Andreas Kisser Doesn't Rule Out Reunion w/ Max

In a recent interview with MTV News, SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser said he's heard all the rumors about SEPULTURA reuniting with founding member and current SOULFLY frontman Max Cavalera for a spot on this summer's Ozzfest. He's even heard the one that involves the band's "plans" to perform three different sets from the main stage — one featuring SOULFLY material, a second of just "Roots" and "Chaos A.D." tracks, and the last consisting of songs off the band's upcoming CD, "Dante XXI". But at this point he said they're nothing more than rumors, period.

"Nothing is really set," he told MTV News. "We need to go on tour with this new album, but nothing's set. There's a lot of talking going on, but nothing's being done as far as I know. A lot of people are working for these things to happen, but so far nothing's going on. People are excited to hear that there's a possibility for us to get back [together], and it would be cool to play with Max again, to jam together. It would be great and it's cool to see that everyone thinks it's a good idea. The way I see it is, if you do this shit, we're only going to do stuff that we recorded up to 'Roots' and hopefully maximize — do a DVD or something. I haven't talked to Max [about a reunion]. So far it's just really rumors — which is a start."

With regards to his upcoming solo album, Kisser said, "I've been working on it for the past three years," he said. "It will be a double album — the first [disc] will be related to the electric guitar, with different musicians, and the second will be acoustic. I'm taking my time with it, and it should be out by the end of this year, [although] nothing's set. It won't be a masturbation guitar album; it will explore different tones, different guitars and different instrumentation."

Igor Cavalera Taking A Break From Sepultura

Igor Cavalera is taking a break from Brazilian thrashers SEPULTURA to spend time with his new wife while they await the birth of their first child together, but he has no intentions of leaving the band, the drummer told BLABBERMOUTH.NET Friday night.

Cavalera, who recently remarried after splitting up with his wife of 10 years, Monika, says that he wants to stay at home in Sao Paulo, Brazil before his fourth child is born (he has three kids with his first wife, while his new bride has another child from a previous relationship) and insists that he gave the rest of the band his blessing to seek out a temporary replacement in time for the group's upcoming European tour with IN FLAMES.

Former SOULFLY drummer Roy Mayorga, who played with Igor's brother Max for several years in the late '90s and again in 2001-2003, has been enlisted to do the European tour, with the possibility that he will stick around for further touring activities beyond the spring.

When asked point-blank if he has in fact quit the group or if he has any intentions of leaving the band, Igor told BLABBERMOUTH.NET, "No, man," before explaining that he would rather not tour right now than be in a position where he is forced to go on the road without having his heart in it 100 percent.

SEPULTURA's European tour with IN FLAMES is scheduled to kick off March 12 in Oslo, Norway. The band's new album, "Dante XXI" (featuring Cavalera), is scheduled for release in North America on March 14 via SPV USA.

Throwdown Preparing For Arch Enemy Tour

THROWDOWN have just wrapped up their national tour with SOULFLY. However not before THROWDOWN vocalist Dave Peters joined SOULFLY on stage in L.A., Tucson and Anaheim to perform some of his favorite SEPULTURA songs — "Refuse/Resist" and "Territory". Max Cavalera, who helms SOULFLY, was previously in SEPULTURA, which was a huge influence on countless metal and hardcore bands for their uncompromising brutality and outspokenness. THROWDOWN, who are also known for their hard-hitting brand of hardcore with metal elements, have been covering SEPULTURA's song "Roots Bloody Roots" for years.

Commented Peters: "We were sending a song out to Max every night, he invited me up to his bus to hang out and we talked about how THROWDOWN had been covering 'Roots Bloody Roots' for years and how people brought it up in interviews he had done. He thought it was strange but cool that a hardcore band was covering his songs. He joked about us playing the song and him singing it and it eventually turned into me doing one of my favorite SEPULTURA songs with them."

THROWDOWN, who hail from Orange County, CA, were in their home element when Peters joined SOULFLY on stage. "I felt like a child that got picked for the Make A Wish foundation. I came in too early the first night cause I was so nervous, which I felt dumb about considering I have known that song for thirteen years. It was pretty sweet watching Max play that song at the first Ozzfest in 1996 from 300 yards back to helping him play it a few feet away."

THROWDOWN tour dates w/ ARCH ENEMY and STRAPPING YOUNG LAD:

Dec. 12 - Cardiff, UK - Coal Exchange
Dec. 13 - Manchester, UK - MDH
Dec. 14 - Glasgow, UK - QMU
Dec. 15 - London, UK - The Forum
Dec. 16 - Wolverhampton, UK - Wolfun Hall
Dec. 18 - York, UK - Fibbers
Dec. 19 - Oxford, UK - Zodiac
Dec. 20 - London, UK - Barfly

Rob Flynn Talks About Roadrunner All Star Sessions

Austin Powell of The Daily Texan recently conducted an interview with MACHINE HEAD frontman Robert Flynn about Robert's contributions to the ROADRUNNER UNITED "The All-Star Sessions" CD, a collection of original tracks that are collaborations between numerous Roadrunner Records stars. The short question-and-answer session follows:

Daily Texan: Jeff Waters (guitarist for ANNIHILATOR and solo musician on two of Flynn's tracks [on "The All-Star Sessions" CD], "The Dagger" and "Independent"), goes absolutely off on this album. What was your relationship with him before the project?

Robert Flynn: "We never toured with ANNIHILATOR. That was a little before our time. I actually met him while coming home from England. This guy standing in front of me at customs was wearing an ANNIHILATOR shirt, which is really rare. You just don't see it coming to America, so I was just like 'Are you in ANNIHILATOR?' and he was like, 'Yeah, Robert Flynn?' And I was like 'Yeah,' and we just kind of hit it off from there."

Daily Texan: Waters is definitely an amazing shredder, but let's talk about your guitar work on the album. What brought about that 3-part guitar harmony in "Independent"?

Robert Flynn: The whole concept of that song is loosely based around [late PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist] 'Dimebag' Darrell. Around the time of his death this guy named William Grim put out an article on this extremely conservative web site called The Iconoclast entitled, 'R.I.P. Dimebag Abbott and Good Riddance.' It basically called him a scumbag that brought this on himself. It was pretty vile and it was published the day after his murder. I copied it, and sent it to Max Cavalera [SOULFLY, ex-SEPULTURA], who ended up singing on the track. So the topic of the song is a response to that and three-part guitar harmony was just going for this big, epic guitar-oriented outro piece with piano and strings as a kind of tribute to him."

Daily Texan: How did your track with Howard Jones of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE come about?

Robert Flynn: "I had written the song and it had a killer melodic hook, and I envisioned Howard singing it from the get-go. I thought it would be cool to hear him on 'The More Things Change'-era MACHINE HEAD track. I wrote the vocal melody and lyrics, recorded it and sent it to him. He was originally just supposed to be the singer, but during the course of recording we started messing around with it and I started singing. It kind of just became the 'Ebony and Ivory' of metal music. The whole process was just spontaneous. So much of what you hear is a first take, just this magical moment put to tape."

Soulfly Guitarist Talks About Return To Thrash

Cameron Edney of Inside Out 666 interviewed Soulfly's Marc Rizzo and discussed the re-release of his solo album, the new Soulfly album, the possibility of releasing a live DVD, touring Australia, those comments Max recently made about touring again with Sepultura and much more. Here are some excepts:

INSIDE_OUT666: I love the new album it’s somewhere along the lines of old Sepultura meets new Soulfly!

MARC RIZZO: Exactly! Joe & I are both huge thrash metal fans as is Max. We wanted to get back to that style. We love the Soulfly stuff but we really wanted to get back to solos & great thrash riffs.

INSIDE_OUT666: How long did it take to record the new album?

MARC RIZZO: Not long at all; it took about a month to record the basic guitars, bass & drums. Max took a bit of time doing the vocals & going over the world to find those weird instruments. It took us about six months all together.

INSIDE_OUT666: When it came time to record ‘Dark Ages’ did you approach it in a different way to albums you have worked on in the past?

MARC RIZZO: I think we talked about getting back to the thrash style because Joe & myself are really into that style of music & we’re both well schooled in that style of music. Max also wanted to go back into more of the world music vibe that he’s always had. He continued to go around the world to look for strange instruments to use on the record.

INSIDE_OUT666: Max recently said in an interview that he is looking forward to playing shows again in the future with Sepultura. With statements such as that & yourself having side projects, what does the future hold for the Soulfly?

MARC RIZZO: I think Soulfly will be going on forever. For as long as Max is around Soulfly will continue. If Max put Sepultura back together that would be awesome, I’m the first person who’d love to see that. I’m a huge Sepultura fan, I grew up on Sepultura, & they’re still one of my favorite bands.

INSIDE_OUT666: Now Soulfly are heading back out on tour this month, what can fans expect to see this time around?

MARC RIZZO: This time around we’re going to do everything off the new record; the fans can really expect to see a thrash set. We’re also going to be doing all the old classic Soulfly songs & a lot of old Sepultura stuff like ‘Inner Self’, ‘Dead Embryonic Cells’, ‘Territory’ & ‘Mass Hypnosis’. We try to get all these songs perfect, note for note cause we’re such fans of the music. I think you can expect a fast, brutal & heavy set from us.
