Hex Records not releasing Soul Control 7"

Hex Records has officially acknowledged that they will not be releasing a 7" from Soul Control, as had been previously announced. Here's a statement from Hex:

"When those dudes initially approached me about doing a 7" I was totally down for it. They wanted to do one song and that was the only thing that threw me off. I said I'd do it if they recorded at least two songs. They said they would figure it out and get back to me. I just don't feel right selling people a one-song 7".

"Well, somewhere there was a miscommunication because next thing I know I was listed as one of the labels releasing one of these 7"s. So I immediately hit them up again and let them know that I was only interested if it was more than one song. Well, that didn't fit with their plan of doing 4 one-song records, so we called it off.

"There's no hard feelings, and I still think that band totally rules. And the new songs they recorded are dope. AND, there's the chance of doing something more formal down the line in the future (so keep an ear to the ground)."

Soul Control Replaces Vocalist Matt Amore

Rhode Island hardcore band Soul Control has announced the recent departure of vocalist Matt Amore. He has subsequently been replaced by Rory VanGrol of Achilles. Here's a statement from the band:

"On April 2nd Matt Amore informed us he was quitting Soul Control. His reasons are personal and we will not go into detail here, that is up to him explain publicly if he so desires. There were a lot of mixed emotions to say the least and we've all handled it differently as individuals. The one thing we will express on Matt's behalf is that it was his wish that Soul Control continued. After about two weeks of serious thought, serious talk and serious emotion, the three remaining members agreed that we did want to continue. While it is Matt's time to depart, it is not Soul Control's time to stop. With an entire new album written musically and 3 tours booked for this summer, we are not ready to just "throw it all away." So we're not going to. As a band and as friends we wish Matt the best in life and we know he wishes the same for us. We know this because we are friends and will remain so.

"That all being said, after an emotional month, we are a complete band again. Rory VanGrol is now an official member of Soul Control. Some of you may know Rory from his work with the bands How We Are and Achilles. After hanging with him and practicing with him, the choice was a swift one. Things are already moving quickly and you'll be hearing things soon."

In related news, Soul Control and Lie and Wait will be touring together in June. Here are the tour dates:

6/12 San Antonio, TX @ The Crossing
6/13 Corpus Christi, TX @ The Compound
6/14 Houston, TX @ The Junction
6/15 Dallas, TX @ Red Blood Club
6/16 Nashville, TN @ The Muse
6/17 Atlanta, GA @ TBA
6/18 York, PA @ Fat Paul's Basement

6/20 Providence, RI @ The Living Room w/ Verse, Have Heart, Tides

Soul Control Signs To Rivalry Records

Rivalry Records has officially signed Rhode Island hardcore band Soul Control. The label comments:

"Playing heavy, driving, rhythmic hardcore influenced by Bad Brains, Burn, Bane, 108, Strife, Quicksand, this band is a reflection of a time when hardcore had much more compassion, awareness, and accountability."

The group's new 7" will be available on May 15th, while a split 7" with I Rise and another 7" EP will follow. Rivalry will then release a ten-song CD featuring the tracks from all releases.

You can listen to some of the band's material here.
