COSMOSQUAD has just released its fourth album, "Acid Test". It marks the group's first studio effort since 2001's highly regarded "Squadrophenia" which firmly established the trio as one of the premier progressive instrumental acts on the scene. Co-produced by Kollman and Gaalaas at the drummer's Crumb West Studios in Simi Valley, CA, "Acid Test" is the first COSMOSQUAD effort without co-founding member, Barry Sparks, whose bass duties have been filled by a trio of capable, well credentialed players in Paul Shihadeh (SCOTT KINSEY), Kevin Chown (UNCLE CRACKER, EDWIN DARE), and the group's new full-time addition, Christopher Maloney (DWEEZIL ZAPPA, HARDLINE).

KSE Kick Off Tour w/ Pat Lachman Filling In
Killswitch Engage kicked off their headlining slot on the inaugural No Fear Music Tour last night to a sold out crowd at Philadelphia's Electric Factory. The band has with them Pat Lachman, known as the voice of Damageplan as well as for his guitar work with Halford and Diesel Machine, filling in for injured guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz. Dutkiewicz underwent emergency back surgery last month during Killswitch Engage's European leg and will spend the next few months recuperating. He plans to rejoin his bandmates later this spring.
In recent Killswitch Engage news, current single "My Curse" from the album As Daylight Dies hit #15 in the Active Rock format this week, and the video recently peaked at #1 on MTV2. The band, including Dutkiewicz, will be shooting a video for the follow up single, "The Arms of Sorrow," in March.

SOiL Finish Recording New Album
Chicago's SOIL have finished recording their new album at Bomb Shelter studios in Los Angeles, California with producer Ulrich Wild (STATIC-X, TAPROOT) for a tentative February 2006 release via DRT Entertainment. The group's guitarist, Shaun Glass, has issued the following update on the album's recording process:
"Well, all tracking is 100 percent done, meaning we have recorded all 12 songs and are extremely happy with the ones we picked to make this a true SOIL album. As usual, it will show all our sides — from the hardest shit we have ever written to the most melodic and intense stuff. Musically, Adam [Zadel, guitar] has some ass-shredding leads that were never present on any of our previous efforts and Mr. AJ [Cavalier] has done a great job adding a new dimension of vocals, from the heavy to the melodic — he does it all.
"People, this is the next level for SOIL. Trust me when I say this is our best album.
"As I sit here typing, Ulrich has begun the mixing of our new creation. Also we are set up in another location to begin jamming some shit. We are doing three shows back in Chicago with our metal bros in DISTURBED!"
SOIL's follow-up to last year's "Redefine" will be the group's first CD to feature singer Cavalier, who previously fronted the California-based DIESEL MACHINE (also featuring ex-DAMAGEPLAN frontman Patrick Lachman on guitar). The band's original vocalist, Ryan McCombs, has since joined the Texas act DROWNING POOL.
Soil Finds New Vocalist
Soil have a new vocalist. A.J. Cavalier, formerly of New York band Diesel Machine, replaces the recently departed Ryan McComb. Cavalier will start work on an album with Soil very shortly.
