Still Remains Sign With Roadrunner Records

Grand Rapids, MI's Still Remains have inked a deal with Roadrunner Records.

The group, whose sound is being described as a mixture of "heart-crushing howls" and "heartfelt melodies amidst a swirl of keyboards" while "guitars chug brutally and then harmonize like Iron Maiden on overdrive," came to Roadrunner's attention through A&R man Mike Gitter (Killswitch Engage, Cradle of Filth). "I've never heard a band that smashes together Swedish metal, American metalcore and Saddle Creek-ish indie-rock all at once," said Gitter in a statement. "Then they push it all emotionally and over the edge! Guaranteed, this is the beginning of something great for years to come."

Still Remains will be hitting the studio this fall for their Roadrunner debut, slated for release in 2005. An MP3 download of the track "I Can Revive Him With My Own Hands," taken from the band's "If Love Was Born To Die" EP, is available at this location.

Christian Metalcore Bands Rock For Salvation

David Lindquist of IndyStar.com reports:

"On a recent Saturday night at the Emerson Theater, teenagers and twenty-somethings waited outside the door and around the corner of 10th Street and Bosart Avenue more than an hour before show time.

They sported black shirts, piercings and tattoos — the acknowledged wardrobe and accessories for fans of 'metalcore,' a musical style that bridges the gap between hardcore punk and heavy metal.

They were there to see four bands known for their messages of Christian salvation.

The sounds are brutal, and the sermons are subtle. A Christian metalcore concert has little in common with a tent revival or Gaither family 'Homecoming.' Here, the spirit can be taken or left alone.

'It's music,' says Mark LaFay, the show's promoter and manager of two bands on the bill — Carmel-based Hast the Day and Michigan's Still Remains. 'A lot of kids who are into this music don't really care where the band is coming from. They like to go to shows because they're fun and they want to mosh.'"
