MINDGRINDER, the Norwegian extreme metal band featuring ex-SOURCE OF TIDE drummer/keyboardist Cosmocrator (on bass/vocals), has posted pre-production recordings of three new tracks on its MySpace page.
MINDGRINDER recently announced the return of drummer Nex to the group's ranks. The band is currently writing material for its third album and hopes to hit the studio as soon as all song arrangements and lyrics are ready. More information will be made available soon.
MINDGRINDER's sophomore album, "Riot Detonator", was released in May 2005 via Nocturnal Art Productions. Cosmocrator described the songs on the CD at the time as "extreme, brutal and intense, based on the strongest material from the first album, but taking it even further in all ways. The expression is way more dynamic, raw and complete this time!"
MINDGRINDER issued its debut album, "MindTech", in April 2004 through Nocturnal Art Productions.
No doubt you've noticed the Hammerslag Festival logo on our home page. But now I can announce that Metalunderground.com is an official sponsor of Norway's Hammerslag Festival. The festival, which is to take place on December 16 and 17, 2005, is a two-day showcase of extreme black, death and grind metal bands. Sponsorship of the Hammerslag festival fits with Metalunderground.com's mission of promoting underground heavy metal.
The two-day extreme metal festival, in its second year, takes place in Norway's oldest city, Tønsberg (est. 871). Friday night's show will be held at Rivals Rockpub and Saturday's will in an old church built in 1857. The festival boasts more than nine confirmed bands including Tsjuder, Myrkskog, Svartahrid, Grand Alchemist, Framferd, Draugstafur, Mindgrinder, and She Said Destroy with more in negotiations.
"The Hammerslag Festival is the ideal metal festival for Metalunderground.com to announce its first sponsorship deal with," said Metalunderground.com owner Doug Gibson. "With our large American readership, there is not a more fitting genre of metal to bring to their attention than Norwegian black metal. Every reader that discovers a new metal band that they like through Metalunderground.com reinforces why I started this website in the first place."
"Promotion of this event to an American audience benefits Hammerslag Festival, the Norwegian Extreme Metal Scene, and metalheads alike," said the festival's organizer, Bjørn Almar Rolstad Johansen. "The bands as well as the experience of a black metal festival at the old church are quite special as well, considering the theme of the fest."
Tickets for the Hammerslag Festival can be purchased through Ticketmaster at http://www.ticketmaster.no/html/browse.htmI?l=EN&TOUR=HAMMER
Norwegian extreme metal band MINDGRINDER, featuring ex-SOURCE OF TIDE drummer/keyboardist Cosmocrator (on bass/vocals), have parted ways with drummer Dan. "His leaving has a mutual understanding within the band and is from the given circumstances the best solution for MINDGRINDER," reads a posting on the group's web site. "At the same time we are proud to welcome Nex (EVILIZER, ex-DISIPLIN) on board the MG-tank as a new permanent batterist!"
As previously reported, MINDGRINDER recently completed work on their sophomore album, "Riot Detonator", at Akkerhaugen Lydstudio (EMPEROR, ZYKLON, WINDIR ), tentatively due this spring via Nocturnal Art Productions. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "The Rebellion", "Concept of Honesty", "Obligation to Prevail" and "Warhead". A video for the song "Pathetic Submission" was filmed last month.
Commented Cosmocrator: "The material is extreme, brutal and intense, based on the strongest material from the first album, but taking it even further in all ways. The expression is way more dynamic, raw and complete this time!"
Scum, the black metal band featuring Amen's Casey Chaos and former Emperor duo Samoth and Faust, are to release their debut album early in 2005. Expect it to be called 'Gospels For The Sick'.
Two years ago, a group of people convened to discuss the possibility of making an album that would impact the world music scene like never before. Some rehearsals took place in 2002 and ideas and plans were thrown back and forth. However, due to prior commitments and time conflicts, the line up was forced to change. But the core of the group maintained the idea and finally, in the fall 2004, the decision was made to make it happen. Scum was spawned.
Now you have the eccentric punk rocker Casey Chaos, you have Samoth and Faust from Emperor appearing together on an album for the first time in over 10 years, you have the denim stud rocker Happy Tom from Turbonegro and you have the fresh blood of Cosmocrator from Extreme Metal band MindGrinder.
The blueprint of this album was simple. Having some of the most respected pioneers of True Norwegian Black Metal, that genre was used for the basis, and blended that with a punk rock attitude, as well as various aggressive hooks.
This is an album of action and freedom. A unique alliance to address the state of affairs in music, and bring life to a dead and politically correct society.
Norwegian extreme metal band Mindgrinder, featuring ex-Source of Tide drummer/keyboardist Cosmocrator, will enter Akkerhaugen Lydstudio (Emperor, Zyklon, Windir) in Norway in November to record their sophomore album, tentatively due in early 2005 via Nocturnal Art Productions.
Mindgrinderissued their debut album, "MindTech," in April through Nocturnal Art Productions. The CD was recorded in December 2002 at Akkerhaugen Lydstudio and was originally slated for release through Sound Riot Records — a plan that was eventually abandoned due to the label's "financial problems," according to the group.
Norwegian black metallers Windir have posted this message on their official website:
The farewell concert at Rockefeller September 3rd, was a tremendous success. There were about 1200 people at the concert, and Windir, with Valfars brother Vegard Bakken as a special guest, performed a great show.
Windir would like to thank those who could make it to Oslo this special evening. Also the band would like to thank Mindgrinder, Finntroll and Enslaved for honouring Valfars memory with great live-performances!
Windir is now history. Those who have supported us, you know who you are, we thank you! To everyone else: RAIS TI HELVETE ADLE I HOP!!!!!
Hváll, Steingrim, Sture, Strom & Righ.
MindGrinder, who did support for thrash legends Testament when they visited Norway this
summer, are set to record their next album this fall and hit the road in Europe in January (a month or two later in the US).
ZYKLON's Samoth (guitar) and Trym (drums), both formerly of EMPEROR, recently participated in a WINDIR tribute along with Cosmocrator (MINDGRINDER) and Invictus (DISIPLIN). They recorded a "brutal" cover version of a WINDIR track in honor of late WINDIR singer Valfar. It will be released on a WINDIR tribute album this fall.
In other news, ZYKLON are now planning a new video for one of the tracks on "Aeon". There will also be an Inferno Festival DVD, which will include several ZYKLON live tracks. More information will follow soon.
ZYKLON have been confirmed for this year's Hole in the Sky Festival in Bergen, Norway. ZYKLON will be playing alongside such bands as VADER, KREATOR, DANZIG, SUSPERIA and 1349. In addition, Samoth will be participating in a special BATHORY all-star tribute band in honor of Quorthon. For more details, go to www.holeinthesky.no.
Norwegian black metallers WINDIR have announced plans to perform on final concert as a tribute to late frontman Terje "Valfar" Bakken, who tragically passed away in January. The concert, dubbed "Heidra Valfar", will take place on Friday, September 3 at the Rockefeller Arena in Oslo, Norway.
"The 3rd of September would have been Valfar's 26th birthday, and we would like to honour his memory by doing one last show," the band said in a statement. "Sture will be doing most of the WINDIR vocals. We are also glad to announce that 3 bands will be joining us this night. ENSLAVED, FINNTROLL and MINDGRINDER will be doing shows in honour of Valfar. The 3rd of September will also be the release date of the last WINDIR album, out on Tabu Recordings."
Tickets for the "Heidra Valfar" concert can be purchased at www.billettservice.no beginning on Saturday, March 27.
As previously reported, WINDIR's forthcoming CD will be a two-disc set. The first CD will include new material, unreleased material, tribute songs from other bands and live tracks, while the second CD will be a compilation of the music made by Valfar. It will include tracks from the first demo, "Sognariket", to the last album, "Likferd". All proceeds from this CD will go directly to Valfar's family.
