Former Gillan Guitarist Bernie Torme Passes Away
Bernie Torme, best known for his tenure with Gillan, has passed away one day before his 67th birthday after a bout with virulent double pneumonia. The Dublin born guitarist also had stints with Ozzy Osbourne and Atomic Rooster, as well as leading his own band and collaborating with Twisted Sister singer Dee Snider in Desperado. His family has released the following statement:
"Bernie Tormé passed away peacefully on the 17th March 2019, one day short of his 67th birthday, surrounded by his family. He had been on life support for the past four weeks at a London hospital following post-flu complications.
"Bernie will be remembered for dedicating his life to his music for five decades. He will be sorely missed."
Bernie's bandmate Mik Gaffney added, "On a personal note, I can only say how much I will miss him. I've known him since the late 80's. It's been a privilege to be his drummer for the past couple of years and his friend for much longer. It's a struggle to convey the emotion into words."
Bernie Torme Placed On Ventilator
Former Ozzy Osbourne and Gillan guitarist Bernie Torme has been placed on a ventilator, his family has announced. Speaking to Classic Rock magazine, the family said "Whilst Bernie remains in great hands in hospital, there has been no improvement in his condition and last night he was placed on a ventilator. Bernie remains in intensive care.
"Your continued thoughts, prayers and best wishes are most welcome."
Meanwhile, Torme and his estate are still in a dispute with Pledgemusic, who to date have not paid out on the £16,000 that's owed to him since December. The website say they're "working to find a solution."
Bernie Torme Rushed To Hospital
Veteran guitarist Bernie Torme has been rushed to hospital and placed in intensive care after being struck with pneumonia, his family has revealed. A statement from his estate reads as follows:
"Bernie Torme, the world-renowned guitarist, with stints with Ozzy Osbourne, Gillan and Desperado (featuring Dee Snider) was rushed into hospital earlier this week suffering from virulent pneumonia in both lungs.
"He is currently receiving the best possible treatment and is fighting back but remains in intensive care.
"We’ll keep you posted on any change in the situation but for now your thoughts and best wishes are much appreciated."
