors and different rhythms and tempos throughout the whole process. The variations in the tracks may surprise some of you. The goal this time around was to focus on writing excellent songs, which we did. Producer Sebastien Marsan did a phenomenal job, and we are glad he took the time to work with us. Finally, this album will be out soon, and we can't wait to see you all when we hit the road with this new material.”

Cryptopsy are touring extensively across North America this fall with Suffocation and Aborted. The tour dates are as follows: More...
