This will be a unique event for PAINMUSEUM: When drummer Bobby Jarzombek (ICED EARTH, HALFORD) was unable to cancel prior engagements for this particular performance, Paul Bostaph (TESTAMENT, ex-SLAYER, SYSTEMATIC, FORBIDDEN) was called upon to fill in for this one night only. Turmoil Prepare To Enter Studio
Turmoil will be entering the studio in mid-March to record new material for their upcoming retrospective release. Tracking had been slated for January, but scheduling conflicts have delayed plans, so recording will now take place on March 18, 19, and 20 at Water Studios with Ted Young at the helm. The group was originally going to record three songs, but will now only record two due to time constraints. Paul Romano (Mastodon, Nasum) will be handling the artwork, and the release should hit stores in early-Summer. As for the new material, the group states: "We're very excited at the direction of the new material. We can't wait to get into the studio to record and think Turmoil fans will be blown away." Meanwhile, the group's official reunion show will take place in April or May. Two specific venues in Philadelphia are being looked at, and a decision should be made within the next week couple of weeks. In related news, Turmoil have enlisted the management services of Worldwidenoize Management and are currently mulling over a few touring possibilities.
The Deadly Sign w/ Pluto Records, Post MP3s
Pluto Records have officially signed The Deadly. The Philadelphia band, featuring John Hodges and John Pushnik of Turmoil, has previously released an EP with Hawthorne Street Records. They recently finished their new full-length, "The Wolves Are Here Again," which will hit streets on March 29th. Check out two new (unmastered) tracks here.
Turmoil Announce New Bassist
Turmoil has announced the addition of a new bassist, as they prepare for their first shows in four years. The group has added John Gardner to their lineup. Gardner also does time with Turmoil vocalist Jon Gula in The Kiss Of Death, and has also played with Sever The Fallen and Outcome.
Turmoil To Record In January
Turmoil will be entering the studio in mid-January to record three tracks for their upcoming retrospective release. Recording will take place at Water Studios in Hoboken, NJ with producer Ted Young (Lamb Of God, Static Lullaby) at the helm. Tentatively titled "Staring Back," the double-disc release will hit stores in Spring 2005 through Abacus Recordings.
Turmoil Reform, Plan European Festival Dates
Philadelphia's hardcore legends Turmoil have announced their decision to reform after nearly five years apart. The following is an official statement on the reunion, as posted at Turmoil.com:
"As you may have already heard, Abacus/Century Media Records will be releasing a two-CD, complete discography in early 2005. The discography will also include a couple new songs that we are currently working on. We are planning on going into the studio in November/December to record these new tracks and are currently looking for the right producer and studio to harness the new Turmoil sound.
"Some of you may be wondering why this is happening now, after almost 5 years. There are a few reasons. Ray Harkins from Abacus/Century Media Records contacted us a few months ago with the initial idea to release a complete discography due to the fact that Century Media wasn't planning on repressing any of the old Turmoil catalog. Ray being the Turmoil super fan that he is, did not want to see that happen and neither did we. The four of us (Jon Gula, Jon Hodges, Jeff Hydro, & Jon Pushnik) all agreed that this was a good idea. Plus, over the past few years, we have all remained friends and shared some stages together with our new bands, THE KISS OF DEATH and THE DEADLY. We all agreed that this would be the perfect opportunity for us to get together again and maybe work on some new Turmoil songs. There are also some questions about the 'Turmoil is dead' comments that were written on the website in 2000, shortly after the Hellfest fiasco. We had gone through many problems in a short amount of time (members leaving the band, tour cancellations, label issues, etc.) and everyone was pretty much fed up with everything, including each other. Not to mention only getting to play 3 songs at 1 a.m. at our 'final show', you get the picture? Those words were written out of frustration. So you can take it or leave it, but this is going to happen.
"For those of you who are awaiting this release, believe us, you will not be disappointed.
"We would like to thank everyone that has supported us throughout the years and continues to support us. As we get more info we will post it right here at Turmoil.com, so check back frequently for updates. We have already been contacted by Avocado Booking in Europe about doing a few festivals at the end of December 2004. These dates are tentative, but if everything goes according to plan, the shows will be: December 29 - Belgium (Good Life Festival), December 30 - Holland (Arnhem Goudvishal), & December 31 - Munich, Germany (Backstage Festival). We're also hoping to add a few dates on to these, so if anyone is interested, please contact Avocado Booking. Stay tuned for more."
Belgium's Good Life / Eye Spy Fest
Good Life Recordings and Eye Spy Records will be putting on a hardcore festival on December 29th at the Magdalenazaal (MA/Z) in Brugge, Belgium. Tickets will be 10 euro presale and 12 euro at the door. Here's the lineup:
Caliban
Turmoil
Maroon
Death Before Disco
SFP
The Wage Of Sin
Abstinence
Turmoil Prepare To Record, Tour
The upcoming Turmoil discography will be hitting stores in early-2005 through Abacus Recordings/Century Media Records. The release will include some new material that the group is currently working on. The band will enter the studio in November/December to record the new tracks, though a producer and studio haven't yet been announced. To address questions regarding their quasi-reformation, the group has issued the following statement:
"Some of you may be wondering why this is happening now, after almost 5 years. There are a few reasons. Ray Harkins from Abacus/Century Media Records contacted us a few months ago with the initial idea to release a complete discography due to the fact that Century Media wasn't planning on repressing any of the old Turmoil catalog. Abacus To Release Turmoil Discography
It's now official that Turmoil plan to release a discography through Abacus Recordings. Turmoil was still technically under contract with Century Media Records at the time of their breakup, so it should come as no suprise that Century Media imprint Abacus will be releasing the effort. The retrospective, tentatively entitled "Staring Back," will consist of two CDs containing all of the band's recordings in addition to three unreleased songs that the band will record later this year. Look for the release to surface in early-2005.
