Randy Coven Passes Away At 54

Bassist Randy Coven, who has worked with Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Ark, Holy Mother and Vitalij Kuprij, passed away on Tuesday, May 20th. A statement released by the Coven family reads:

"It is with deepest and great sorrow, We must inform you our beloved Randy passed away on Tuesday. Services will be held at Mt Ararat cemetery on Thursday at 1.15pm."

Coven grew up in Long Island, New York around the same period as Vai and Joe Satriani. He later roomed with Vai at Berklee College of Music, before forming the band Morning Thunder. In addition to his work on albums such as Ark's "Burn the Sun" (2001), MCM's "Ritual Factory" (2004), Vitalij Kuprij's "Revenge" (2005) and "Glacial Inferno" (2007) and appearing on Yngwie Malmsteen's "Live in Korea" in 2009, Coven released three solo albums, the latest of which was "Witch Way" in 2002.

Jorn Lande (ex-MasterPlan), who worked with Coven in Ark, posted the following about Coven on his official Facebook page: "My old friend Randy Coven passed away on 20th of May. He was only 54! Unfortunately, I didn't get to hook up with Randy after we worked together some years ago, we were both keeping busy and time just flew by. I'm proud to have known and worked with Randy. He was such a funny and talented man, and his great sense of humor gave us many good laughs. His efforts on the Ark album "Burn the sun" speaks for itself. John, Mats, Tore, Randy and myself really created some magic together. My thoughts go to his family and friends. RIP"
