Frontiers Records has announced the signing of Cain's Offering for their debut album “Gather the Faithful,” to be released on August 28th in Europe and September 11th in the USA.
The band is the new artistic creation of Jani Liimatainen, the guitarist/songwriter formerly of Sonata Arctica and Altaria. In 2007 Jani parted ways with Finnish power metal act Sonata Arctica, a band he has contributed to found in 1996 and to which he devoted his full time and energy for more than 10 years.
Following his departure from one of Finland's biggest music exports in recent years, all eyes were set upon his newest creation: Cain's Offering. “After parting ways with Sonata Arctica, I took 'a leave of absence' from the metal circles, feeling that I had not much to offer at the time and that I needed a break to charge my batteries” states Liimatainen. “After a year or so the hunger to play metal returned with a vengeance, and so I decided to put together a new group of my own. I gave a call to a few friends, and voila: Cain's Offering! Cain’s Offering is a collaboration of a world-class musicians and one of the best singers in the world of Heavy Metal. All of these guys are handpicked from the very best the Finnish metal scene has to offer and I’m very proud to have them join me in this band.”
Joining Jani are vocalist Timo Kotipelto (Stratovarius, Kotipelto), keyboardist Mikko Harkin (Solution.45, Mehida, ex-Sonata Arctica, ex-Wingdom, ex-Kenziner), bassist Jukka Koskinen (Norther, Wintersun) and drummer Jani "Hurtsi" Hurula (Paul Di'Anno).
Drawing its musical influence from both the classic hard rock scene, the fast-paced European power metal and a very modern heavy metal sound, Cain's Offering is a perfect example of today's living and breathing Finnish music scene. “To me Cain's Offering is a perfect combination of the things I value in music: beautiful melodies, emotions, top-notch musicianship and some kick-ass Metal! Basically it represents music as I like to hear it; every element is in its rightful place. I feel that what we came up with has all the traditional values, that so many metal-heads, myself included, hold so dear, but with a fresh new twist to it” says Jani. “Lyrically the songs deal with very basic, almost primal emotions and subjects most people will be able to relate to … and … there are absolutely no dragons allowed :)”
“Gather The Faithful” includes the following songs:
My Queen Of Winter
More Than Friends
Oceans Of Regret
Gather The Faithful
Into The Blue
Dawn Of Solace
Thorn In My Side
Morpheus In A Masquerade

Home after his first-ever trip to the U.S., special guest appearance at Atlanta’s ProgPower USA V, and performances in South America Timo Kotipelto sends his regards to his fans worldwide:
The gigs in Argentina and Brazil were superb! The response from the fans was so awesome. A lot of people knew my songs and we had lots of fun on stage. The funny thing was that our bass player’s last name Porra (Lauri Porra) is a swear word in Brazil and means something like sperm! :) So the people were shouting his name very loud when I introduced him.
The whole trip to Atlanta ProgPower V and to South-America was such an enjoyable journey for me. I hope to get back to play some shows in the U.S. with my band, and also to headline a tour in South America in the near future. Thanks to all cool people I met over there!
Keyboardist Jens Johansson (Stratovarius, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen) who stepped-in in the eleventh hour to perform with the band, said the following regarding the band’s South American shows:
It was really nice performing with my new friends from the band Kotipelto this past week. The audiences in South America are always a lot of fun so it was my pleasure to help Timo out when his regular keyboard player Janne pooped out due to tour with CoB – ha ha. The last gig in Sao Paulo in front of 7,000 crazy Brazilian fans was a nice finish of the Latin American leg, and as I have never been to Cordoba, Argentina before that was also really interesting. Next this mini-tour takes us of all places to Finland.
Kotipelto, whose newest album "Coldness" was released earlier this year by Century Media Records, will be performing 6 dates in the next two weeks in the artist’s native country Finland. More information on the performances can be found here. In addition, the band will be playing in Helsinki, Finland with Nightwish December 26th at the sold-out post-Christmas show.
Kotipelto's official website has posted some new live shots taken this past July at Tavastia in Helsinki, Finland here (choose "Live Pictures 2004" from the drop-down menu).
In addition, Timo Kotipelto has posted this message:
Next week I will fly to Atlanta for the Progpower festival where I will be as a special guest. I hope to meet some fans and to have some interviews as well. From there I will fly directly for our South-American tour (Argentina and Brazil). For the tour dates click on "GIGS."

A brand-new KOTIPELTO track, titled "Reasons", has been posted online in MP3 format at this location.
"Reasons" comes off the former STRATOVARIUS singer's sophomore solo album, "Coldness", due in Europe on April 26 through Century Media Records (a May 18 U.S. release is expected). The follow-up to 2002's "Waiting for the Dawn" was recorded by CHILDREN OF BODOM keyboardist Janne Wirman at his Beyond Abilities Studios as well as by Tero Kostermaa at High and Loud's ELK Studios and Finnvox Studios in Helsinki, where the mixing (Mikko Karmila) and the mastering (Mika Jussila) also took place. Matthias Norén, who has previously worked with bands like INTO ETERNITY, LOST HORIZON and EVERGREY, designed the album's artwork, which is said to perfectly fit the atmosphere of the CD. Additionally, the album will contain the video for the song "Reasons" and a "Making Of" for the video shoot and the album's studio recordings as extras. A CD-single containing the track "Reasons" will be released in Europe on March 22, accompanied by the songs "Seeds Of Sorrow" (album version) and the non-album bonus "Vizier" (extended version of a track originally featured on "Waiting For The Dawn").
