Originally formed in Florida, the band eventually relocated to Poughkeepsie, NY and has put out several releases with Revelation Records in addition to a split with Another Victim for Trustkill Records in 2000. Following the departure of vocalist Geert Van Der Velde in 2003, the group changed their name to The Warmth Of Red Blood and set about looking for a new vocalist. Earlier this year, the band announced the return of Shai Hulud, dumping the new moniker and recording new demo material, which was shopped to a few labels, though Metal Blade was among the group's top choices.

Shai Hulud Address Tour, New Song and Singer

Shai Hulud have set the record straight regarding several matters, including their upcoming tour, their new song, and their new singer. For starters, the group has decided to keep the name Shai Hulud, dropping The Warmth Of Red Blood moniker adopted following the departure of vocalist Geert Van der Velde in 2003. Meanwhile, the band has officially announced the addition of new singer Eric Dellon, also of Zombie Apocalypse and Shallow Water Grave. According to the group, "Dellon's pipes have had their fair share of exposure already. He sang a lot of featured backups on That Within Blood Ill-tempered."

Regarding their upcoming tour dates with The Red Chord, Shai Hulud had this to say:

"In case there is any confusion, we did indeed confirm a string of dates with the Mass powerhouse The Red Chord for May 2006. They kindly asked us to jump on these shows to help support them on their headlining tour before they rightfully take over the world. How could we refuse? You go, boys.

We just want to make it clear that we are out supporting The Red Chord on their headlining tour. We'll be playing 8 songs- some old, some new, none borrowed, and I guess you could say some of them are blue-ish. Regardless of their age or color, 8 songs total. Hopefully we'll be playing a favorite song of yours. If not this time around, we'll catch it next time. Please note our set length before you drive cross-country just to see us. Who the hell are we, anyway? The tour package is really fantastic. Come for the entire show, you shouldn't be disappointed- not unless you are actually expecting to see Tony Danza tap dance.

Shai Hulud's live lineup for this tour is Eric Dellon on vocals, Mad Matt Fletcher on bass, Matt Fox on guitar, Ryan Burns on another guitar, and Brian Go on drums. Longtime member/renaissance man Clark W. Griswold has fallen sick, and will not be with us this time around. We wish him a speedy recovery."

Finally, addressing the new demo track posted several days ago here, the band states the following:

"It's from a 3 song demo we recorded earlier this year with Greg Thomas at his Silver Bullet Studio (at that time in our basement). The version of Blades that's been posted is not an album demo. It's just a rough demo for us to make tweaks to, send to labels and other such nonsense. The lead vocals on all 3 tracks were provided by Schmeck Dellon, however, while recording, Geert happened to be stinking up the neighborhood so he popped in and accompanied Dellon on Blades. That's both Dellon and Geert in the beginning of the song, though Geert has scattered solo and backup screams throughout.

We like the song quite a bit. We hope you do as well. If you listen to it once while doing the dishes and talking on the phone, and decide it's "meh," do us both a favor, never listen to it, or us again.

For the more sensible, keep in mind it's a rough demo posted just so you can hear that we haven't gone polka. We realize it's a lot to take in, but we have faith in you. We know you are a lot smarter than the message boards depict you. Take a listen if you haven't yet. We're confident you'll hear something you enjoy, if, and that's a big, bold, italicized IF, you aren't dead set against doing so. Feel free to drop us a line to tell us what you think, good, bad, or ugly."

The Architect Recruit Ex-Shai Hulud Singer

Groningen (Netherlands) metal outfit The Architect have recently joined forces with Geert van der Velde (Shai Hulud) who relocated (back) to the Netherlands 2 years ago to pursue his studies after stepping out of full-time vocal duties for Shai Hulud. The Architect was formed out of the ashes of Dutch hardcore/metal veterans Revolt earlier this year (2005) and had quietly been rehearsing and playing local shows with 'fill-in' frontman Rene Smit frontman of Dutch hardcore/metal renowned band Instil. The Architect joined up with Geert in September and recently played their first show together with Life in Your Way in Groningen. They have been actively playing out since and are currently working on new material for a full length album - tentatively to be recorded in 2006. A live MP3 of The Architect with Geert on vocals (2nd show) can be found here.

The Risk Taken Update and Guitarist Search

The Risk Taken have issued the following update about their guitarist situation and new album:

First of all, we want to acknowledge that our second guitarist Mark Choiniere has left our fold to join the ranks of Throwdown (this happened a couple months ago) and we wish him the best of luck in that endeavor. We have had for the past months Matt Fox of Shai Hulud noteriety filling in on guitar for us and he will likely be playing with us for the next month or so as we continue our search for a new guitarist. Interested candidates should be willing and able to tour a good bit out of the year, have their own gear and be moderatly capable at their instrument and all of the other crap every single band lists when posting something like this. Having past tour experience is a plus as well as living in the general Connecticut (or willing to relocate to) region. People can email us at therisktaken@hotmail.com.

Also we are currently working on our full-length album entitled "Colossus" which should be coming out early next year. Tracking has been going well and we are very pleased thus far. It's definitely a change for band sonically- signficantly darker and heavier but we assure you that you will not be let down. Think along the lines of Until Your Heart Stops era Cave In and His Hero Is Gone.

Shai Hulud To Tour Australia, New Zealand

Shai Hulud will be touring New Zealand and Australia in August. Dates have not been confirmed, but this will indeed be Shai Hulud, with Geert back on vocals. According to the band, "Shai Hulud is not permanently reforming. Truth is, we always wanted to visit and play NZ and Australia. I mean, who wouldn't? As we are all on good terms, we agreed it would be a shame not to play Hulud's songs together in a place that has consistently shown us massive love and support."

Shai Hulud DVD and Reissue Updates

Shai Hulud has announced that their upcoming DVD will be titled Pray Not A Fallen Banner. The effort will feature footage from all stages of the now-defunct band, "from handheld cameras with terrible sound circa 95 to the slick looking and sounding multi-camera footage of 2004 courtesy of our professional friends at 3B Studios." Derek Hess will complete the artwork for the DVD.

Also, producer Zeuss has remastered Shai Hulud's Hearts Once Nourished With Hope and Compassion. According to the band, the record "for the first time sounds like an album someone can be proud of." The album's new artwork and layout are underway, and the album is slated for a late summer or early fall release.

Finally, the updated version of A Profound Hatred Of Man is taking shape and is expected to feature more than just its original tracks. Shai Hulud is working on getting permission from labels to include various tracks that have been used elsewhere throughout the years. "In theory (the album) should have every split, compilation, and tribute track."

In related news, The Warmth Of Red Blood (the new project comprised largely of Shai Hulud members and a yet named vocalist) is continuing work on their demo. After recording the guitars for the songs, the band will add the vocals of two prospective members and make a concrete decision on who will become their singer.

Shai Hulud Look At The Past, To The Future

The Shai Hulud camp has provided an extensive update regarding recent developments. To summarize: The Shai Hulud retrospective has now been completed. The CD will consist of the band's original demo with Damien Moyal, Chad Gilbert's first recording with the band, a three-song live set at NYU, in additional to other miscellaneous features. Look for that one to hit streets in February 2005. Meanwhile, the group has been preparing a reissue of their earliest releases. Producer/engineer Zeuss has been remixing material from their "Hearts One Nourished With Hope" release and their "The Fall Of Every Man" split. Essentially, the two aforementioned releases, in addition to the "Profound Hatred Of Man" EP (everything the band released with Crisis Records), will now be repackaged and released with new artwork on one CD through Revelation Records next year.

In related news, the band is also working on a DVD, tentatively entitled "Pray Not A Fallen Banner." Details are sketchy at this point, but here's what the band says about it: "Yes, the DVD. Being worked on. We have a lot of footage to sift through. The DVD will cover the band from top to bottom. Should be neat to hear how badly we played in our formative years, and hilarious to see how little we improved years later."

Moving on... now that Shai Hulud is no longer a band (so to speak), the new project, now called The Warmth Of Red Blood, has been working on new material. Thus far, they have completed three songs, with several more in the works. The group will eventually record a demo to shop to labels, before ultimately releasing a full-length. The outfit still haven't landed upon a new vocalist though. They are seriously considering a few candidates, but are still accepting vocal auditions.

Shai Hulud Changes Name, Loses Singer

Shai Hulud have now changed their name to The Warmth Of Red Blood. Since finishing their last album, in addition to parting ways with vocalist Geert Van der Velde, Matt Fox and Matt Fletcher have been writing material for their next album. Although they've got a new name, according to the band, "the new music and lyrics are a continuation and progression that still finds Shai Hulud's message, style, and sound intact." Of course they are now in search of a new full-time vocalist. They're looking for candidates who are drug-free, over age 24, and passionate about music. If you're interested, download this MP3 (a rough instrumental demo from Shai Hulud's last album) overlay vocals, and mail a CD to the following address:
