Legion Of The Damned Working On New Material

LEGION OF THE DAMNED vocalist Maurice Swinkels has posted this message on the band's official website:

"Greetings all male and female thrashers out there. I think it's about time to bring you an update on the LEGION OF THE DAMNED camp right here from the front. It's snowing outside right now, which brings no good feelings towards next week's shows we are going to do in Finland haha. It's probably fucking freezing there. But seriously, we are looking forward to play Finland and we can't wait. It's been months ago we've been on stage, and Finland will be the first to see our saved anger and rage unleashed. They can expect the BEST songs out of the LWGION trilogy: 'Malevolent Rapture', 'Sons Of The Jackal' and, of course, 'Feel The Blade'.

'Feel The Blade' has been released in January and it was a huge success, not only in Germany we entered the official album charts, but so did we in Finland, Norway and Austria! We wanna thank everybody out there - promoters, journalists and above all fans to make this all happen! You KILL.

But LEGION OF THE DAMNED is LEGION OF THE DAMNED, and that we decided not to play a lot this year and work on new material was a good decision. We are working very hard on new material and so far three songs are semi-ready. We even already know the album title, but in this stage we are not going to reveal anything. This shows that we are hungry and still have a lot of aggression inside to make absolute KILLER songs!!

Expect LEGION OF THE DAMNED at its best and with songs that hit you right in the face even before you have heard more than two songs. Has LEGION OF THE DAMNED ever let you down with this?

The new album, which will be released in 2009, will be our last for now and we will probably focus on a lot of shows.

All I can say is that everyone out there should prepare his or her headbanging skills, because the new album and concerts in 2009 will be a serious attack on your neck muscles."

Legion Of The Damned Enter German Charts

"Feel the Blade", a reissue of Dutch thrashers LEGION OF THE DAMNED's "Elegy for the Weak" CD (originally released under the band's previous moniker OCCULT), has entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 70. Released on January 4, 2008 via Massacre Records, the new version of the LP contains two new songs that didn't appear on the original "Elegy for the Weak" album, a new cover and a bonus DVD.

The band previously commented: "'Feel the Blade' comes from an album that OCCULT once released under the name 'Elegy for the Weak'. We as band strongly believe that this album belongs to the LEGION OF THE DAMNED category and since the album is hard to get we will re-release it. Of course there may always be people out there who were able to buy an 'Elegy for the Weak' copy for 10 or 15 euros, but we put so much effort into this new release that even if you own a copy of the 'Elegy for the Weak' album, this is still worth buying. It not only [has] the 'Elegy for the Weak' recording remastered but also two new songs and a cover song, plus a 127-minute-long bonus DVD."

LEGION OF THE DAMNED's "Sons of the Jackal" album entered the German national album chart at position No. 54 back in January 2007. The follow-up to 2006's "Malevolent Rapture" was recorded at Stage One studio in Bühne, Germany with producer Andy Classen.

Legion Of The Damned To Enter Studio In September

Dutch metallers LEGION OF THE DAMNED have checked in with the following update:

"Time for some update. Nothing new has happened. Just came back from playing Bloodstock in the UK along with ARCH ENEMY, TESTAMENT, SABBAT and IN FLAMES. Was absolutely a fantastic experience, and to the UK fans; thank you so much! we had a blast and we hope to return to the UK soon!

As said, nothing new has happened besides finishing up our two new songs for the upcoming Feel The Blade release. Still need to finish the lyrics for those songs ,so as soon as we got them, we will post the titles of the new tracks. We are also finishing up our Touring The Jackal tour which started already back in March. Still three shows to go.

November and December will be a rest for us, and some of us will go on vacation. We will keep you posted and updated as soon as we enter the studio with Andy Classen in September!"

Celtic Frost Comment On UK Concert Curfew

Celtic Frost have released the following statement in regards to an imposed curfew on their UK tour dates:

"While already on the road on the European leg of the "Monotheist" tour, we were informed of strict curfews to our co-headlining shows with Kreator in the UK. These curfews have been imposed locally and are not a stipulation by either Celtic Frost or Kreator. As a matter of fact, we oppose these curfews explicitly, and we have informed both our management and our concert agency accordingly. There is little we can do, however.

Celtic Frost and Kreator and the bands' representatives have spent months trying to assemble an appropriate and exciting touring package of four bands that cover a wide variety of contemporary metal. We loathe the fact that we are now finally back out on the road - in Celtic Frost's case, for the first time in some 17 years - and have to discover that the local booker and promoters in the UK impose curfews so unrealistically strict that it is impossible to put on the regular performances by all four bands on the bill as played everywhere else in Europe. Apparently, some of the UK venues book two events during certain nights, i.e., in this case our tour and another event. This will yield twice the profits for them in one night, but it also means that the first event, namely our tour, will have to clear the venue at an unreasonably early hour, as early as 9:30 or 10:00pm.

There appears to be no proper solution to this situation. Both headliners are categorically unwilling to cancel the performances of either our opening act or special guest, Watain and Legion Of The Damned, in order to play full headlining sets. Just like us, Watain and Legion of the Damned have travelled thousands of miles and gone through great expenses to play all of Europe. The local booker and promoters in the UK are equally unwilling to extend their ludicrous curfews, even for a mere 30 minutes. The alternative, so we are informed, would be a cancelled concert.

Having all four bands play at least a semblance of a set means that the duration of all sets will be severely restricted. In case of Celtic Frost and Kreator, this means sets of 60 minutes, in case of Watain and Legion of the Damned, sets of 20 minutes. This applies to the following shows: Glasgow, Bradford, Wolverhampton, Cardiff, and Nottingham. All bands involved believe that playing a set is better than cancelling any show. That we all are extremely frustrated, if not to say furious, about this situation is obvious."

The tour dates are as follows: More...

Legion of the Damned Announce New Bassist

Dutch thrashers LEGION OF THE DAMNED (formerly OCCULT) have posted the following message on their official web site:

"During our last tour, bass player Twan Fleuren left the band because of family matters. After having spoken with Twan, we all decided that it was best for him to focus on his family and leave the band. Within no time we found a new member in Harold Gielen, who complements the band perfectly. He also plays the guitar in MANGLED and INHUME. Harold already joined LEGION OF THE DAMNED on the last day of the tour at the 013 venue in Tilburg and you'll definitely be seeing more of him in the future. We wish Twan Fleuren all the best in life and we welcome Harold Gielen to our line-up."

LEGION OF THE DAMNED's debut album, "Malevolent Rapture", was released in January 2006 via Boomer Entertainment/Massacre Records.

Finntroll Drop Off No Mercy Tour

Finntroll, who recently parted ways with singer Tapio Wilska, have posted the following message on their official website explaining their No Mercy Tour (which features Cannibal Corpse, Kataklysm and Legion of the Damned) cancellation:

"We are more than sorry to inform that we are forced to cancel the No Mercy - Tour. We are still searching for a new vocalist and we feel that it's only fair to the fans that next shows what Finntroll will do, will be with a new line-up, not with temporary replacements.

"We are at least as dissapointed as some of you for not being able to do the tour, but we'll hope that next opportunity to see you all along the road somewhere will happen really soon. Until then...Rot'n'Troll."
