Shadowkeep Signs with Melissa Records
British-American power unit ShadowKeep, who has already carved a name for themselves with two outstanding albums, "Corruption Within" and "A Chaos Theory," has signed with Dutch label Melissa Records.
Over the course of the last few years, the band formed by guitarists Chris Allen and Nikki Robson has had to deal with several setbacks. However, Allen and Robson have never erred in their determination to continue creating dynamic, technical powermetal with melodies that stick in the mind.
On their forthcoming third album, "The Hourglass Effect," the band takes on an apocalyptic concept piece based on lyrics by new vocalist Richie Wicks. For a taste of what's to come, check out the new tracks "ShadowKeep" and "Riot on Earth" at their MySpace.
"The Hourglass Effect" is set for a late 2008/early 2009 release by Melissa Records, based in The Netherlands and known for their dedication to traditional US-metal. Earlier releases by the label include "Mindfire" by Beyond Fallen, "Evolution Bound" by Ancient Creation and "Monuments" by Seventh Calling.
ShadowKeep has already been confirmed to play at the second installment of Mario's Metal Meeting in club 013, Tilburg, The Netherlands on November 9, 2008.
Vicious Rumors Announces New Guitarist
Veteran San Francisco Bay Area metallers VICIOUS RUMORS have announced the addition of guitarist Kiyoshi Morgan (photo) to the group's ranks. According to a press release "Kiyo is a longtime San Francisco Bay Area pro, playing lead guitar in several tribute bands, covering the styles of SLAYER, JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN and ALICE IN CHAINS. With the support of Gibson guitars and Sfarzo strings, Kiyo has found an identity in VICIOUS RUMORS as an old-school rock and metal guitarist with powerful anthem riffs and blistering-yet-musical leads!"
Comented guitarist Geoff Thorpe: "Kiyo just fit in and sounded great!! Our guitar styles blend really well... and this guy can shred!! Our new lineup is as strong as ever. I can't wait to unleash the new VR beast."
VICIOUS RUMORS recently enlisted singer Ronnie Stixx (SHADOWKEEP, DIVINE RUINS). "Ronnie showed up and blew the band away with his powerful voice," stated guitarist Geoff Thorpe. "The first night he sang with us it was like he was in the band for years. It was amazing." More...
Shadowkeep Frontman Laying Down Vocals For New CD
Vocalist Richie Wicks of the U.K. power metallers SHADOWKEEP is currently in the studio laying down tracks for the band's as-yet-untitled third album, tentatively due later in the year.
"The sessions have been phenomenal!" stated Richie, "Richard West [keyboard player with U.K.'s THRESHOLD and renowned vocal engineering specialist] has been a real force getting the best out of my voice, but it's been the music that's been the true inspiration. I thought I was happy with what I did on the TYGERS OF PAN TANG's 'Noises' (the band's swansong 2004 album 'Noises from the Cathouse') but this band has been a vocal revelation for me. I am hitting notes I never thought existed! The rest of the guys have been present most days pitching in ideas and generally laying on the support too which is cool! They're all arguing over who's gonna get the 'producer's' badge but it's clear that's going to be me (laughs)."
When asked how the new sound of SHADOWKEEP is coming along as the songs start to approach the final stages of production, Wicks replied, "Well, that would be telling! Suffice it to say that in my opinion it is simply awesome. Those involved in the recording so far have commented on major changes in the sound for the better. I don't want to comment on my own vocals, I'd rather leave that to others, but the songs are so strong and the concept theme is so hooky I can't imagine us having any trouble promoting this album. Our fans are going to love it cos we're writing it with them in mind, not us!"
So it is a concept album then? "Did I say that? Oops, well maybe it is and maybe it isn't." Any songtitles? "Well, you know about 'Ten Shades Of Black' already cos we have a version on the ProgPower 2006 CD, but the rest will be released before the end of the month."
The band hope to complete all the vocals and harmonies by Easter. More information willl be made available soon.
Shadowkeep Working On New Album
U.K. power metallers SHADOWKEEP have now completed all the rhythm parts for the new album, the title of which is still under wraps. Drummer Scott Higham and bassist Stony Grantham entered Thin Ice Studios just before Christmas to lay down all their parts and the results have been "stunning," according to a press release. Guitarists Chris Allen and Nicki Robson will continue the recording process in February when they go in to track their parts before new singer Richie Wicks (ex-ANGEL WITCH, TYGERS OF PAN TANG) puts the finishing touches on the effort at the end of that month. The band hope to have the album completed and ready to promote by late April and certainly in time for their planned festival appearances this summer. As a taster, registered members of their web site, shadowkeepmetal.net, can download the first sample of new track "Ten Shades of Black", which is the first full and completed recording made by the new lineup. Reaction by the band's fans have been "wild and full of praise," and as promised, the sound — although maintaining the trademark SHADOWKEEP composition expertise — also has a new tighter, harder more darker edge to it.
