In Search Of...The Best Underground Metal Songs
The vast, expansive world of underground metal can leave even the most persistent headbanger’s music collection lacking of many of the industry’s finest songs. With the depths of MySpace and the many other music sites which lend themselves to the exploration of one’s musical tastes, it can be a bit overwhelming trying to dig up the finest metal gems. Moreover, some metal fans so deeply embed themselves in one sub-genre that they might be missing some truly great stuff. This brief guide is intended to give you, the metalhead, a reference to some of those songs that “make” an album, that rattle around in your head for hours, and that warrant a deeper exploration of a band’s entire body of work. Furthermore, newer metalheads will find a few older songs from current big-name artists that are worthy of tracking down. More...
Norma Jean Drummer Quitting After Tour
Following the band's upcoming fall tour, Norma Jean drummer Daniel Davison will be leaving the band. Davison has issued this explanation:
"After much time, prayer, council, and consideration, I have come to an important personal decision. My decision is that as of November 8th, 2007 I will no longer be a part of Norma Jean.
"As many of you know, Norma Jean is considered a 'Christian band,' and it is in fact made up of 5 guys who are all Christians. This is something that is a huge part of my life, and something that I take very seriously. Recently I have come to the point in my life where I no longer see Norma Jean as a ministry, and for me to continue in the band, saying that it is, would in my opinion, be wrong. I am not leaving the band on bad terms with any of the guys, but there are differences between us, both personal and spiritual, that I felt were too great for me continue on with, or ignore any longer.
"We as a band have in some ways worked towards making things right in the areas where we differed...but for me, the feelings did not change, and we continued to grow apart. So after giving these things much time and thought, I have come to the place where I know that it is right for me to be finished. Making the choice to step away from something that I have been a part of for 10 years, has not been the easiest of tasks. But do know that this is not a hasty decision by any means. I have total Peace and confidence in my choice.
"The band will continue without me. This winter the guys will begin writing for a new record. And I wish the best for them.
"Lastly, I would like to thank every one of you, who over the years have supported me and this band. We could not have done anything without you. You all really mean so much to me. I hope to see as many of you as possible on my last tour, and thank you face to face for supporting our band, and for being a part of what we have been doing for all of these years. I will never forget the times that we all have shared. I am going to miss Norma Jean dearly, but I know that this is a step that I have to take."

Vans Warped Tour 2007 Line Up and Tour Dates
When an event has been around for 13 years, it's usually time to shake things up. And while Ozzfest chose to do that by going free, the Vans Warped tour opted to piece together one of its most diverse rosters to date. While not a metal tour, it does feature a hand full of heavier metalcore and screamo bands, most notably Norma Jean, As I Lay Dying, Funeral For A Friend, Haste The Day, Parkway Drive, and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster.
The tour, which will kick off June 28 at Chula Vista, California's Coors Amphitheater, is currently slated to play 45 shows through an August 25 date in Los Angeles with a lineup that includes Coheed and Cambria, Bad Religion, New Found Glory, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Cute Is What We Aim For, Bayside and Canadian rapper K-os.
Among the other groups that will be on the road with Warped all summer are Amber Pacific, Circa Survive, Tiger Army, Escape the Fate, Hot Rod Circuit, Big D and the Kids Table, Paramore, Gallows, the Matches, the Fabulous Rudies, Meg and Dia, All Time Low, Bleed the Dream, the Unseen, Spill Canvas, Evaline, Bless the Fall, Boys Like Girls, My American Heart, Vincent Black Shadow, Throw the Fight and Pepper.
Tour founder Kevin Lyman said he had plenty of options to choose from when putting together the roster. "We received over 4,000 submissions, so in booking the tour this year I felt that a diverse lineup was in order," he said in a press release announcing the dates. "The tour has always been a place to explore and discover new music. This year's lineup has old school, emo, punk, screamo, hip-hop, more ska than you have seen in a long time and everything in between. If you're open-minded, this will be a great show."
Members of the online Warped community will get their annual shot at Internet presale tickets starting April 1, where they'll be offered a ticket and a copy of the Warped Tour double-disc compilation for $19.99.
Among the other acts scheduled to play select dates are: A Static Lullaby, the Actual, Agent Orange, Alesana, Alkaline Trio, the Almost, Anberlin, As Cities Burn, As I Lay Dying, the Automatic, Biffy Clyro, the Briefs, the Briggs, Buck O Nine, Cinematic Sunrise, the Confession, the Dear and Departed, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Envy on the Coast, the Fall of Troy, Family Force 5, Fishbone, Flogging Molly, the Fold, Funeral for a Friend, the Graduate, Haste the Day, Hawthorne Heights, Human Abstract, I Am Ghost, Madina Lake, Mayday Parade, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, New Year's Day, Norma Jean, Parkway Drive, Pennywise, Pistolita, Play Radio Play, POS, Poison the Well, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Set Your Goals, So They Say, the Starting Line, Straylight Run, Supernova, the Toasters, Underoath, the Used, Valencia, The Vandals and Yellowcard.

FBTMOF Singer Seriously Injured By Bass Guitar
Fear Before The March Of Flames singer David Marion was injured during the group's San Diego show last Friday. Bandmate Adam Fisher has issued the following account of Marion's injury:
"During our second song david was struck in the face with mike's bass mid swing. Although that seems like something that is quite normal and not too rare the results were actually quite catastrophic. David was knocked out for longer than previous times this has happened. When he awoke he was spitting blood out in large amounts. We cleaned him up only to find that a hole had been ripped in his cheek. It basically looks as though he was pierced with a serrated knitting needle. In 100% honesty it was a pretty brutal sight. Somehow he managed to get up and finish the set but by the end the whole right side of his face was swolen to the point where he could barely open his right eye. He was taken to the hospital immediately. He was treated and received a catscan and was prescribed some pretty heavy antibiotics and heavy painkillers. It turns out because of the hole, air had gotten into his skin and puffed him out all the way from his collarbone up to above his eye socket. It's early now and david has just woken up but his exact quote was "I feel like 200 pounds of bird shit." It hurts for him to swallow and needless to say hes pretty bummed out. He is unsure of whether he will be able to play tonight. We as a band hate cancelling shows more than anything and david is the last to stand down because of pain, but if it hurts him bad enough to where he doesn't think he can do it his safety comes first. We'll try and keep you updated and we apologize in advance if we cannot play tonight. Again, we will only not play if it is 100% detrimental to david's health. Remember, it is a hole in his face that you could fit a small rodent through. It's not a scratch. Thank you for understanding and enjoy the rest of the bands!"
The band will reportedly continue on The Radio Rebellion Tour with Norma Jean and Between The Buried and Me, as planned. However, there will be vocal assistance from friends and fans for the next few weeks of the tour.

Radio Rebellion 2006 Tour Off To A Flying Start
The first-ever Radio Rebellion Tour 2006 presented by Hurley, Smartpunk.com, Nike 6.0, Fuel TV, and Hot Topic is off with a bang as three of the first four shows (Nashville, Detroit and Toronto) have sold out, with a third (Chicago) nearly selling out.
"We are four shows deep into the Radio Rebellion Tour and we are really stoked about how it's going so far," explains Cory Brandan lead singer of NORMA JEAN. "The shows have been amazing, way beyond our expectations. All the bands have tons of energy and it is definitely bleeding into the crowd. It seems like everyone is having fun and we can't ask for more than that...it's why we do what we do. Seeing the whole tour production come together is really satisfying as well. This is definitely blown way out, over the top. We are doing more on stage than ever--we figure if people are gonna pay to see us play our songs on stage, then we might as well make it fun for them."

Ozzfest 2006 Comes To Bristow, Virginia
Another year, another Ozzfest. After a star-studded lineup for its ten year anniversary last year, Ozzfest was faced with the challenge of putting together yet another great lineup for its eleventh year. When I went to Bristow, VA on Sunday, August 6, 2006, I was wondering just how good a lineup they managed to scrape together. I knew the bands that were playing, but the real question remained whether the main stage bands could hold their own with primarily younger, nu-metal bands on it and Ozzy closing out the second stage.
The temperatures had fortunately dropped from the 105F degree humid days of only a few days earlier, but the sky was crystal clear for most of the day and the intense sun beating down on you in the 90F degree temperatures was still enough to take a lot out of you and require constant re-hydration.
